WIAW #28: Camping Eats

It’s Wednesday…which means it’s not only Hump Day but it’s also What I Ate Wednesday!

I’m pretty excited to share with you something completely different for me – today, I’m sharing food from Saturday, when B and I went camping! That’s right, all of these meals are from my time in the woods.

For breakfast, B made some bacon and eggs over the campfire. Plus some freshly “toasted” bread. And grapes. Not a bad way to start the day!

We took a pretty long hike and by the time we stopped for lunch, i was starving!  We ended up stopping along the route and eating on a rock with a great view. Bread, cheese, veggies and meat sticks for lunch. Easy, and packed in a backpack!

Here’s a pic of our lunch WITH the view:

Dinner was once again over the campfire. While B was preparing it, I snacked on some more veggies and cheese and grapes. Come on, you didn’t think we ate ALL of that for lunch, did you?

MORE CHEESE!
MORE CHEESE!

And dinner was SO perfectly cooked. I don’t know how he did it, but we had potatoes, onions and steak – all made over the campfire. Such a good dinner!

Oh and don’t worry – we also roasted marshmallows over the fire for dessert. I had two…or four or five.

Some questions for you:

  1. Do you like s’mores?
  2. What is a typical “camping” meal for you?
  3. How do you like your steak? I like mine rare 🙂

Yumm!!! I’ve only been camping once, so most of my outdoor food packing has been for wineries 😉 haha I love packing bread, cheese, and fruit! Those are some of my favorites 🙂

What a beautiful view from your lunch spot. Nothing beats a campfire when you are camping. Your meals look like gourmet camp food…yum! I remember having this tripod toast device that would toast bread over the fire or stove. It was a go to for breakfast or dinner sandwiches for easy camp meals.

You and B are quite the experienced grillers outdoors. Can I join your trip next time? I want to eat four or five s’mores 🙂

I ❤ camping food. This looks like a great trip. I think I'm with Jessie. I'd like to tag along to learn something from you about camping food. I do love s'mores. I'm hoping to go backpacking next week, or at least send my brother and sister backpacking, so I will have to get really creative. The hard thing about backpacking is that you have to pack light, energy dense food. Hmm….

Camping meals for us growing up were always CHILI. Nothing like canned chili reminds me more of childhood camping trips with my dad.

Yum! I love chili, I never would have thought to have it camping! I never went camping growing up, so who knows what we would have eaten in my house

Those meals are AWESOME! That bacon looks so delish, the steak is perfect and the loaf of bread and hunks of cheese- yes please!

Such awesome meals. I love “snack packs” like that — and I eat grapes out of the bag allll the time. They’re such a great snack. That scenery too! Wow. I’m not a huge camping fan but hiking? I’m in.
