Wacky Weather Week

Well, that was a wacky weather week. We had highs in the 50s on Monday (Yay!), lows in the teens (Tuesday), snow, rain, ice and more this week. So, I had a combination of outdoor runs (few), treadmill runs (more) and some outdoor walks (yay again!).

The week ALSO included the CLEVELAND MARATHON KICKOFF RUN! It was so great to run IN PERSON with people to celebrate the kickoff of marathon training season! I’m only running the half, but it was great to get in a few miles with other local runners outside on a weekend. Did that mean I missed basketball, soccer and ice skating for my kids on Saturday morning? I did, but I’m so lucky to have B and other parents who were able to step in and help out so I could make the event.

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 7 outdoor miles –  I slept in for the first time in more than a week and it was glorious! The only issue with sleeping in until 7:30 was that I didn’t end up having time for more than a 7 mile run before it was time to head to FW’s 2 futsal games that were 35 minutes away. It was “feels like” 20 degrees and chilly out and some streets were icy, but it was so nice to do a run outside.

Monday: 5 mile treadmill run, chest and tri workout, shoulder and leg workout, 8 minute core workout, 2.27 miles walking  – It snowed and rained Sunday afternoon, so the ice and slippery roads were back by Monday morning. It was dark out, so I didn’t want to try running on the streets and not being able to see where the icy patches were. So, I got in some running on the treadmill after a double weight workout.  Later I got in some walking – including walking outside! It was sunny and in the upper 40s on my walk, which felt amazing!  You can see the lake is thawing!

Tuesday: 6.3 OUTDOOR miles run, 15 minutes on the bike, started back and bicep workout –Thanks to getting in my weight workout on Monday, I was able to go outside and get in a run right away, and get in a longer run! I decided to aim for a 10K, and after I finished had time for a short cooldown on the bike. That night, I had 15 minutes to spare and decided to start my next day’s weights – backs/bis!

Wednesday: 4 mile treadmill run, 1.25 mile treadmill walk with incline, finished back/bis workout, started leg workout, core workout, 2.15 mile outdoor walk – I finished my back/bicep workout, started my leg workout, and then hopped on the treadmill for 4 slow miles. My legs were tired after doing the start of my leg workout, but I got it done, along with a 1.25 mile walk on the treadmill at 4 incline. I never walk with an incline and it wasn’t easy! I also got in a walk at lunch. It was cold but the sidewalks were almost all clear and the ice was melting on the lake (see pic below).

Thursday: Leg workout, core workout, 3.6 mi run, 2.25 treadmill walk at lunch, I somehow didn’t get out of bed until 40 minutes after my alarm went off- yikes! So I didn’t have as much time to work out. I decided to still get in a good leg and core workout, and shorter cardio day. My legs were sore from my lunges, kettlebells, squats, etc. so the 3.6 miles on the treadmill weren’t easy. I also used my massager to try to loosen up my quads. I love the tool and it’s great for sore muscles.  Lunchtime I decided to get in a treadmill walk while I did a little bit of work. I love being able to walk and work at the same time, and it was nice to get some movement in while it was still cold and icy out.

Friday: 4 mile treadmill run and 1.25 treadmill walk (on incline), core workout, 2.15 lunch walk – I slept in and decided to stay on the treadmill this morning. I got in 4 miles and then a core workout – nothing else was on my agenda for weight training! I also got in a 1.25 mile walk on an incline before my day started. Then, at lunchtime I braved the cold and went for a walk with B! We got in a walk around the lake – but no photos this time. My hands were too cold to take off my mittens!

Saturday: 5.06 mile run, Cleveland Marathon Kickoff Run! – I escaped the usual Saturday craziness and got to attend the Cleveland Marathon Kickoff Run! Every year in winter the Marathon hosts a kickoff run to kick off training season. This Saturday to attend I missed basketball, soccer, and ice skating — thanks to B, my sister-in-law AND one of FW’s teammate’s parents for their help! It took a village but I was able to join the festivities and get in a 5 mile (fast for me) run to start my day. I’m glad we got out there to run – because by mid-afternoon it started snowing and sleeting again and the streets and sidewalks were once again a slippery mess.

Total:  35.02 miles running, some walking and weight training.

  • When was the last time you ran with a group?
  • Are your weekends more relaxing or busy?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. It’s great that you were able to make it work so you could join in on the fun at the group run! I bet you’re ready to get the snowy/icy weather behind you. I know I am!

  2. How nice with the kick-off run! I’m happy for you that you were able to join in. It sounds like a lot of fun! I hope you get some warmer weather, it sounds very miserable there.

  3. wow, your weather has been wicked! You’re doing great accommodating the outdoor conditions & getting in great mileage nonetheless. The group run looks so fun!

  4. Sounds like a great week! I never mentioned it, but my husband stubbed his toe in December and couldn’t run for a while because it was broken. He’s just now getting back into it and I use you as an example for him- it’s like your broken toe never happened! AND you have an amazing strength routine going now.

  5. What a fun week! I love that you had such great workouts and then got to end up with that group run!

I haven’t run with a group in a while. I usually go for one running buddy, but it sounds fun to go with many people!
