Halloweeeek!

Happy Hallo-weekend! We had a great time celebrating Halloween despite everything going on (including my son and his appendix taken out last week) and I truly can’t believe we’re in NOVEMBER.

October was an interesting month – I was coming off an injury and starting to run again, we had two fun races, and I continued lifting weights and walking. It’s the first month in a while that I actually have running mileage to report! While not my traditional numbers, I’m still pleased that i got in some runs. Here were some October highlights:

  • I did 2 races! I got in the Happy 5K and Bulldog Bolt 5K with my son – we ran/walked them as I was recovering from my hip injury.
  • I kept up my weight training.
  • I started running again – I’m still recovering and trying to walk/run as much as I can, as well as not run daily. But that’s hard!
  • Total miles: 101.63 miles

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 7.09 mile run and started back/bicep workout, 3 mile hike

After the crazy week we had and stressful Friday/Saturday, I was so glad to get in this run on Sunday. I woke up before anyone in the house was up, and finished the run just a few minutes after GM woke up. It was great timing! I got in a short back/bicep workout later in the day. We also got in a hike later in the day – it’s become an annual tradition for us to hike around Squires Castle when the leaves change colors and even though GM wasn’t feeling well, B was able to carry him in our baby backpack for most of the walk – but GM got in some walking too! I was so glad that just two days post-surgery he was feeling able to walk a little bit.

Monday: Finished back workout, then started leg workout, 1 mile treadmill run, 1.5 treadmill walk on incline plus 4.25 mile walk outside

After Sunday’s long-ish run, or at least the longest run I’ve done in a while, I decided to stay inside and walk on the treadmill, and do my weights. I did kettlebells, squats and a few other exercises, along with a little cardio. I also got in two walks during the day, including a walk with GM in the stroller.

Tuesday: Core workout, 4.08 mi outdoor run, .5 mile indoor walk on incline, 1.36 mile walk outside wit GM

It was 40 degrees and I didn’t want to get outside. I did my core workout, and then got outside to run. My legs were a little sore from Monday’s leg workout, but otherwise I was surprised at how good I felt. I would’ve run longer or walked longer but I simply ran out of time – before I knew it, it was 6:15 and time to wake up the kids/get ready for my day/end the workout!

Wednesday: 5.03 mile run/walk, pilates core workout, push ups

I was dragging again – these cooler, dark mornings make it so hard to get out of bed! It doesn’t help that I’m getting to bed later than I should too! But I got up, got in a core workout, push ups and then a 5 mile run/walk.

Thursday: 3 mile treadmill run, chest and triceps

I woke up to pouring rain and forecast for pouring rain most of the day. The kids didn’t have school, so I was able to sleep in a little bit, but that of course impacted how much time I had to work out. I was glad to be able to get some weights and running on the treadmill before a very rainy day.

Friday:  5.05 mile run/walk, shoulder workout

The kids had off school and I got to sleep in – I didn’t start my run until about 6:30! It was nice to finish the run and the sun was coming up. I did a run/walk, with a lot of walking in there, and then got in a shoulder workout also. I was a little stressed out because it was Halloween and I had so much to do on my list (make chili for dinner, get pumpkins, carve pumpkins, finish buying candy) but I took off half a day and somehow managed to get it done! Later that day we got in a bunch of Halloween fun – including pumpkin picking out, pumpkin carving, and even had everything ready for dinner by 5 so we could eat before our Halloween started. Our neighborhood goes ALL out and we get a few hundred trick-or-treaters, which is crazy but fun. My big kids wanted to do more trick-or-treating this year than they had in the past, so it was fun to walk around with them. Love getting in lots of steps from trick-or-treat!

Saturday: 5.1 mile walk/run and 2 mile family walk

I passed out Friday night – and slept in! I got out for a run in the DAYLIGHT and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was crisp out – 40s – and beautiful fall colors. The PERFECT running weather! My parents were in town, and later in the day we got in a nice family walk.

Total: 29.45 miles running (with walking) plus weights.

Some questions for you:

  • How many trick-or-treaters do you get?
  • Did you dress up for Halloween? I wore cat ears and a tail.

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Aww how much fun to have your parents there. Beautiful family photo–and that photo with the trees is gorgeous! For some reason, we don’t get a lot of trick or treaters anymore–I don’t know if they have gone to a different part of my neighborhood or what. We have a LOT of candy leftover. Good thing I bought chocolate…

Glad to see your youngest is on the mend! Hopefully things will calm down for you now.

  2. It’s great to see that your son is recovering so well from his appendectomy! I bet he was happy to feel well enough to trick-or-treat. We had the usual amount, maybe 40 kids at best.

  3. so glad your son is recovering well!!!

they have off for Halloween? Amazing!

our neighborhood usually goes all out but we were at senior night and the football game so we didn’t participate in a darn thing. I’m a little sad about it but it was worth it

  4. You got a few HUNDRED trick or treaters??? I would say we got around… 15? We used to get more, but there aren’t as many young kids in our neighborhood anymore, which is kind of sad.

Your son definitely takes after you- out hiking two days after an appendectomy. That’s totally something you would do. I think your whole family must have “robot” genes.

Nice job getting in those runs and workouts, AND having a really fun Halloween. Glad your hip is feeling better!

  5. Glad to hear the little guy’s recovery is going well! Not much Halloween action in my ‘hood, as it all happened a week ago (and I did’t get the memo ahead of time). Beautiful pics, of the family and all the fall foliage!

  6. beautiful fall photos this week! Your kids are at the perfect age for Halloween. We used to go all in and get really dressed up with our kids. I miss all of that! Enjoy it while they are young

  9. The fall colors are so pretty in your area! I need to make a trip out that way again soon. We had around 150 kids trick or treating at our house. It was a constant flow of kids! I miss going out with my kids getting candy.

Good job on the workouts this week. I’m glad running is feeling good again for you, and that your son’s recovery has gone well!

  10. Those fall colors are stunning!

So glad your son is feeling better — especially for trick-or-treating! Wow on how many kids you got. We got a fraction of that, but more than most years. We do have more kids on our street now — maybe they tell their friends to come this way — we’re at the end of a cul-de-sac at the top of a steep hill.

I didn’t mind running in the dark last week, but I sure appreciated the daylight today!
