Adios July

I can’t believe I am sharing my JULY RECAP right now. How did July go by so fast? Ugh. I’m a broken record – every month in the summer goes by too fast for me!

July was a good month in terms of running. I was able to get in about 130 running miles, including stroller run! I also got in a swim, a lot of walking miles, and core workouts almost every week day. Writing that all out makes me feel pretty accomplished – I’ll take it! Especially with a busy month, which included traveling to Upstate NY, Philadelphia, and lots of weekend activities including family visits, visiting friends, GM’s birthday party, etc.

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 6.02 miles. I was especially pleased to get in a full 6 mile run – it felt good to start my week on the right foot!

Monday: 5 miles miles run plus core workout. I find that I feel my best after getting in a 5 mile run, and was pleased to get one in on a Monday.

Tuesday: 4.18 mile run plus core workout. Pretty standard run and core workout, but hit snooze a lot.

Wednesday:  5.01 mile run plus core workout, plus 1.25 mile walk later in the day. I was glad to get in 5 miles, and then a walk later in the day. I love my mid-day walks outside, even if they’re quick!

Thursday:  4.52 miles and core workout, then ~2 mile walk later in the day. I couldn’t fit in a full 5 miles because I had to head home so B could get in his workout before we started our days. But I did get in a walk later in the day, which was great!

Friday: 5ish mile run  I got up early before an early dr appointment. I knew I wouldn’t have time for a core workout and 5 miles, so I ended up only running. It was a good choice, and I felt good during most of the workout.

Saturday: 3.1 miles run then 1 mile walk B needed to return a tool he had borrowed from our local tool library by 9, so I only had about 30 minutes to get in a run so he could use it again/return it. It made me go “fast” and I did my 5K with under 10 minute miles the whole time. I also got in a 1 mile walk with the kiddos while B was working.

Total mileage: 32.84 miles run

  1. You had a great month, especially with all those trips! Did you have different routes for your different mileage or do you do out and backs?

    I think my favorite book this summer was Demon Copperhead, but I’ve read a few good ones!

  2. I agree, a 5 mile run feels really good. I only had time for 3.1 miles this morning- why does it sound better if I say I ran a 5k???
    I’ve read a lot of great books this summer! I’m currently finishing up The Ender Saga by Orson Scott Card, and I’ve loved the entire series.

  3. Summer always goes way too fast and like I tell my patients who complain about having to go back to school: it’s hard being a grown up in the summer. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten used to having to work in the summer! Enjoy these last couple of weeks!

    I just finished reading Last Summer on State Street by Toya Wolfe, which was really good but heartbreaking too. I’ve read some other really good books lately.

  4. What an impressive week you had with running every day!
    My July hasn’t been great but it can only get better from here…
    I’ve been reading an interesting book about neuroplasticity in the brain and learning music. It talks about how learning new things keeps the brain developing and keeps the brain fresh – and also smashes the myth of “talent”. But most of all it gives interesting insight about how we learn. “The laws of brainjo” by Josh Turknet, highly recommended for everyone who is learning to play a musical instrument. Now I’ve started reading “Born to run”.

  5. Aw, those deer are so cute! Great month and week. I enjoyed Demon Copperhead and Those Who Have Never Known Men (it was a weird one.) Reading “Horse” now by Geraldine Brooks, so far, its interesting.

    Way to get it all done! Very consistent.
