Mini Fall Break

My hip continues to feel pretty good, but I’m still taking it easier than I normally would this time of year with this glorious running weather. That said, this week included some outdoor runs, run/walks, walks and even a fall hike. Plus, the kids had off 2 days of school, which meant I also had a mini break – a break in terms of my early workouts and weights. While I didn’t get in as much weight training, I was able to sleep in some and get in a run when it wasn’t pitch black – winning! We also enjoyed a fall hike AND Halloween this week. How fun!

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 6.22 mile run and hip PT

With my parents in town and no sports until the afternoon, I was able to get in a “long” run during daylight! This was my longest run in a few weeks since my hip was bothering me, and I enjoyed the sunshine and fall colors.

Monday: 4.55 miles run/walk, hip PT, shoulder workout, 6.15 miles walking

I was feeling tired and wanted to make sure my hip was good after my Sunday “long” run, so I kept it easy in terms of mileage. 4.55 walking/running miles in the morning, plus some walking during the day on the treadmill and outside.

Tuesday: 4.11 mile run, hip PT, back and bicep workout, 3.2 miles walking

I woke up to 50 degrees and was excited to get outside! But GM had other plans. He woke up at 4 and wouldn’t go back to bed. I tried a few times to put him back to sleep, then eventually gave up and got in my run but by then I didn’t have as much time as usual. I also got in a little walking during the day as well.

Wednesday: 5.04 mile run outside, hip PT, leg workout, plus 1.1 mi treadmill walking

Ack! I slept through my alarm! Well more accurately, I forgot to set my alarm the night before. Whoops! I woke up at 6 and somehow made it out the door to get in 4 miles. GM was home from school, so I did my hip PT and then got in a short walk with him.

Thursday:  6.32 miles running, hip PT, 1 mile walk

Slept in!! It was so nice to sleep in until 6:30 and get in a run with partial daylight. Since the kids were off school, I was able to sleep in and get in a run before B left for work. I was home with GM and LM, so we spent the morning at Skyzone where I got in nearly an hour of trampoline time, then we walked to the library and got in some time there together. It was so much fun to spend the day with them!

I had book club that night, and brought some nutella brownies, plus these cute candy corn sugar cookies. I think they came out great 🙂

Friday: 7.32 miles running, hip PT, 2.94 mile hike

The kids AND B had off school and I got to sleep in AGAIN – WINNING! I slept in even more and got in a long-ish run before we all went for a fall hike. We have been going to Squires Castle in Northeast Ohio nearly every year since FW was little, so it has become a fall tradition to go there, hike and view the fall leaves. This year, LM suggested we bring a picnic lunch, which was perfect. Then, we headed to Patterson’s orchard to pick up some pumpkins and carved them later.

Saturday: 6.65 mile run, hip PT, some chest workout

Having 2 days off in the end of the week and then a Saturday for Halloween was truly the best! I slept in again, and got in a beautiful run during the daylight. My Garmin tried to tell me that I needed rest because I hadn’t been sleeping well, which may have been the case, but the cooler temps and beautiful foliage definitely motivated and I felt good during the full run. Just a few hip twinges, but I am keeping up with the hip PT.

I also got in plenty of walking that night – for Halloween! I LOVE our neighborhood for Halloween. The street is closed off to traffic, and the street next to me goes all out with decor, etc. and people come from all over to see it. Since a lot of families park on our street, we get around 800ish or so trick-or-treaters (the street behind us gets 1,000-2,000!). It’s nonstop!

Total: 39.22 miles running, walking, hip PT and weight training

Some questions for you:

  • Any fall hiking?
  • Are you looking forward to fall back?
