Hot and Cold

This week featured a little of everything – some hot weather (in Sedona) and cold weather (back in CLE). Some sunshine and some snow. Some running and some hiking. A day of vacation, and then back to work. It really was a mix of everything, and I’m still recovering from it all!

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 5 mile hike in Sedona (Margs Trail and a little more), plus some walking around the neighborhood and other parts of the city

It was day #2 of our girls weekend! We started the day with another early morning hike, getting to the trail before 7 a.m. to catch the end of the sunrise and beat the crowds. It was chilly when we started, but warmed up during the hike. We had some amazing views once again, including finally catching the Snoopy Rock! We did a scenic drive later in the day, including taking a break for a short walk, and then did a sunset walk to the trails later in the day as well.

Monday: 2.5 outdoor run/walk in Sedona before my flight, then 1 mile airport walk

It was the last day of our trip, and included mostly a drive back to Phoenix and flights back. We had plans to wake up early to grab breakfast before our drive back to Phoenix, but I hadn’t run in a few days and new I’d be happier if I got in a run before my flight. Luckily, I was able to get outside at 6:15ish and get in a 2.5 mile walk/run before we hit the road. It was a BEAUTIFUL morning and I was able to catch the sunrise on the red rocks AND even saw some wild javelinas (pigs).

That afternoon flying back from Phoenix was so crazy! So many flights were cancelled or delayed with the Governmenr shut down. My flight was delayed several times so I didn’t get out until 2+ hours later, but I was grateful to get home, even if I didn’t get into my bed at home until nearly midnight.

Side note – if you’ve never been to Sedona, I HIGHLY recommend you make the trip. Everything was amazing and we did so many things – from aura readings to star gazing to hikes and more. I wrote a blog post about it here.

Tuesday: 4 mile treadmill walk/run, core, chest and tricep workout, started some shoulder workout

WOW I was tired! I got home from the airport Monday night LATE (after flight delays), and I woke up to SNOW and a little ice, so I did NOT want to go outside. After my warm and sunny time off, I was not happy for dark and chilly morning. But I was back at it! I got in a mile warm up jog on the treadmill, then my chest + tricep workout, some abs and shoulder weights, then finished up with 3 more miles on the treadmill- mix of running and walking.

Wednesday: 3.2 treadmill run, core workout, back and bicep workout and finished shoulder workout, 1.76 miles while walking on treadmill

I woke up to some cold temps again, and since it was super icy Tuesday, decided to play it safe inside. I did some weights and abs, and then had time for 3.2 miles on the treadmill before having to wake up the kids for school.

Thursday: 3.5 miles running on the treadmill, 1.5 mile treadmill walk, 1.6 mile walk outside leg workout + 8 min abs

Leg day! While it was finally not icy or super cold, I still didn’t feel like getting out of the house or putting on warm clothes after my leg workout, so I decided to just stay inside on the treadmill. It was HARD – I was tired and my legs were tired, so I was just grateful to have gotten it in. I also got in a short walk at lunch – it was still chilly out but sunny and made for a nice walk before a lunchtime Target run 🙂

Friday:  Chest, tri and core workout, plus 3.5 on the treadmill and about 4.3 miles outside walking later in the day

I somehow slept through my alarm, but GM woke up at 5 a.m. and well, I was able to get out of bed and start my workout then. I didn’t have as long as I would like, but I was glad to get in some miles to start my weekend.

Saturday: 6.24 miles outdoors!

It was my first run outside since Sedona, and it was amazing! I slept in and did a walk/run and it was 50 degrees and bright out at 7:30 a.m. A perfect start to a crazy Saturday that includes 2 playdates, a birthday party, soccer and skating.

Total: 22.98 miles running, plus some walking, hiking and weights.

Some questions for you:

  • Have you ever been to Sedona?
  • Have you flown since the Government shut down? Was it crazy like it was for me?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. I just had dinner with a friend, and she’d been to Sedona on a recent girls trip. She thought it was beautiful, but so dry (she was there last month, I think).

  2. No I’ve never been to Sedona! I have to read your post about it- I definitely want to go. We were really worried about my son getting home for Thanksgiving- but hopefully things will be back to normal by then with the airlines.

How is the hip feeling? You did a good bit of running and didn’t mention it- hopefully everything is good.

  3. Government shutdown? What? What have I missed?

That looks like some fabulous places to hike! Such different landscape compared to what I’m used to. I’m glad you had a nice time away! But wow, how depressing coming back to ice and snow. I feel for you and I’d opt to stay inside too.

  4. That is a big change of scenery for you this past week! The snowy weather was a bit crazy here. Sounds like a great getaway with your friends. I’ve never been to Sedona. It’s quite dry there? I’m sure I would be the one slathering on the hand cream constantly!

  5. I’m so glad you enjoyed Sedona! I’d love to go back. Traveling is not so much fun lately–I hope things get sorted out. Glad it warmed back up and the snow melted! That was crazy!

  6. Love your girls trip. We pretty stay within driving distance for ours.

Nope on Sedona but I want to!!

My next flight is Dec 11. Fingers crossed.

  7. That sounds like a lovely trip, but such a rude awakening coming home to snow and ice. I’ve not been to Sedona, but spent a girls’ weekend in the Scottsdale area several years ago.

  8. It looks like you had a wonderful trip! I’m so happy! I’ve never been to Sedona but I’ve heard great things.

We flew on Thursday. The shutdown was just ended, but I was so anxious and nervous about the whole thing. Fortunately, we only had minor delays, unrelated to anything going on and our travel was fairly smooth. I’m very grateful.

    Stay warm!
