Still Out of Whack

Man, I am feeling out of whack this week. From being out of town Thursday through Monday, to having the kids finish school with 2 half days Thursday and Friday, to traveling again yesterday, this week was far from normal. I did my best to get in some activity, but it wasn’t my usual schedule and I was lacking sleep, routine, and even access to my home gym some days 🙂

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 4.15 mile run outside on vacation plus some walking – We were in Atlanta visiting friends, and they live in a beautiful neighborhood that’s on a walking path, right off a giant sidewalk and very easy for pedestrians. I was lucky enough to get in a nice run, and then later in the day we had some pool time, then walking along Atlanta’s beltline, and then LM and I took a walk along the water while the boys played pickleball. I had a lot of steps that day!

Monday: 2.43 outdoor miles before getting on the road (12 hours in the car!), some triceps – We had plans to get on the road by 7, so when it was light out around 6 I got outside for a short run before showering to get on the road. We didn’t quite get on the road until 8, but I was glad to have gotten in a last run in Atlanta before a long car ride home. When we got home, I started my chest and tricep workout but it was late!

Tuesday: Finished chest and tricep workout, did back and bicep workout, core workout, then 3.5 mile run indoors and 1.6 mile walk – Phew! After a long day in the car Monday, I was aching to get in a workout. But after going to bed around midnight, I was also tired 🙂 I made the most of it and got in a short treadmill run and some weights. That night, FW had a soccer game about 1.6 miles from our house, which has not happened in a while. I took advantage of the nice weather and walked to the game with GM and LM! It was a great night for a walk and LM used her new jump rope and jumped nearly the whole way there.

Wednesday: Finished back and bicep workout, leg workout, short core workout, 3.6 mile walk/run (3.2 miles outside and then .4 mile cool down on treadmill) – I was pooped but glad to get up and get in a good lifting session. I finished with a run/walk outside and finished with a short walk on the treadmill at an incline.

Thursday: 5 mile outdoor run! Core workout and then 1.5 mile treadmill walk while working – was tired I’m back! Ok I didn’t actually feel like my normal self, but I was able to get in an outdoor 5 mile run with ~9:40 min/mile pace and then a treadmill walk – both are things that I haven’t done in a while!

Friday: 6.25 mile outdoor run and 1.75 miles walking on the treadmill while working  – It was the last day of school and therefore my last SUPER early run before the kids get up (at least until camp starts, etc.). It was great to get outside and I even caught the sunrise! The days are getting longer and I feel it – I’m so used to running in the pitch black and sunrise runs mean new places that I can run, which makes me happy 🙂

Saturday: 2 miles at 3:15 a.m. – We had to leave the house by 4:20 to get to the airport for a flight, so I had debated not running. But I decided to set an early alarm and get in 2 treadmill miles before waking the kids up at 4 a.m. Then, we headed to the airport for a family trip! When we got in we did a little walking, but not much as I would have liked — but everyone was tired so it was understandable! Instead we walked a little around where we were staying, to lunch and then later to dinner.

We’re on vacation this week, so I’m sure workouts/runs will be a little more sparse and different. I feel guilty spending time away from the kiddos on vacation, so I don’t work out every day. We will have to see how it goes!

Total:  27.14 miles running plus weights

  • Any summer vacation plans?
  • When do schools get out near you?

  1. Great week! What lovely photos.

Atlanta has some really great running paths, doesn’t it? Though their full marathon was HILLY. Do not recommend that one, ha!

  2. Oh my gosh, your children look so cute in their first day of school and last day of school pictures!

I love the longer days and do love that I can go beyond my little circle on my early morning walks during the summer when it’s light earlier.

Enjoy your vacation! Where did you go?

  3. your kids are adorable. Still have school here but my kids are long gone.

You should come visit your folks one year and run Freihofers 5k.

Though yesterday’s weather was the worst.

  4. Wow, it sounds like another busy week! School also ended here this week (YAY!) Nice job as always getting all those runs and workouts in. It makes me tired just reading about it! I hope you have a fun vacation! Glad you’re flying this time instead of driving 12 hours.

  5. What a busy week–no wonder you felt out of sorts! That will be me next week–my work schedule is flip flopped to accommodate one of my partners who needed a day off and has no PTO left. I had to leave myself reminders every day so I remember when to go to work lol!

Enjoy your trip! Where are you going?

  6. I would never get up at 3 am to run or do anything! I need sleep to function. Hope you have a fantastic family trip this week

  9. Awh, such cute school pics!
busy week, and now vacation… not much time for rest, huh! Enjoy your trip!

  10. Wow, you really keep the momentum going with all that training despite travel and everything. Running at 3.15 am?!?? I hope you have a good time away.

  11. Aw! Hope you have the best vacation!

School actually got out on Friday (the 30th). The last week was mostly makeups and remediation, so a lot of kids skip.

We do have a small family vacation planned – this is obviously a busy time for petsitting, so I’ll be having all kinds of “vacations” where I stay at other people’s homes. Sometimes, it’s as good as a hotel lol. I have a solo trip with friends and the boys have a father son trip together too. Band camp starts in July so that sort of shuts down a lot of plans.
