I know I’m a broken record – but summer running really is my jam. I love the slower mornings with kids out of school, the lighter mornings (running in the light is the best!), the ability to run trails (because of aforementioned lighter mornings), and I don’t even mind the warm weather.
This week was no different. It was a good week of running, weight lifting, swimming, walking and just enjoying summer to its fullest. I can’t complain – in fact, this week’s activities made me content! It’s good to feel good!
Sunday: 10.17 miles, outdoors, plus shoulder and leg workout.
Another Sunday morning long run! I am loving when my Sundays allow for these to happen. It can’t happen every weekend, but when it does – it’s great! It was warm out, but my body was feeling finally accustomed to the warm weather. I stopped at mile 3 at a water fountain, got some water, and kept on going. I did stop to walk a few times, but overall was happy with getting in a long run at 10 something/mile pace. Was this my happy pace a few years ago? No. But I’ll be okay with it now!

Monday: 5.03 miles, plus back and bicep and ab workout, 1 mile walk at lunch
Monday morning came quickly after a “short” (normal) weekend. It was actually dark out when I woke up, eep! I guess fall is coming sooner than I’d like. I got in my weight workout while it was dark and as it started getting light it was time for me to go outside. It was warm but drizzling, which wasn’t that bad – it stopped after a few minutes and even cooled me off a bit as I started the workout.
Tuesday: 6.2 outdoor miles, leg workout, core workout, 1000 yard (?) lap swim
I got in my leg workout and core workout, and then got outside for a 10K. It was cooler out, but my body was still tired. I was glad to be outside again in the light, as it was dark again when I got up for my weight workout. That night at swimming lessons, I got in some more laps. Now that baseball and softball season officially ended the previous week, we just have swimming at nights (and piano lessons) – it’s nice to have a few weeks off between sports seasons.
It’s a wrap on our baseball/softball seasons! Here are some photos/video highilghts:
Wednesday: 6.6 mile walk/run outside, then 2 mile treadmill walk while working, .5 mile outdoor walk
I woke up sleeeepy. So much so that I got up, got ready for my run, and then laid back down on the couch for 10 minutes. The minute I started running, I knew it was not going to be a good run. I was barely moving and could barely keep my legs going. I was just so TIRED! I told myself to run 3 miles, but somehow I made it a little more and slogged through the 6.6 miles. I was rewarded with a scene of a momma deer and some babies walking through a stream along my path – so of course I’m glad I got out there and got in the full run! I also got in a treadmill walk while working, and then .5 miles at lunch.

Thursday: 7.32 mile run, 1.75 mi treadmill walk, 1625 yard (?) pool swim
I felt a little better this morning on my run, and didn’t stop to walk as much. It was warmer again, but I felt pretty good overall. I also got in a walk on the treadmill while working earlier in the day. That night at swim lessons I got in my LONGEST swim ever! I can’t guarantee that the distance is 100% correct since I have no idea how i ended up on an odd number, and realized later that my pool is in yards but it’s still longer than I’ve swam in my adult life at least.
Friday: 9.06 mile run, 1 mile walk at lunch and chest + tricep workout
I woke up to mid-60 degrees and just was feeling good for most of the run. If I had had more time, I would’ve gone for 10, but alas, had to get ready for my day. But I can’t complain – 9 miles on a Friday is a great start to my day!
Do you spy the heron flying in the image below?

Saturday: 1.5 mile walk/run with FW and GM, then 3.27 mile walk, shoulder and leg workout
I decided to go for a stroller run with GM to keep it easy on my legs after my 9 miler on Friday, but FW asked to come with us. We ran for maybe .5 miles before FW complained, so we just walked/ran the last 1 mile to a Farmers Market. We then walked around the market, and walked to a nearby trail – sadly no more running for me! We stopped by the nearby Nature Center and there were signs and fly swatters out, asking people to kill the lantern flies – and there were so many of them! The boys had a good time swatting them before we finished our walk home.
Total: 45.89 miles running plus swimming, weights and walking
- Any Farmers Markets near you for your weekend?
- Are you seeing the lantern flies near you?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Such a great week for you–you sound so happy! Those summers with the kids are the best. I’m glad running is going so well for you–swimming too!
When my kids were younger I used to love the relaxed nature of summer and the extended daylight. Like you. I’ve noticed it slipping away. Ugh. Great week for you!
well we won’t see a 6 in our weather for a long time! Glad you are enjoying your summer running
I am not enjoying summer running around here, but I am glad you do! You logged some solid runs for sure.
LOL on the boys getting to swat lantern flies. I wonder if we can make a difference — it seems there are so many!
Yes, I love the later mornings (no school) and the daylight during my runs- I’m not loving the heat though. But, I think I am finally acclimated to it, sort of. I’m glad you’re feeling so good! And nice job on that swim- I find swimming to be so boring but I love the way it feels when I’m done.
Good job on that swim – I can’t even imagine! Also, great job on getting in a 9-mile run before work on Friday.
I love that the nature center had flyswatters out to kill the lantern bugs. Two years ago I saw my first one in a town about 15 minutes away and last year I saw a bunch there. I saw our first in our yard this summer before we left for our trip…
We had a couple of cooler mornings last week, but the humidity was still off the charts. I couldn’t believe just how cold those 60F temps felt!
I do love summer – the flowers, the early mornings and the extra daylight but running in the humidity has had me throw in the towel. A perfect summer for swimming… alas I do not have a pool.
We have quite a few farmers markets but I never seem to have time to go.
I think we have a few too many farmer’s markets around here! Each small town has one which seems to lessen the amount of people that visit them because they happen so often. I do enjoy going to one of them though, it’s quite busy. Glad you are able to take advantage of the laid back summer vibe! Congrats on that swim, that’s huge!!
I am so glad you are loving life right now. I can’t even stomach the thought of going to a farmer’s market. It’s just suffocatingly hot and miserable. It will cool down but for now, it’s all about the a/c.
Way to kick butt on that swim!
