Ahh September is here!! How did that happen? Whetr did my beloved summer go?
August was a mixed bag for me. After running nearly 200 miles in July (a lot for me!)I started August with a hip injury and have been nursing it ever since. This means that instead of a lot of running miles to report, I’m instead walking and doing weights. I’m staying active, but in different ways.
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 5 mile outdoor walk/run, back and bicep workout
Once again, instead of getting in a long Sunday run, I got in a long(ish) walk and some weights. I had done a run on Saturday and was feeling it Sunday morning, so I decided to play it safe. I did end up jogging a few times to see how the hip felt, but mostly walked. I actually cut the walk short, because about halfway through the walk, I found out we had secured some free tickets to the Cleveland Air Show, so I rushed home so we could get ready for the day.
The day was fun – we went to the airshow with the kids, and then the Guardians game, before having dinner with B’s family. It was nonstop, and despite not running, I ended the day with almost 20,000 steps thanks to all the outdoor activity we had.

Monday: 5.37 mile outdoor walk, 1.25 mile treadmill walk, started leg day
LABOR DAY! It was so nice to sleep somewhat in. B’s alarm went off at 6:30 (he forgot to turn it off) so I did end up waking up early, but 2 hours after I typically wake up on week days. With the early alarm, I was able to get outside for a long-ish walk and get in most of it while the house was still asleep. While the kids had breakfast, I got in some weights and then later in the day a quick treadmill walk. With having the extra day off, I tried to be somewhat productive — while B took the kids for a bike ride (GM just learned to ride this weekend!), I got groceries for the week and made some mini banana muffins for snacks. Labor Day is the last day the pool is open, and while it was chilly out, the kids wanted to get in one last swim! So we headed there about 30 minutes before closing time and while I sat with my long sleeves on, they got in one more swim of summer.

Tuesday: 2.5 mile treadmill walk, 1.72 mile outdoor walk, hip opening stretches, finished leg workout, some core and push ups
It was back to my 4:30 alarm, so I decided to just get in my weights and then a treadmill walk on 3.0 incline. Later, GM wanted to get in a stroller walk after FW and LM got on the school bus, and we got in 1.7ish miles before I had to go to work.
Wednesday: 2.13 mile walk (with a few short running breaks) outside, .9 mile walk inside, then 4.88 miles walking outside split between two), weighted core workout, push ups
I had played it safe and walked indoors Tuesday, so I decided to head outside in the dark for a short walk in the morning after doing a weighted core workout. I made it 2.13 miles, then finished with .9 miles on an incline on the treadmill. Later in the day, I got in 2.84 miles with GM and then 2.04 miles on my own. It was gorgeous at lunchtime, and I even saw some turtles out on my short walk.

Thursday: 2.01 mile walk/run outside, weighted core workout, 10 minute ride on the indoor bike, 1 mile on the treadmill, then 2 mile stroller walk outside with GM
I once again felt like I wanted to brave the dark and get in a walk outside. About 1.5 miles in, it started POURING, so I ran home. The .5 miles I ran slowly, but I didn’t stop the entire time! Hopefully my hip won’t suffer from that. Later it stopped, so GM and I got in a stroller walk for bagels after the big kids went to school. Having the big kids off to school by 7:15 means I have some 1:1 time with GM before I work!

Friday: Chest and tricep workout, 2.11 mile walk/run, 10 minutes on the indoor bike, 1 mile on the treadmill on an incline, 2.86 miles walking outside – stroller with GM
I woke up to gorgeous running weather! It was chilly (upper 50s) and of course, I’m still not running! I got in a weight workout, and then opted to head outside for a short walk with a few bursts of running in there. It was 90% walking but I did run for a little bit and while it felt good mentally, my hip ended up feeling it. I headed inside to finish my workout with a treadmill walk on an incline, an indoor bike ride, and then later, a walk outside after the big kids went to school.
Saturday: 5ish miles outdoor walk, 5 minutes on the indoor bike, arm workout workout, some abs + push ups
We had to be out of the house by a little before 8, so I set an alarm to get in my weight workout, followed by a 3 mile walk. We then headed to watch some family who were biking in our local Velosano (cancer fundaiser) event – I was able to walk there and walk home, getting me in another few miles (a little over 2). Then, it was time for flag football, piano and LM’s first soccer game!
Some questions for you:
- Are you/your family active in any fall sports?
- Did you get some big temperature fluctuations this week?
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

It sounds like you’re keeping busy (very busy!) despite your hip pain. My youngest played rugby, so we were always busy with games and practices in the fall. I do miss that! It’s been pleasantly cool this week–I’m not sure I’m ready for it to be fall, though! I hope you feel better soon!
Ugh, that hip! I definitely know how frustrating that feels. Still- I’ll bet all the walking felt good. And- you can never go wrong with getting stronger. You should be able to jump right back into running as soon as your hip is up to it.
My daughter is in the marching band, so football season is marching season for us! And- no temperature fluctuations here- hot and humid will be our weather for a couple more months. SIGH.
I hope the time off that you’re giving your hip is helping and you’ll come out the other end pain-free and much stronger!
Our sons were active in sports all seasons, and once they were a little older it was travel sports so we were super busy!
my Facebook memories just reminded me of when my son learned how to ride his bike. Such sweet memories!!
sounds like you had a really busy week & kept very active despite not running. Hope your hip is feeling better. That was always the spot I felt it first. Kids are getting big!

Our mornings were pretty cool here last week. They do feel good for running, but are cold for walking and freezing for biking. UGH. I want my summer back, LOL!
Even with less running, you certainly get a lot of activity done! I’m impressed! I’m also sad that summer is ending but I’m trying to embrace to lovely days of early autumn. It’s cooler here but still very nice.
We are a marching band family, and that is our late summer through fall sport LOL! It’s a lot of work!
No big temp swings here, which is devastating. I want fall!
