This week was fun — and a little out of the norm! While I stayed active, a few things kept me from my regularly scheduled workouts this week:
- GM was still home from school, which meant my days were filled with working and hanging out with him. It was a little crazy so some mornings or even lunches when I would normally be working out, I was instead catching up on work and life stuff to accommodate being with him most days
- I headed to Sedona for a girls trip! This meant no normal weight workouts or runs for the long weekend – but instead, lots of fun and catching up with girl friends, which I can’t complain about.
Knowing this, here is what the week looked like:
Sunday: 7.28 mile run with a little walk, 1.73 mile walk with GM in the stroller, back and bicep workout and some split squats
Happy Sunday after time change! I set my alarm to get in an early run, and got outside just as the sun was setting. About 1 mile in, it was bright enough for me to go to the path I only run when it’s light out (there are not really any lights on it), which was great. I ran and walked some but mostly ran this day. Again, the fall colors were amazing looking. I also started my leg workout (split squats) did my arm workout (back and bicep workout with free weights) and a walk with LM later in the day with GM in the stroller.

Monday: Leg workout, 2.5 indoor treadmill workout on an incline, 2 mile walk outside, 4.53 mile walk/run outside
After Sunday’s “long run,” my legs were tired! I tried running but ended up doing much of a walk/run. I got in a few walks during the day, as well as my leg workout as well. That night, not running-related, but I got to see an author speak! It was the first time I’ve done this in Cleveland and it was such a cool experience.
Tuesday: 4.14 mile run, core workout
I got in a short run, and then it was off to work. I spent most of the day in the office and by the end of the day my leg/hip was feeling tight.
Wednesday: 2.8 mile treadmill walk, core and booty/glute workout, 1.3 miles outside
After running Sunday through Tuesday, I told myself to take Wednesday off. Did I want to take off? Of course not! But my leg/hip was a little tight Tuesday after sitting for most of the day at work. So I did a glute/booty and core bodyweight workout, followed by a short treadmill walk on an incline. I also got in a short lunchtime walk.
Thursday: 2.6 miles running on the treadmill, 1.8 mile treadmill walk, 2 mile walking outside
I woke up a little tired after being out late Wednesday for my daughter’s team soccer party, and of course I struggled getting out of bed. I didn’t want to put on outdoor clothes, so I decided to keep it “easy” again with a short run and focused mostly on walking. I was working from home with GM during the day, so I didn’t get any other activity. He is cleared to go back to school next week!

Friday: EARLY workout – 2.5 mile treadmill run and 1.5 mile airport walk
I set my alarm for 2:55 a.m. to get in a short workout before my flight – I had plans to fly to Phoenix for a girls weekend with my best friends from high school! We try to do a trip about once a year. We stopped during covid and when some of us had kids it got hard, but we’re 2 for 2 now 🙂 Anyway, I got up, did 2.5 miles on the treadmill (I didn’t feel like running outside at 3 a.m.), got showered, and headed to the airport. The TSA lines were INSANE. I’ve never seen them so long! But luckily I had gotten to the airport an insane amount of time in advance, and I made it to my gate no problem. I actually was so early, I had time to do a 1.5 mile airport walk to get in a few steps before my long flight.

Saturday: 5 mile hike in Sedona
We got up early for a sunrise hike – we did a few trails around Sedona. We took Teacup Trail to Coffee Pot trail and then visited Devils Kitchen. It was gorgeous! We ended up doing just about 5 miles, and it was so amazing. The scenery was so beautiful and nothing like anything I’m used to.

Total: 21 miles running, plus some walking, hiking and weights.
Some questions for you:
- Would you wake up at 3 a.m. for a pre-airport workout?
- Do you prefer fall back or spring forward? Fall back all the way! I prefer the extra hour of sleep and the brighter early mornings. While I hate it getting dark earlier, I love it being lighter at the bus stop and on weekend morning runs, at least for a little while.
I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Oh, I’m jealous of your trip to Sedona! It’s so beautiful there! We took the boys probably 20 years ago and it was fun. Of course, they had fun with the vortexes, lol. Enjoy your time there!
I’m with you on the time change–I’m happy to have it light again for my runs in the morning!
no I would not wake up at 3 am for a workout but I am all in on the airport walks and standing core which is my go to on a travel day. Sedona is gorgeous so glad you got to sneak out for a trip with your friends to enjoy

I’ve never been to Sedona BUT I WANT TO GO!!! Um… I might set my alarm for a 3 am workout… but I’m not sure about that. Anyway, glad your son is feeling better and can return to school this week. And, it sounds like your hip is holding up well. Is it just tightness and no pain? You and Kim seem to have the same thing going on!
You know what I’m going to say- I LOVE falling back, hate springing ahead. So nice to have the daylight in the morning!
Your girls trip to Sedona sounds like a lot of fun! I’d wake up at 4 AM for a workout before a trip, but not 3 AM unless I knew I could sleep on the entire flight out to Arizona.
It’s great to hear that your little guy is on the mend!
Enjoy your girls trip! Sounds like so much fun! I have gotten up early-early to get in a workout before something else was on the agenda. Priorities 😉
What a fun trip for you and your friends! Beautiful area. The weather looks good too!
I did have to get up at 3am to do a long run before we went on a trip to Hawaii. It did help me sleep on the plane and be in a better mood for any problems that came up during our travel day! Good job getting your workouts in!
I bet GM loved the extra Mom time recently 🙂
Love girls trips… I heard Sedona is so beautiful.
I would get upif I were training for a big race.
I am loving the light in the morning but hating that it’s dark already when I have done with work.
