False Spring is my Fave

False Spring is my Fave

Yay for False Spring! We a little heat wave this week, which meant the snow melted and we were able to get outside for some walking and running. I only was able to run outside once, but it was great to be able to take walks during the day on sidewalks that weren’t covered in ice. I know we are due for more snow and ice in the coming week, so I am trying to enjoy the outside as much as I could.

This week again included a little sickness, a little running, and a little walking – here is what it included:

Sunday: 10.19 OUTDOOR miles

I did it! I got in a long run outside, for the first time since … gosh, sometime in 2025? And it was great! It was still icy in the paths that I like to run on usually for long runs, so I played it safe and stuck to the streets near my house. But it was still better (and faster) than on the treadmill!

Monday: 4.5 mile treadmill run/walk, core + leg workout, 1.5 m treadmill walk, 1.5 mile walk OUTSIDE

My legs were tired after my 10 miler so i took it easy with lots of walking and slow running, along with some weights. I also got in a walk OUTSIDE – it was almost 50 degrees (yay for false spring!) and since the kids were home from school, we got to walk as a family!

Tuesday: 3.5 mi treadmill run/walk, core and chest workout, 1ish mile walk outside

My legs and hip were still sore and it was the same spot they were sore last time before I was injured, so I decided to play it safe again with a run/walk – I got in 2.5 miles mostly running, 1 mile mostly walking with an incline and weighted vest, plus my core workout. I was working in the office and had meetings all over the place, so I got in plenty of steps during the day — and then I ended up walking to my book club because it was so nice outside at night!

Wednesday: 5 mile treadmill run, back and biceps, 2 mile treadmill walk with incline

I got in a core and weight workout, then checked the temperature and saw it was — nearly 50 degrees! I didn’t have time to get changed (I was in my indoor workout clothes) so I just hopped on the treadmill and vowed I’d get in a longer walk outside during the day. Well, that didn’t happen – guess who woke up sick? LM! She had a fever, so I took her in to see if she caught FW’s flu. And yes, she had – she tested positive for Flu B too 😦 Ugh! I would love a normal week sometime soon! So I was home working with her, and didn’t get outside to enjoy the warmer weather.

Thursday: 3.1 mile treadmill run/walk, 2.5 mile treadmill walk on an incline with weighted vest, ~3 miles walking outside with LM

I was working from home again with LM, but she was feeling okay and woke up semi-early, so we took a short walk in the morning before I started work. It was still relatively warm (48 degrees before 9 a.m.), so it was great to enjoy being outside before the cold winter weather returns! And bonus – most of our snow is finally melted! Then, at lunchtime we got in another walk – to pick up a sandwich and book for her. So we got in nearly 3 miles of walking outside together! So glad she is feeling a lot better.

Friday: 7 miles on the treadmill and 1 mile walk outside before work, then 2 mile lunchtime walk

TGIF! It was due to be a somewhat busy Friday (with not a lot of free time anticipated on the weekend), and I had to start getting ready earlier, so I decided to focus on just running during my Friday morning workout to clear my head before the day. Despite everything going on, I was able to get in 2 outdoor walks before the cold set in on the weekend! It has been so nice having the snow gone and the sidewalks, trails and grass clear to walk on again.

No more snow and barely any ice on the lake!

Unrelated to running, but Friday was also grants 100th day of preschool and they celebrated it with fun activities including having the kids dress up like 100-year-olds. He had so much fun and his class was so cute!

Saturday: 5 treadmill miles

We were back to our crazy weekend schedule (it included soccer at 8:50 and 10:30, a birthday party at 10, another birthday party at 12:30 (for my 4 yr old, so the parents had to stay), and a class party from 1-4), so I set my alarm to get in a run before work. GM ended up waking up and breaking up my workout but I still managed to get in 5 treadmill miles before the day.

Total: 38.29 miles running, plus some walking and weights

Some questions for you:

  • Do you typically run faster on a treadmill or outside?
  • Did it turn back into winter again near you? False spring was great, but we’re back to winter again!

I’m glad everyone is feeling better at your house! I saw a family in clinic last week for well child visits and the parents sprung the news on me that they all had been vomiting/diarrhea for a couple of days. THANKS FOR THAT! Had I known, I would have been wearing a mask. When I left the room, I bleach wiped my stethoscope and my hands, lol. I will be so glad when spring and summer are here, if for no other reason than this, lol.

Wasn’t that warm spell great? I was hoping it was going to be the end of my TM runs, but no, not yet. Your youngest looks adorable in his old man costume!!!

those days of the kids passing their germs around are rough! Glad everyone is feeling better and hope you don’t get it too. The warmer days were nice while they lasted. I definitely ran faster outside than on the TM. I could never seem to find my stride on the treadmill the same way and always disliked it.

You had quite a week! Yes I’ll bet a “normal” week would feel good- hope no one else gets sick.

I don’t run on a treadmill enough to really compare my paces- although I will say that when I do run on a treadmill I try to throw in some speedwork so it’s not too boring.

I know your winter weather returned! We’re getting some of the cooler air down here as well and I’m all for it. I’m not ready for the heat of summer yet!

I was in Florida so I missed any warm up… it’s back to winter here.

I never run on the tm but when I did I was way slower.

Hope your daughter is feeling better. FluA was pretty rampid up here.

I have not been on a treadmill in well over a year, but I well remember how different TM running is to outdoor running. I think I run about the same pace, but it feels SO MUCH harder. One time I ran a 10K virtual race on the TM, and it took me almost 10 minutes longer and felt like I was sprinting the entire distance.

We were in Florida during most of Virginia’s false spring, but did get to enjoy one day of it.

Sorry to hear that your daughter caught her brother’s flu. Here’s hoping your kiddos don’t come down with anything else this winter.

Well dang, I spoke too soon last week that the flu wasn’t passed around at your house. So sorry to hear it! I love the 100 year old outfit. My kids glued 100 things to their shirts on their 100th day in grade school. Luckily we had a lot of craft stuff around the house back then!

I typically run faster outside vs my treadmill!

Ugh about more flu! There’s so much stuff going around at this time of the year, I hope the rest of the family stays well. What a treat for you to get some proper outdoor time without snow!

Gosh, I hope the flu doesn’t keep going around your house. At least so far your kids have shaken it off quickly.

I definitely run faster on the tread!
