Back on the Mill

Well, after some wonderfully warmish, clear December weather to kick off the month, this week brought cold and ice and snow. I know I shouldn’t complain because it is December in Cleveland, but I hate when the weather interferes with my running plans πŸ™‚ That said, I had a good week, thanks to my treadmill, Christmas movies and Netflix. The kiddos also started their holiday break, which meant I was even able to sleep in one day because I didn’t have to get the kiddos up early!

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 3.4 treadmill miles – I usually like to get in a longer run on Sunday, but I got on the treadmill and at 3 miles B texted me to let me know he was leaving to go to the Browns game in 30 minutes, a few hours earlier than I had thought. So I quickly hopped off so that I could shower and watch the kids while he got ready. Then, I had all day with the kiddos! We stayed inside because it was cold and rainy, but made do with some holiday movies and baking. And, the Browns won!

Monday: 5.02 miles and core work – After a rainy and cold Sunday, I woke up to a drizzly Monday morning. I knew we were supposed to get some more rain and snow later in the day, so I put on a hat and ran in the drizzle.

Tuesday: 7.13 treadmill miles and core work –Β  I struggled to get out of bed, but made it happen and got in 5 miles on the treadmill before everyone was out the door. At lunchtime, I felt like I needed a little activity, but it was too icy to get outside for a walk like I would have done a week earlier. So, I opted for another short treadmill run, bringing the total to 7.13 for the day.

Wednesday: 7.1 treadmill miles and a little longer core work – I had some extra time in the morning, and was glad to use it on a longer treadmill run (with some walking) and longer core workout.

Thursday:Β  5.2 treadmill miles and core work – I was home with the big kids, and got in a treadmill run while they had some screen time.

Friday: 5.02 miles OUTSIDE and 2.6 mile walk – I got in an early run before the big kids woke up and B left the house – yay for no treadmill! The streets were finally ice free. Then, the kids and I got outside for a walk to and from the bakery and library – it was great to get outside with them!

Saturday: 4.25 treadmill – On Saturdays, I usually get to run during the daylight, but I woke up to rain and wanted to get in an early run while the kids were home so I hopped on the treadmill for a quick, short run before a busy day that entailed a double piano lesson, cookie drop offs to friends and grocery shopping for the holidays!

And my only photo is of cookies because treadmill pics are boring and we did a lot of baking the past few weeks. There’s more not pictured!

Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate. Who can believe that next week my weekly run down will also be a year-end recap?!

Questions for you:

  • Are you doing anything to celebrate tonight?
  • If you celebrate Christmas, did you grow up opening gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Way to fit in so many miles on a busy holiday week. Glad to got to get outside for a few of them! Happy and Merry to you and your family this week. Enjoy!

  2. I love my tread, but still think 7 miles is a long time to spend on it β€” way to go!

Your cookies look delicious. I think the jam thumbprints and kiss cookies would pair well!

  3. Good for you. I can’t imagine getting all those miles done on a TM.

    Not celebrating here.

I hope to watch some Netflix on the stationary bike this week.

  4. Christmas Day! We always opened gifts on Christmas Day (and we still do it like that.)
I’m glad you had Christmas movies to keep you occupied while on the treadmill- those miles can feel soooo long.
I LOVE your cookies photo! And there’s even more? You did do a lot of baking this week! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  5. I think all those treadmill miles should count double πŸ˜‰ Your cookies and sweets look so yummy! I’m hosting dinner tonight (but my sister is making most of the food), and I’m hosting tomorrow as well (and doing most of the food for that). I love having family together, though, and I have the most space, so hosting is more fun than work for me πŸ˜‰ Merry Christmas!

  6. That’s amazing that you had cold and ice, while we’ve been practically basking in warmth, lol. I mean, it’s all relative, but 49 degrees (today) feels pretty darned good on Christmas Eve. Kudos to you for all those TM miles!

Back in the day, we had Christmas Eve with my mom’s side of the family and on Christmas Day with my dad’s. We opened gifts Christmas morning, but used to beg our parents to let us open at least one on Christmas Eve. Now with the kids all grown, it’s a low key Christmas Eve–tonight will be with my youngest and his GF. Tomorrow we are hosting everyone–we’ll have about 13 people here. Should be fun!

    Merry Christmas!!

  7. Nice job on getting those miles in, especially with so many being on the treadmill.

Both my husbands and my families opened gifts on Christmas morning so we carried that tradition on with our family. Merry Christmas!

  8. Happy Christmas! We always opened one present on Christmas Eve and it was always pajamas πŸ™‚ And then we opened the rest Christmas Day. My husband and I have continued to do the same, even though we don’t have kids.

  9. What a wonderful week! Growing up, nothing went out until I went to bed on Christmas Eve so opening one gift was not an option. My mom claims they didn’t even decorate the tree until then, but I don’t remember that. So many cookies! I only made three kinds this year. We weren’t doing a lot of entertaining this year so there was no need.
