Double 9s

March is ALMOST OVER, which means it’s almost race month. There are less than 50 days until race weekend. Eeek! I’m excited and can’t believe we’re already almost there. Spring officially is here, but it has been a roller coaster of weather here in Northeast Ohio. Sunday was old (started in the 20s/30s), and mid-week it snowed (but thankfully didn’t stick, and then yesterday (Saturday) I woke up at 5 a.m. to 68 degrees! It’s supposed to cool down again, but I’m enjoying the warm weather when it comes. I got in a mix of treadmill running, walking indoors and outdoors, and weight training, and it was a pretty standard week. Here’s how it looked:

Sunday: 9 treadmill miles, chest and tri workout, started back and bicep workout, 2.24 mile outdoor walk – WOW Sunday was an active day. But it was a fun day, too! The day started early  – I set my alarm for 5 a.m. because we had plans to leave the house early for Pancake Town, USA! If you’re new here, every year, Burton, Ohio (also officially known as Pancake Town, USA) taps their maple trees and hosts a variety of pancake breakfasts. We try to go to one each year but this year we’ve had so many sports on Sunday mornings that we haven’t been able to make it. We somehow ended up with no sports, birthday parties, etc. and were able to go!

Anyway, after my 9 treadmill miles, some weights, and then I got ready and it was time to go feast on pancakes.  You can see from my video below what it’s all about!

Later in the day, I got in some more weight training and an outdoor walk – it was chilly out but a beautiful day!

I’m glad I got in all that activity because the rest of the day went somewhat downhill. Later in the day, FW came down with a stomach bug, and then my daughter threw up in the middle of the night. So I didn’t get much rest Sunday into Monday.

Monday: 5 treadmill miles, finished shoulder and leg workout, DR core, start of back and bicep workout, 2-mile treadmill walk with incline, 1.9ish mile outdoor walk

I was TIRED from LM getting up in the middle of the night, and woke up later than I typically do on weekdays. Thankfully since the big kid weren’t going to school, I was able to make up for lost time and work out a little later. I knew that getting in a run would give me some energy to deal with working/being with sick kids all day, and I’m glad I was able to fit it in. Later in the morning, I was able to get in a treadmill walk while working, and then walked to pick up some lunch for the kids in the afternoon who seemed to be feeling better.

Tuesday: 7×400 meter run and walk/cool down to include 4.5 miles total, starting leg workout- I was not able to wake up on Tuesday! I slept through several alarms and then barely had time for my workout. I still made it for a speed workout, but my stomach was cramping up during my run and my pace was slower than last week. Was it related to something I ate? To the kids being sick? Not sure, but my energy (and stomach) was not in this run. I was beyond happy when it was done!

Wednesday: Finished leg day, 3.6 mile walk/run, 1.25 mile walk. SNOW! I woke up to it snowing and still feeling a little off/tired. My stomach was fine, but my body was still tired. I opted for a semi-rest day – or at least no real running workout. It included finishing my leg workout (some kettlebells and squats), some DR exercises and a short job/walk. I later was able to get in 1.2 miles walking on the treadmill while working.

Thursday: 5 mile treadmill run, DR core workout. 1.75 treadmill walk while working, 2 mile walk at lunch – Per usual, I was tired (see the theme), and I was glad I got in all my strength training for the week earlier, so I had time to snooze. I started my workout later, but did a diastasis recti core workout, followed by a walk on the treadmill and then run to get to 5 miles. I rarely warm up, but my legs were tired and warming up convinced me that I could get to a slow run. I got in a 2 mile walk at lunch and it was 50 degrees out! That night I also walked to happy hour with a friend – the wine bar is less than a mile from my house so it was nice to walk up and enjoy a wine flight and good convo.

Friday: 6.22 outdoor miles and 2 mile treadmill walk on incline – YAY for outdoor runs in my favorite running temperature! I woke up to 46 degrees, which is absolutely delightful to run in for me. I got suited up – capris, long sleeves and a vest with gloves (my hands are always cold) and figured I’d get in 4-5 miles. I was able to keep going and get in a nice fast (for me) but easy 10K. Definitely was one of those mornings where I could’ve kept going and was happy to be outside running! Now if only it had been light out – then it would have been the perfect run! I also got in a 2 mile treadmill walk while working.

Saturday: 9.08 outdoor miles – I usually reserve my long runs for Sundays, but I had a hard time sleeping Friday night and Saturday morning I woke up to 68 degrees at 5:30 a.m., so I decided to just get in my long run early on Saturday before we had to leave the house at 8:20. I had 8 miles on my schedule but had time and felt good enough to get in 1 more to make it a little over 9 before starting the day. Oh and having 9 miles outside so that I caught the sunrise during my last 2 miles – that was a great feeling!

Total:  42.4 miles running and weight training.

  • When was the last time you were able to run outside in shorts? It’s been a while for me – but I got in 2 runs outside this week, one with shorts!
  • Do you like pancakes?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. we had a few very warm days this past week as well. March is always iffy. I also like the mid 40’s for run temps. Hope you are the kiddos are all feeling better!

  3. Great job on getting in your workouts despite sick kiddos and feeling so tired.

I’ve been able to walk in shorts a few times this winter and had I been running, there were a few days I wore capris that I would have worn shorts.

Yes, I like pancakes and once a month our church has a pancake breakfast, but since I usually go to Saturday evening mass, I don’t partake.

  4. Oh yes I like pancakes! Waffles are my favorites, but I’ll happily eat pancakes. That sounds like a fun event.

I’m always amazed by how many runs and workouts you get in, despite all sorts of things going wrong. Like sick kids! When you said your stomach was cramping on your run I thought “Uh oh!” but it sounds like you were fine.

Nice job on the double 9s!

  5. I ran in shorts last week, and this week too. I’m reminded of how pale my legs are. Yuck! I will be putting on the fake tan lotion before Glass City weekend 🙂

I hope everyone is feeling better around your house. Stomach issues are no fun!!

  6. I finally got outside in shorts for my run on Friday morning! Such a good sign. We’re on that same weather roller coaster as you–it’s 70F right now, but we were at the lake and it was 35. Literally 2 hours away. Crazy.

Sorry to hear about the kids getting sick! i actually had a stomach thing yesterday into last night. I’m still not feeling right today. The worst! I had to skip my run!

  7. Yay for shorts weather! Especially for you, I know how much you like warm weather!

Today was the first day with some decent temperature and I was out in capri leggings and performance top only.

I must say that after caring for kids who had a stomach bug, and only getting some stomach cramps yourself, that’s being really REALLY lucky! Good work with all your workouts this week!

  8. yay for shorts weather!! I’ve actually been able to wear shorts at least once or twice each week (for the past month, I think). Bring on the warm temps!

  9. no shorts here yet. congrats on the 9 mile runs. I hope you do t get that bug. I have it now and I’ve never been so sick. yes. I love pancakes.

  11. I’ve been in shorts here for awhile, but I still usually start with a long-sleeve!

Sorry to hear about the kids being sick…hopefully you don’t catch it!
