One More Week

One More Week

I’m off to Orlando for work! This week is our annual meeting and today I fly to Florida TODAY (yes, Mother’s Day) for a somewhat intense week of lots of time in a conference room and behind-the-scenes and backstage to make the week a success! It is a tiring but rewarding week. And something we’ve been working on for several months, so each day is really fun to see come together.

It is also one more week until my half marathon! Eek!

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 8.28 mile run, hip PT exercises and pickleball!

I set my alarm for to get up a little early to get in a longish run before LM had to be at softball at 9 a.m. I was about 6 miles in, when I got the text that softball was cancelled – so I could’ve slept in! But you know what? I didn’t mind – that meant I could take my time coming home (so I did end up walking some), and when I got home I was able to do some PT, plus laundry, cleaning and some baking! I made muffins for snacks this week and a banana cake for us to bring to dinner at B’s inlaws. GM had a banana cake at a birthday party recently and had been asking for one since. Later in the day, the whole family went out and played some pickleball at some courts nearby. It was fun!

Monday: 3.33 miles treadmill walking (with a little jogging in there), weighted core workout, shoulder workout and 2.76 mile walk

The weather looked actually okay for a run outside, but I am trying to be better about taking it easier on my body. So I stayed inside to do some core work, weights and a walk/jog (mostly walk) on the treadmill. I also got in a walk mid-day – it was beautiful out!

Tuesday: 3.2 miles walking/running, short core workout, back/bicep workout, hip PT, 3.1 mile indoor treadmill walking

Monday night FW had a soccer game, so I didn’t get to bed until later than I would have liked, and woke up TIRED Tuesday! Instead of getting out of bed, I scrolled my phone for too long and ended up with less time than I would have liked to work out. I got in a short core video, back/bicep weights, and then a short run/walk outside with finishing up on the treadmill.

Work was busy and I had meetings during lunchtime so I didn’t get to take my outdoor walk, but I did get some walking in on the treadmill while working/proofreading! It was slow so I could concentrate on work, but I’ll take it! We had a soccer game that night for my oldest and we caught a rainbow in the way there!

Wednesday: 3.6 miles walking/running, core workout, leg workout , 3.33 indoor treadmill walking

I woke up and my legs were still a little fatigued from my long run Sunday, so I took it easy on the running. I also got in a core workout, and walking while working again.

Thursday: 8.16 mile outdoor run, 1.6 treadmill miles while working, hip PT

I set an early alarm to get in another 9-10+ mile run, but it didn’t happen. I could barely get out of bed. When I did get out for my run, I almost turned home at 2 miles – I was just SO TIRED, ugh! I am glad I continued, but I didn’t make it past 8 miles – I went out too late, was going too slow, and it was time to get home. I didn’t have time for a lunch walk, but luckily got in some walking while working to move a little bit during my crazy day. My hip was bothering me later in the day, so after the kids went to bed, I did some hip PT exercises.

Friday: 3.75 miles treadmill walking, core workout, hip PT, 1.75 miles walking while working

After Thursday’s “failed” longer run, I decided to keep it simple and stick to walking, core and PT.

Saturday: 10.02 mile outdoor run and hip PT

Long run attempt take 2 – success!! Somewhat at least. My body was tired and I really had a hard time keeping up with my breathing, but I got it in! It was hard and slow, and I honestly can’t imagine doing 3 more next weekend, but at least I got it in.

Geese and goslings on my run!

The rest of the day included soccer, a baseball game, 2 birthday parties and a sleepover — and a little working to prep for my upcoming trip.

Watching him pitch is nerve-wracking

Total: 32.44 miles running, walking, then weights again this week

Some questions for you:

  • Do you travel for work/have you?
  • Do you ever walk on a treadmill while working? Do you have a walking pad – and if so, do you recommend it? I just use my treadmill but it would be nice to have a walking pad in my office 🙂

What a busy week, Melissa! I don’t know how you do it all. I have traveled for work–usually it’s for an educational conference, but last year was my first actual trip for a project I’m involved with for my company. Have a great trip.

    Happy Mother’s Day!

Sorry you have to travel for work on Mother’s Day! That’s a bummer. I don’t think I could walk on a tread or walking pad while I work, although I do pace around when I’m practicing a presentation.

I’m sure the race day energy will carry you through the extra miles!

That sounds like a great week for you! How is the hip feeling now? I hope it will behave for the half marathon!

I’ve been thinking a lot about walking pads recently after a very wet winter and spring with lots of bad weather, and I need to walk more. Perhaps I’ll look them up on YouTube for people’s experiences.

Melissa, reading about this is making me tired! I like how on a day you were exhausted and got up late, you “only” ran 5k, did a core, back and biceps workout and hip PT. When I accidentally sleep in, I do nothing. Anyway… you had a lot of running. keep up those PT exercises (I know you will!) Have fun in Orlando, and Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Busy week! Nice job getting it all in. Also, smart move listening to your body and cutting the first long run short. I hope your travels go well, and Happy Mother’s Day!

Hope you had a nice Mother’s Day before you had to fly to Florida. Enjoy your trip!

A walking pad under a standing desk sounds like a great way to get steps in while working. One of my clients has a walking pad and really likes it.

I avoid the treamill like the plague.

Yes I travel for work but not as much as before the pandemic.

I was supposed to run 9 on Saturday but it was raining so I postponed it to Sunday but too tired to get more than 6 . It will have to be enough since my race is in one week too.

Hope you hip is feeling better.
