Let me start by saying fall is NOT here yet. I’m a summer lover, so I will be the first to correct you and say that summer is still here (at least for another week or so officially). But it has started feeling like fall here. The temperatures are crisper, the days are darker, and I’m in denial!
It’s the perfect running weather — but as you know, I’m being careful with my hip and not really running (instead mostly walking with some running thrown in), and it’s chilly for walks! I don’t love it, especially since my hands are cold. But it’s feeling like fall, and with that, we have had a ton of fun things going on, which I do love! So with fall around the corner, I am enjoying the fun festivals, celebrations and more fun that comes with it.
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 5/1 miles walking (2 outdoor and 3.1 indoor), 10 minutes indoor bike, started back and bicep workout
My goal was to get in a long Sunday walk, but I woke up to pouring rain. So I started my day with a back/bicep workout .. then I saw it was about to stop raining so I went outside for a walk/run (mostly walking with a little running) — and then about a mile from home I saw it was going to rain again, so I bolted back home and finished on the treadmill.
The day included a soccer game for FW and an open house where he takes music lessons. While it had rained on my run in the morning, the afternoon was sunny and chilly – it was beautiful and really felt like fall!

Monday: 2.18 m outdoor walk/run, 15 minutes indoor cycling and leg day with some push ups/sit ups; then 2.28 m stroller walk and 1.75 mi treadmill walk with incline.
I once again woke up to good running weather, but wasn’t running! I did run/walk a little bit for my 2.18 miles – between my morning walk and walk with GM, I ended up running about a mile total, and walking the rest. I split up .1-.2 miles of running within all my walking. I later got in some treadmill walking (slow!) on an incline.
Tuesday: 20 minutes cycling, 1 mile SLOW treadmill running, 1.75 mile treadmill walk on incline, 1.84 mile stroller walk with GM to vote!, weighted core workout and push ups, then .38 mi jog with LM
On Monday, I had heard a story about a woman who was running in our local metropark system (where I used to run before we moved) and was attacked while running. She’s injured, but okay – but I was still shook up and decided to play it safe by getting in an indoor workout. I HATE that women have to be careful doing what they love and can’t just run safely, regardless of what time of day you go, or what you’re wearing, or even who you’re with! I know I’ll be back outside for my walks soon, but I just wasn’t up for it this morning in the dark. Later, after the big kids went to school, I took GM with me on a walk to my polling place to get in some quick voting before work. That night, I picked up LM from soccer practice and she and I decided to run one lap around the park where her practice was – it was .38 miles and my hip felt alright during it.

Wednesday: 22 minutes cycling, 1 mile walking on treadmill with an incline, 2.4 mile stroller walk, weighted standing core workout, push ups + sit ups, 1.5 miles on the treadmill while working
I once again decided to workout indoors when it was dark out, and got in a short/slow run and cycling. I notice the twinge in my hip as I got to the end of the run so I took it super easy and vowed NOT to run on Thursday. I also got in some core work, and more walking with GM outside as well as while working.
Thursday: Chest and tricep workout, 25minutes on the indoor bike, 1.5 mile walk on the treadmill on an incline, 4.86 miles walking outside (split between a lunch walk and stroller walk for GM)
I had vowed not to run, so I didn’t! I instead focused on walking, cycling and weights for the day.
Friday: Shoulder and leg workout, 20 minutes on the indoor bike, 1.5 miles on the treadmill on an incline, 1.83 mi walk with GM in the stroller, then 2.67 mile lunchtime walk
I again told myself not to run. So again, weights, cycling, and walking. See a pattern yet? I did get in some informal walking later in the day, as FW was in the local school’s homecoming parade (he marched with his soccer team) and we walked to and from the parade, and during the route somewhat to follow him. It was a gorgeous day and perfect for being outside!
Saturday: 3.6 miles on the treadmill – with 2 of them being a slow, slow walk, plus 20 minutes on the indoor bike, some abs + push ups
We had a lot of plans ahead for our day – it was B’s birthday so we had friends coming over at around noon for a bbq; GM had a birthday party from 10-noon, and LM had a soccer game at 2. So, I: got up at 6:30 to get in a workout before the kids woke up. The second GM got up a little after 7, I got him out of bed and ready for the day without B waking up – then I brought him into the basement while I did the bike for a bit. It would’ve been nice to go for an outdoor run, but that was all the time we had before starting our day! It was fun and busy, which I always enjoy. And, good news – during my extremely slow 2 miles, my hip felt okay! Does that mean I should run on Sunday? Or take it easy?

Some questions for you:
- Would you try to run on Sunday or take it easy after running a few miles on Saturday?
- Any fall celebrations coming up for you?
