Snow Came, Left and Came Back.

Snow Came, Left and Came Back.

The title of this post pretty much sums up my week. Sunday started off with a snowstorm that I ran in. Then middle of the week the snow melted and I was lucky to get out for some walks. And then the snow came back, but with more – I’m talking about close to 2 feet! I must admit that I am much less likely to go outside and work out when it’s cold and snowy. This means fewer walks, and a lot of treadmill runs. Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 7ish snowy miles

I was looking forward to getting back into my routine of doing longer runs on Sundays, and after running outside on Saturday, was excited to do so on Sunday. Well, I woke up Sunday to a fresh coating of snow with more on the way! I decided to put on my Yaktrax and just get out there. I hadn’t done a snowy run all season, and it was about time, especially since fresh snow is typically the easiest for me to run on.

Was it a pretty run? Yes, it was! But was it easy? Not at all. It was cold, the snow was wet and heavy and kept getting stuck on my sneakers/spikes, and then it started snowing again during my run, and I hate when snowflakes get in my eyes. But was it better than the treadmill? Most likely!

Monday: 4.02 treadmill miles, 2.5 treadmill miles walking, back and bicep workout/started leg workout 1.85 mile outdoor walk

Back to our regularly programmed Mondays! It had snowed most of Sunday and gotten slippery, so I got in a treadmill workout and some weights before the day. That night was my book club! We had read Of Boys and Men, which I didn’t anticipate enjoying/finding so fascinating, but I really did. If you have sons, or even if you don’t, it’s an interesting look at how and why some boys are falling behind in society.

Tuesday: 4 treadmill miles, 2.5 treadmill miles walking

Time my alarm is set for: 4:20. Time I usually get out of bed: 4:30-4:45. Time I noticed my alarm going off today: 5:30. Whoops! I have no idea how I slept through more than an HOUR of my alarm! Yikes. I rushed downstairs and hopped on the treadmill and had time for 4 miles. At least it made me get in 4 miles without walking? No time for anything else, and then it was on with my day and onto the office. I’ll blame it on being out later on a Monday thanks to book club.

Wednesday: 5.55 mile treadmill run, 2 mile treadmill walk, leg and chest workout, push ups and core and ~3 mile outdoor walk at lunch

I woke up 5 minutes BEFORE my alarm – opposite of Tuesday! So I got out of bed when my alarm went off and ended up with time for 5+ miles on the treadmill, plus weights, and it was great. I wish every day started like this! I also had a coffee meeting early in the morning, which meant I got in a little dose of caffeine from a matcha to start my day — between the matcha and the run, I was feeling good. (I don’t drink coffee regularly, but caffeine is a nice treat sometimes!). I also got in a nice outdoor walk at lunchtime with my weighted vest! It was 40s out and I was enjoying the warmish weather before our coldfront (with more snow) crept in.

See the snow? No, because it all melted and i had enjoyed a glorious, snow-free walk!

Thursday: SNOW DAY! 5.5 mile treadmill run, .75 mile treadmill walk, push ups and core and shoulder workout

Well, the 40s and nice weather was gone – I woke up to almost 2 feet of snow and a snow day that was called after I started working out. While it would’ve been nice to sleep in (had I known we had a snow day a little earlier I would have), it was nice to get in a longer workout. I did almost 30 minutes of weights and then was on the treadmill for more than an hour between running and walking. I didn’t get in any other movement during the day – I spent most of the day entertaining the kiddos and working from home.

We got a lot of snow. But the kids loved playing in it!

Friday: 5.25 miles on the treadmill, back and bicep workout,1.25 mile treadmill walk

NO SCHOOL – and this time it was planned. SO I got to sleep in! I still had work so I only slept in until 5:45ish or so but it was GLORIOUS! I got in a longer-than-usual-on-weekdays run, some weights, and even a little treadmill walking, all before starting my day.

Saturday: 3.1 mile run on the treadmill plus 1.3 mile walk

I didn’t sleep well Saturday, and GM got up early, so I got up early and just got him and the kids ready for their day of sports. When B got up, I had time for a short treadmill run before our day began.

Total:  34.89 miles running, plus some walking and weights

Some questions for you:

  • How often do you run in the snow?
  • Did you get hit with snowy weather this week too?

Wow! We haven’t had that much snow since …. 2016? 😉 I hope your kids enjoy it!

I never run outside in the snow — too slick and I don’t have spikes for my running shows — but thankfully I have my tread!

I used to run outside in the snow a lot more, but now that I’m older I find that it does a number on my hips. And I’m also scared of sleeping!

I love to run in the snow! But what I don’t like is the cold and the wind that has plagued us all winter. My treadmill has gotten a lot of love this winter. Well ,maybe love is a little strong, but I am glad I have it. I even got a pair of spikes for Christmas but have yet to use them!

Nice job on completing those workouts last week while fitting them in around a busy schedule! Your alarm didn’t wake up your husband either?

I used to love running in the snow, especially fresh snow before it got slippery. Now I’d love to walk in it – if we were ever to get any. Now that I’m older, though, I’m much more cautious. Despite it snowing most of yesterday morning, it only stuck to the mulch.

wow you sure did get hit with the snow this week! We rarely get anything like that around here. The kids always love it and I’m sure yours were thrilled! Way to get in your workouts on a busy week with the kids

It’s crazy how much snow you have since I have barely a dusting here. I do have plenty of cold and wind, though (I think I might actually prefer snow, LOL).
