Turkey Trot, Travels and Family

We did it! We made it through November without an injury. AND we made it through a crazy week of travels, AND I still got in some activity. It wasn’t a high week, but it wasn’t a low week and I’ll take what I can get.

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 7.58 mile outdoor run

It was chilly out but I got up semi-early for a Sunday and got outside by around 7:30! I went out with no goals, just to run 6-8 miles. And I got right in there! It was a great day, I got in a little walking and then headed home. I was cold but glad to have gloves on because my hands always seem to be colder than the rest of me.

Monday: 3.1 mile treadmill run/walk, leg day, 2.2 mile treadmill walk, 2.21 mile outdoor walk

Yay for a short week! I went to bed later than I like (after 10:30, yes I’m an early bird) on Sunday and I struggled getting out of bed Monday. But it’s a short week and only 2 days I have to get up before 5 a.m.! So I got up, did my leg workout, and then got in a run/walk on the treadmill. I also got in some walking on the treadmill AND outside later in the day.

Tuesday: 3.5 mile treadmill run, core, shoulder/tri workout, 2 mile treadmill walk on incline

The morning flew by! I was up later again on Monday after helping the kids pack and then think about my packing list (full disclosure – B did most of the kid packing), but was glad to get in some lifting and movement before our car trip.

Wednesday: Rest day! Only 7,350 steps or so.

Lots of time in the car on the way to Connecticut, with a little walking around Pennsylvania.

Thursday: Stratford Turkey Trot 5k, plus a short (2ish miles) treadmill run

Another year, another Turkey Trot tradition! My oldest and I did the 5K, while GM and LM did the kids fun run. Then, I was able to sneak in a short treadmill run while everyone relaxed.

Friday:  most of shoulder workout, plus 3.1 mi treadmill run

I didn’t expect to get in a workout before our car ride back to Cleveland, but whej B suggested I hit the hotel gym while the kids were still waking up, I jumped at the chance. I got in a short treadmill run and had time for part of a weight workout before starting our day. Before getting in the road, the big kids had fun in the hotel pool while GM and I played ping pong in the game room. He really wanted to swim, but can’t for 6 weeks since he had had surgery a week prior.

Saturday: 4 miles on the treadmill, finished shoulder workout and started back and bicep workout

We did not get home until late Friday night, so I didn’t get to bed until after midnight, so I was tired Saturday morning! I still got in a short treadmill workout before we went out to breakfast and then headed into the car for another trip – this time to meet up with B’s family for their annual post-Thanksgiving bowling outing.

Total: 26.73 miles running, plus walking and weights

Some questions for you:

  • Do you typically travel for Thanksgiving?
  • Did you Turkey Trot this year?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Congrats to the little Turkey Trotters! How fun and what a great tradition. I like the bowling tradition as well.

I’m so glad to see that you are back to full running form!

  2. Luckily I do not have to travel for TG — I just do grocery shopping and some of the cooking. 😉

Love that your whole family does a Turkey Trot! Your littles are so cute with their medals.

Yay for an injury-free November — that’s something to be grateful for!

  3. Way to go on the family turkey trot! We host so full house here. My travelers got stranded due to the snow and will not be able to get home until tomorrow. It’s all good! Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

  6. How fun that you all ran in the turkey trot – sounds like our family. It’s such a fun tradition!

We usually don’t travel for Thanksgiving, but occasionally go to one of our son’s houses for the weekend. Sounds like you had an enjoyable trip!

  7. The trotting tradition continues…I love it! Looks like you had a busy week, and did a great job getting in the workouts!

  8. We went bowling too! Since our scores were so low we decided we should all try bowling with the bumpers to see how high of scores we could get. haha! I should bowl more often, it’s so fun. Congrats to the littles on their Turkey Trot. You sure do make the most of your early mornings. Go you!

  9. As usual, you did a great job of getting workouts in during a busy week. I LOVE the family Turkey Trot! Your kids are so cute with their medals.

I didn’t travel for Thanksgiving OR do a Turkey Trot- but I did get up and run in the morning. I mean I have to do something before feasting.

  10. What a fun tradition. As I said before, you have to visit your parents in my area one holiday. And Text me.

So cute that your kids run too! A great family acitivity.

I did a 10k (as you know) and my hubby’s family is local.

  11. You made the most of the week, for sure!

We alternate traveling for Thanksgiving. Mr PugRunner is always about it, but then we go, and he’s all flustered that it’s not “traditional” and then we have to make it up. Too much hassle as far as I’m concerned.

I did a 5K turkey trot and it was fun!
