Hooray for April! April in Cleveland means the weather is starting to get warm – but who am I kidding, it’s also 30 degrees and could snow any day now.
March was a good month in terms of training. I got in nearly 160 miles of running, stuck to my 4x a week strength training and miraculously have remained uninjured! Can I keep this up until race day? I sure hope so!

Here’s how it looked:
Sunday: 8 outdoor, chest and tri workout, 1.78 mile walk
Sunday’s run ALMOST didn’t happen. I had felt sick Saturday afternoon, finally succumbing to what I assumed were the stomach bugs that ran through our house the past week. I only actually felt sick for a few hours in the afternoon though, and even had Chinese for dinner and went to bed alright. Sunday I slept late for the first time in a few weeks and it was glorious! I woke up after 7 am to some rain but warm temperatures, and not sure if I had it in me to get in the long run on the schedule. I decided to eat a little food and see how I felt – fine! So then I headed out to what I told myself would be some slow and easy miles. I’m proud that I was able to do it! It was drizzling for half the time so I ended up soaking wet – but glad I tried and got it done.

Later in the day, I got in some more weight training and an outdoor walk to pick up dinner.
Monday: 4.11 outdoor miles, finished shoulder and leg workout, DR core, start of back and bicep workout, 1.25 miles walking on the treadmill
I was happy to have it be 55 degrees without rain during my run (we were expecting rain right after), but my legs were feeling heavy for the first two miles. It wasn’t really a surprise — I had run 9 miles Saturday and 8 on Sunday, which is a lot for me two days in a row. So I focused on just getting in my 4 and then heading home to get ready.
Tuesday: 40 minute tempo run and walking cool down – 4.75 miles total, finished back and bicep workout, started leg workout, 1.13 mile walk at lunch – I am always amazed how one snooze turns into me not starting my workout until 45 minutes after my first alarm went off. Wow, I move slow at 4 a.m.! Luckily, I had time to get in my workout and cool down, and then even went for a walk with a coworker at lunch!
Wednesday: Finished leg day, diastasis recti abs, 3.75 mile walk/run, 2.5 mile treadmill walk while working. My legs were feeling a little tired today so I decided to take it somewhat easy. I finished my leg workout, got in a DR workout, then a 3.75 mile walk/run. I was later able to get in 2.5ish miles on the treadmill while working. I had a few things to proofread and research, and walking (slowly!) at the same time helped me focus.
Thursday: 6.22 mile outdoor run and 2.13 miles outdoor walk at lunch- I had trouble sleeping Wednesday night and didn’t get to bed until almost 11, which is late for me. So when my 4:15 alarm went off I snoozed for almost an hour – yikes! Luckily I had gotten in all my strength training days for the week already (thanks to getting in some on Sunday), so I just had some running on the schedule. I ditched the schedule and got outside for a run because it was 65 degrees at 5 a.m.! It had stormed most of the night, so the streets were wet, and there was some debris on the ground. This was a weird run. First, it was windy and I was paranoid about tree limbs, etc. falling on me. Then, about a mile in, a car drove by and catcalled me. This doesn’t happen often at 5 a.m., so it was just a little strange. And then about 2 miles in, I spotted an unleashed tan dog across the street, so I turned down another street to avoid it. As I turned, I heard jingling getting closer to me – and another (unleashed) dog was running towards me. I panicked and definitely felt my adrenaline rush. I slowed down as the dog approached and tried to seem calm – just then the tan dog started barking and the dog running towards me lost interest and ran back to the tan dog. Phew! I felt the adrenaline wear off the next mile or so and felt my legs shaking for a while. I was glad to be home when I was done! It was also 60 and sunny at lunch, so I got in a nice walk in between a busy day at work. I love the feeling of getting in some activity in the middle of my day!
Friday: 9 treadmill miles and 2.7 outdoor walk at lunch – It was my favorite running temperature (44ish degrees), but after Thursday’s weird run I didn’t really feel like going outside. I put on a movie (King Richard) and hopped on the treadmill, hoping for 8-9 miles. I got in 5, sipped some water and walked for a little, and then finished to 9. I was SWEATY after that run!

I got in a great outdoor walk at lunchtime too – it was 60 and sunny by then and the signs of spring were everywhere.

Saturday: 4.5 treadmill miles – I was thinking of trying to get in a long run, but after the Friday long treadmill run my legs were shot. I barely made it 2, then walked, then got GM out of bed, then did 2ish more to make it to 2.5. We had nearly the whole day free and a friend in town with his kids, so we went to our local natural history museum, which was a blast. They also have an outdoor area with animals, etc. so it’s a nice way to spend a morning.

Total: 40.96 miles running and weight training.
- When was the last weekend you had a full day with nearly no plans? This was our first in ages since we are between sports seasons – and it was great!
- Is it Spring finally near you?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
