April came in with strong showers

April came in with strong showers

Happy Easter!

I took it easy again this week. Walking and lifting, with no real running. I find that I enjoy my walks, and don’t want him having the time to myself. It’s a different sort of exercise, but I’m glad to still be able to move. We had some crazy storms this week, and a tornado watch that sent us all in the basement to wait it out. I didn’t mind having the treadmill to walk on for these days!

Here is what the week looked like:

Sunday: 6.14 outdoor miles walking

Sunday morning I was still at my friend’s house, and I woke up before she and my other friend did again, so I got out for a long walk before our day. I walked from her house to the Crossings, an area of Upstate NY with a few trails, and walked a little around there before walking back to her house.

Small lake at The Crossings

Monday: 4.6 miles of outdoor walking

The fact that I got in this walk at all was a big thing to celebrate. I had an 8-hour car trip back to Cleveland that was going to start early, so I assumed I wouldn’t have time to get in any steps. Thankfully, I was able to fit in some walking between the car trip, work, and getting the kids to their activities — I have no idea how it happened, but it was so nice out that I’m glad I was able to make it work! (bonus points because one of the walks was TO a kiddo playdate, with the kids!)

Tuesday: 5.7 miles treadmill walking, 2.07 mile outdoor walk, chest/tri and some core

OH I was so tired! After not much sleep over the weekend and a long drive the day before, it finally hit me. I rolled out of bed later than anticipated, so after I did my chest/tri workout I didn’t have too much time. I did a few core exercises and then hit the treadmill for a short walk. I did get in more treadmill walking later, as well as a short walk with GM before school to grab bagels before our favorite bagel shop closes for Passover week!

Wednesday: 6.75 mile treadmill walk with incline, core, shoulder workout, some back and biceps

Wednesday walking day? JK – I woke up and it was pouring out, so I got in a short core workout, some weights, and then the treadmill walking. I didn’t run at all! I had been tempted to Tuesday when the weather was nice, but today I just used my laptop to catch up on a few things while walking. I had meetings from 12-4, so no lunchtime walk for me!

Thursday: 5.25 mile treadmill walk on an incline, core workout, back and bicep workout, some leg workout, 1.2 mile walk outside

I did a short core workout, some weights and then more treadmill walking. Noticing a pattern? I did get in a short walk at lunchtime, which I hadn’t done in a while! It was 70 degrees!

Friday: 5.55 mile outdoor walk, then 1.81 mile walk, then 1 mile walk later

The kids were off school, so I was able to wake up a little later. I decided to go for a walk outside because it was 65° when I woke up! It started out dark, but as I was walking the sun rose for a beautiful start to my morning. I passed a lot of trees down from our crazy storms earlier in the week.

LI also got in a ~2 mile walk to my in-laws, where we were headed to decorate eggs. Then, I got in a walk with LM to mail a birthday card for my brother. Lots of walking on a gorgeous day!

Saturday: 6.78 outdoor miles walking

I slept in until nearly 7 (!) and got out for a long walk before our day started. On my walk, I wore my weighted vest and saw several black squirrels! I don’t often see black squirrels around where I live (they’re across town and some other parts of Northeast Ohio usually) but today they were all around during my walk, in several locations. FW’s soccer ended up being cancelled because the rains earlier in the week left a big muddy field, so the rest of the day included some spring cleaning, a playdate, laundry and piano lessons.

So many black squirrels!

Total: Lots of walking and weights again this week

Some questions for you:

  • Did you have any crazy storms this week?
  • What color are the squirrels near you? I always thought my squirrels growing up were brown, but in Upstate NY and Boston they’re grey! They’re brown (and black!) In Cleveland.

We have mostly gray squirrels, but in the preserve where i run, I see grey, brown, and black with equal frequency. I have read that their are albino squirrels, but I have yet to see one. We have too many squirrels here and they are fat because some people (my neighbors) feed them old bread. Grrrrr….

We had that crazy bad weather here too and lots of rain as well. I’m heading out to run this morning in the woods-I’m sure I’ll come back with very wet feet!

    Happy Easter!

Oh i saw an albino squirrel a few times – there was one near where i grew up! It has been a while though since I saw one!

You sure are getting in a lot of miles walking.

That looks like a huge tree down.

We mostly have grey squirrels but I’ve seen a very albinos and black ones. Right now we have a grey squirrel with a completely white tail.

Hope your family has a nice Easter!

A gray one with a white tail? So cool!

The squirrels where I grew up are a red’ish brown, bu they’re gray where I live now. When I was coaching marathoners over in Maryland I saw my first black squirrel and was super excited to see it – I didn’t even know there were black squirrels. My runners must have thought I was nuts, especially since I soon noticed that all of the squirrels were black there. LOL

Happy Easter! Our 7:30 mass was super crowded with standing room only this morning. I usually go to it when I can’t make it to 5:30 PM on Saturday and it’s never crowded. Luckily, I anticipated it might be crowded and arrived plenty early.

Wow! You went to 8:00 a.m., but it wasn’t super crowded. 10 a.m. usually really crowded. And Christmas mass, that is always standing room!

We have had some odd storms and weather as well but mostly it is warmer than normal around here. WE have tons of squirrels around here and they are not my favorite. Hope you have a nice Easter with your family

The absence of running is not keeping you away from getting a lot of miles in! Way to keep it up! There is one area of town that has a black squirrel, but not close to us. So fun to see them! We did see white squirrels in North Carolina on vacation. That was quite a sight!

I had never seen black squirrels until we moved to Michigan. They were the norm in the East Lansing area (as well as grey, brown & albinos).

    where did my comment go?

The Crossings and you didn’t call me? Kidding.

Lots of rain off and on even thunderstorms one day.

Lots of walking miles but I bet you’ll be back to running soon.

I think our squirrels are gray?

    1. Melissa (I Crashed the Web) Avatar

Yes you have gray squirrels!! I always thought they were brown. I was in town staying with a friend for a funeral- really didn’t do much else sadly. One of these days!
