Happy Hallo-weekend! We had a great time celebrating Halloween despite everything going on (including my son and his appendix taken out last week) and I truly can’t believe we’re in NOVEMBER.
October was an interesting month – I was coming off an injury and starting to run again, we had two fun races, and I continued lifting weights and walking. It’s the first month in a while that I actually have running mileage to report! While not my traditional numbers, I’m still pleased that i got in some runs. Here were some October highlights:
- I did 2 races! I got in the Happy 5K and Bulldog Bolt 5K with my son – we ran/walked them as I was recovering from my hip injury.
- I kept up my weight training.
- I started running again – I’m still recovering and trying to walk/run as much as I can, as well as not run daily. But that’s hard!
- Total miles: 101.63 miles

Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 7.09 mile run and started back/bicep workout, 3 mile hike
After the crazy week we had and stressful Friday/Saturday, I was so glad to get in this run on Sunday. I woke up before anyone in the house was up, and finished the run just a few minutes after GM woke up. It was great timing! I got in a short back/bicep workout later in the day. We also got in a hike later in the day – it’s become an annual tradition for us to hike around Squires Castle when the leaves change colors and even though GM wasn’t feeling well, B was able to carry him in our baby backpack for most of the walk – but GM got in some walking too! I was so glad that just two days post-surgery he was feeling able to walk a little bit.

Monday: Finished back workout, then started leg workout, 1 mile treadmill run, 1.5 treadmill walk on incline plus 4.25 mile walk outside
After Sunday’s long-ish run, or at least the longest run I’ve done in a while, I decided to stay inside and walk on the treadmill, and do my weights. I did kettlebells, squats and a few other exercises, along with a little cardio. I also got in two walks during the day, including a walk with GM in the stroller.
Tuesday: Core workout, 4.08 mi outdoor run, .5 mile indoor walk on incline, 1.36 mile walk outside wit GM
It was 40 degrees and I didn’t want to get outside. I did my core workout, and then got outside to run. My legs were a little sore from Monday’s leg workout, but otherwise I was surprised at how good I felt. I would’ve run longer or walked longer but I simply ran out of time – before I knew it, it was 6:15 and time to wake up the kids/get ready for my day/end the workout!
Wednesday: 5.03 mile run/walk, pilates core workout, push ups
I was dragging again – these cooler, dark mornings make it so hard to get out of bed! It doesn’t help that I’m getting to bed later than I should too! But I got up, got in a core workout, push ups and then a 5 mile run/walk.
Thursday: 3 mile treadmill run, chest and triceps
I woke up to pouring rain and forecast for pouring rain most of the day. The kids didn’t have school, so I was able to sleep in a little bit, but that of course impacted how much time I had to work out. I was glad to be able to get some weights and running on the treadmill before a very rainy day.
Friday: 5.05 mile run/walk, shoulder workout
The kids had off school and I got to sleep in – I didn’t start my run until about 6:30! It was nice to finish the run and the sun was coming up. I did a run/walk, with a lot of walking in there, and then got in a shoulder workout also. I was a little stressed out because it was Halloween and I had so much to do on my list (make chili for dinner, get pumpkins, carve pumpkins, finish buying candy) but I took off half a day and somehow managed to get it done! Later that day we got in a bunch of Halloween fun – including pumpkin picking out, pumpkin carving, and even had everything ready for dinner by 5 so we could eat before our Halloween started. Our neighborhood goes ALL out and we get a few hundred trick-or-treaters, which is crazy but fun. My big kids wanted to do more trick-or-treating this year than they had in the past, so it was fun to walk around with them. Love getting in lots of steps from trick-or-treat!

Saturday: 5.1 mile walk/run and 2 mile family walk
I passed out Friday night – and slept in! I got out for a run in the DAYLIGHT and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was crisp out – 40s – and beautiful fall colors. The PERFECT running weather! My parents were in town, and later in the day we got in a nice family walk.

Total: 29.45 miles running (with walking) plus weights.
Some questions for you:
- How many trick-or-treaters do you get?
- Did you dress up for Halloween? I wore cat ears and a tail.
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
