Clear and Chilly

Yikes, where did December go? I took off of writing last week, because I was out of town. My dad had open heart surgery and I went out to NYC to be with him for the procedure. He is doing well thankfully, and I’m back in Cleveland while my mom helps him recover.

This week was back to normal with my schedule but we had a few activities going on – Monday FW had basketball and soccer and LM had ballet. Wednesday GM had his holiday concert at school and FW had soccer. Thursday FW had his school holiday concert. Friday LM and I went to the Nutcracker. Saturday included a visit with Santa and FW’s soccer game. But ‘tis the season – lots going on, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I was still able to stay pretty active and get in some miles. I had a hard time getting out of bed most mornings, so I didn’t get in as long of a run as I would’ve liked (5 miles is my happy morning “easy” run), but the weather was clear, so I still got out each day in the cold.

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 6.2 miles – After landing back in CLE Saturday night, it was nice to get in a nice 10K to start my Sunday. I felt surprisingly good and ran it fast (for me). B went to the Browns game with a friend so I was home with the kids most of the day and was glad to have gotten a chance to be active before a day with the three of them.

Monday: 5.1 miles and core work – Back to reality and waking up early after a week of sleeping in to 6 a.m. in NY! It was also cold and dark, but as always, I was grateful to be out there.

Tuesday: 4.25 miles and core work –  I struggled to get out of bed, but made it happen.

Wednesday: 4.58 miles and core work – We had our office party at lunch, so I wanted to get into work a little early to be productive before. This meant I didn’t quite finish the run I wanted to, but was glad for another clear day.

Thursday: 4.54 miles and core work – I was cold, but again, grateful for no snow!

Friday: 5.04 miles and core work – It was a teeny bit warmer (in the upper 30s vs. lower30s)

Saturday: 5.25 miles – On Saturdays, I get to run during the daylight and I love every minute of it. It was another warmish morning and I was so glad to take advantage of clear skies and clear roads. I spent some time on some local trails too, which were peaceful.

Questions for you:

  • Do you have some time off for the holidays?
  • Any upcoming travel planned?

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

I’m so glad to hear your dad is recovering well. It’s hard to see our parents so vulnerable, isn’t it?

Looks like you got some good miles in even though things are busy! We need those runs!

You certainly got right back to it after your return. Glad to hear that your dad is doing well and recovering. It is hard to watch our parents age!

Yes, it’s a crazy month- but a fun one. Nice job on getting out there for those runs! So glad your dad is doing well.
To answer your question, I have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off, but that’s it. It’s okay though because with my daughter off of school for two weeks, it will feel like a vacation! I hope you have some time off work while your kids are home.

I’m happy to hear all went well for your dad and that you could be with him too. You had a good week of consistent running!
I’ll probably do some work during the holidays but that’s because I’m trying to start freelancing – and I’m definitely taking time off during the actual Christmas holiday.

Very nice! I am so glad your dad is doing well and that you were able to be with him. I’m sure that made your heart happy.

I will be able to take some breaks through the end of the year, and we are going to the Keys to celebrate Mr. PugRunner’s 50th. It’s going to be fun.

I’m glad you were able to be with your Dad and that he is doing well!

I’ll take off a few days next week, but mostly am hoping to get caught up and organized for the new year.
