Happy Easter to those who celebrate! And Happy Spring break to us!
In addition to my weekly update, this post serves as my (mostly) March in review post. I can’t believe that April 1 is TOMORROW.
March was an okay month for me.
Total mileage: 112.58 miles – ish (We’ll see if I get in a run today with everything going on)
The good – Overcoming/healing from my hip issues and getting back into running. I’m still not 100% – I feel sore if I run too many days in a row or too long, but it’s not pain or debilitating like before. And I successfully started cross-training, which includes some minor lifting, core workouts, rowing machine, walking and indoor cycling.
The bad – My running mileage was low (For me), as I’m trying to incorporate more xtraining and less running. Also, I’m still not feeling 100%, which is discouraging less than 2 months from my half marathon. That said, with March ending, perhaps spring is finally here and I can stop running in snow, etc.? Who am I kidding – I just jinxed it!
Sunday: 7 miles running outside! Plus some planking, stretching and ~2.5 miles walking. I had a lot of time on my feet Sunday, which felt good, especially as the snow we’d had Friday into Saturday had started melting and the sun was shining. It was still cold out – 20s during my run and low 40s during my walk – but the blue skies and sunshine made all the difference. I was glad to have gotten in a long (For me) run on the weekend – it doesn’t happen often!

I also got in a walk during naptime, and then Sunday after dinner, we also got in a family walk – it was finally nice outside AND light still, to get in a walk with the kiddos.

Monday: cross training! Rower, cycling, core and arm workout and ~2 miles walk later in the day. After all my feet/legs movement on Sunday, I decided to take the day off and focus on cross training on Monday. I had to convince myself that it was a good idea — “old me” would’ve run without a problem or issue. But I’m really trying to listen to my body and NOT get re-injured right now, especially when I have a half marathon I’d like to run in May!
Tuesday: 5.03 miles running, 5 minutes cool down on the bike, strength and core, 1 mile walking. I miraculously woke up to 50 degree weather, but it was WINDY! We had a wind advisory in effect until the afternoon, and I was a little nervous going out for a run. I didn’t want to blow away! Or more likely, have a tree branch or debris fall and hit me. Luckily, it was okay and I got home in time to get in a core workout, some arms, and a short cooldown on the bike. I also got in a mileish walk at lunchtime.
Wednesday: 8.05 miles running. I snoozed just a little too long to get in anything besides a run, but not quite long enough to postpone a workout. I was pleased to still have just enough time to get in a long run for the week – 8 miles. I felt okay during the run – mentally, I struggled starting around mile 4 when I realized I hadn’t run far enough away from home and only had 2 miles to get home, so I had to do some extra laps around a few blocks so I wouldn’t get home 2 miles early. My leg was a little tender, but nothing painful.
Thursday: 3.57 miles running and 15 minutes on the bike, plus core workout and 2 mile walk. I needed to rest my legs a little – my hip was a little sore after my longer Wednesday run, but I wanted to get it moving to see how it felt. Also, I know I’ll have plenty of non-running days next week when we are on vacation, so wanted to keep up the running this week. It was another COLD morning in comparison to earlier in the week, it was only 30 when I went outside for a run. At lunchtime it was almost 50 degrees, and I got in a short walk.
Friday: 2.25 mile run outside, 7 minutes on the bike and 21 minutes on the rower plus core workout. I slept a little late again, so I didn’t get in a full workout, but was glad to get outside even though it was COLD!
Saturday: treadmill 5K, 45 minutes on the bike and core and kettlebell workout, 5K walk later. FW had an early baseball tryout, so while B took him there I got on the treadmill, bike and kettlebells with the little kids played and watched some TV. Again, I am SO grateful to have an indoor gym in my house so for days that I want to workout but have to be around the kids, I can do it. It doesn’t always happen – GM was making it especially difficult because he wanted to play baseball in the house and not watch TV, but when I can make it happen it feels even better. At naptime later, while the house slept, I got in a walk outside — it was nice to get in 3 miles outside.
Questions for you:
- Do you have Easter plans if you celebrate? We will start our day with an Easter egg hunt, then mass, then brunch with B’s family, then we fly out for Spring break!
- What’s a “good” month in terms of mileage numbers for you?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
