March, What?!

Does anyone else feel like January was the longest month in the world, and February came and left in the blink of an eye? I know February is a few days shorter, but it still feels like it was significantly shorter than January was. Because how is it already March?

In terms of running, February wasn’t too bad a month. Did I get in many outdoor runs? Nope. Was the weather too cold and too icy and too snowy to get outside most mornings? Yup. BUT we moved the treadmill to the basement along with the other workout equipment and it has been working well for helping me get in my runs inside without waking up the entire family. So February included:

  • 146.26 miles (mostly on my treadmill)
  • 4 weeks of weight training
  • Some walking – but mostly indoors

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 10 treadmill miles, chest and tri workout, 1.4 mile treadmill walk, 1 mile outdoor walk, some shoveling – I set my alarm for 5 a.m. to get in a long run before we had plans. BUT I did it! 10 treadmill miles. Then our plans fell through so I also had time to get in a treadmill walk and chest/tri workout.

FW and I spent some time shoveling a neighbor’s driveway before they came back into town (sidenote- they arrived back in town after the snow all melted so our work may have been for nothing), which was a workout!

Later in the day we didn’t have any sports (!) so after doing our shopping for the week, I made some homemade graham crackers for the kids to take to school for snacks during the week. They came out good!

Monday: Shoulder and leg workout, core workout, 3.51 miles on the treadmill – I got in my free weights and core, and suddenly was almost out of time. I guess I snoozed too much? I had time for a short run and walk to cool down before it was time for my day in the office.

Tuesday: 4.5 treadmill mile walk/run, back and bicep workout, start of leg workout, core workout – I finished my back and bicep workout, got in a core workout and started my leg workout. Then I had time to get in a 3.1 mile run, plus walking on an incline to get to 4 miles.

Wednesday: 5×400 at 7.1 mph pace for 4 miles total, finished leg workout, core workout, 2 mile treadmill walk, 1.5 mi outdoor walk – The 50 degrees and rain on Tuesday finally melted almost all our snow! I thought about going for a run outside but after peeking out saw it was actually full of icy patches. So, I stayed indoors, finished my leg workout, and then really wasn’t feeling running. I decided to shake things up and look to see where I should be if I do a 12 week half marathon training program – it turns out the program would have started THIS week and Wednesday’s workout is 5×400 at 5K pace! I knew that would be a way to get excited for the treadmill so I did that, with my 5K pace being 7-7.1 for most of the sprints. I also got in some treadmill walking while working later in the day. I got in a 1.5 outside walk later in the day and boy was it icy! Not running outside had been a good choice (for me) that morning.

Loved the views at my walk – the lake near me is still a little icy as you can see:

Thursday: 5 mile treadmill run, core workout, 2.25 mile inclined treadmill walk later in the day while working and 1.5 mile outdoor walk at lunch Another treadmill run, and then walk while working.  It had rained overnight, so I assumed the sidewalks would be slippery. I did get some outdoor time at lunchtime – I took a 1.5 mile walk outside and caught this view:

Friday: 5 treadmill miles, 2 mile walk outside – GM woke up in the middle of the night and of course after I went in his room I couldn’t get back to sleep, so my 4:30 a.m. wakeup would not happen. I didn’t start my workout until nearly 5:30 and then by that time barely had time for a 5 mile run before I was running late.  I also got in a 2 mile walk with B at lunchtime.  It was 45 degrees!

Saturday: 2 mile walk, 2 mile run on the treadmill, core work I was REALLY hoping to run outside but I woke up to more snow and ice (fresh!) on our driveway. Ugh! I got in a short run and short walk on the treadmill followed by some stretching and core work.

Total:  34.75 miles all treadmill running and weight training.

  • Did winter come and go and come back this week?
  • How was your February?

  1. February felt long and short to me. So much happened but it is hard to believe it is already March.

How nice of you to shovel your neighbor’s driveway, but LOL that it melted anyway.

You logged more than 3X miles than I did!

  2. Feb had the worst weather except for one week and I was lucky to escape to Fla.

Last week it warmed up but now we are paying for it with 10 degrees and wind.

I am hoping for a warm up so all the bike paths get clear.

  3. February was quick and very cold except for the last few days. You did log a ton of miles! Congrats on getting most of that done on the treadmill

  4. February was quick and very cold except for the last few days. You did log a ton of miles! Congrats on getting most of that done on the treadmill

  5. Yes, I agree- January went on forever and February came and went in a flash. That’s okay- I’m happy to move on to March!

Thank goodness for your treadmill! I hope all that ice melts soon and you can get outside again soon. March goes out like a lamb, right???

  6. That’s impressive treadmill miles! And it’s great that you got it moved to the basement with the rest of the gym equipment.

My months were the opposite. January flew by with getting ready to go to Florida and then being there almost half the month. February dragged by with me being in the hospital six days and my slow recovery back home. I’m glad it’s March!

  7. It felt to me like February was the longest 28 days ever. I think because it was so cold and we were stuck inside. I enjoyed the thaw last week and even though it got cold again, it was nice to not have to deal with snow or ice.

Your graham crackers look like the real deal! Love that you made them from scratch. Much healthier than the store bought ones.

  8. Have you gotten much more snow this year than usual? It seems like you’ve had nonstop snow (or precip of some sort). You’re a beast getting all those miles done on the treadmill!

    • I don’t think we’re higher than our average, actually– but that’s because we have only had one really big snowfall. We just keep getting 1-3 inches, then it stays for a few days, melts, then 1-3 more, etc. It’s just enough to be a pain for someone like me who runs!

  9. Those graham crackers look so good! I never thought about making them myself.

February was meh. It’s been such a rocky start to the year. I hate that.

We have had some cooler temps which makes me happy. I am holding on to it for as long as I can.
