Is it Spring?

Could spring finally truly be here? We had a week with spring-like temperatures, rain, and some warmer days! I know it could turn at any moment, but it was great to run outside and enjoy what felt like FINALLY spring! It was so nice that I ran outside FIVE days this week – the first time since December I’ve been able to get outside for that many days!

Here’s how it looked:

Sunday: 2.27 outdoor mile run, chest and tri workout, 2.62 mile airport walk – I honestly didn’t expect to get in ANY run on Sunday! I had an early wake up and then headed to the airport after my quick girls’ weekend in NYC, and then came home to the kids, and a few activities (including my son’s first school baseball game). But I got to the airport so early, that I was able to get in a walk around the airport (yes, I had my GPS on ;)). Then, I got home to 60 degrees! It had been 30s and rainy in NY, so I immediately went for a short run at home before we started the day. Later in the day, I also got in a short walk with the kids around Daffodil Hill!

Monday: Chest and tricep workout, DR Core, 4.66 mile outdoor run, .87 mile walk – For the past few weeks, I’ve been sneaking in a weight workout on Sunday to kick start my week. Thanks to my weekend away, that didn’t happen, so my Monday started with my shoulder and leg workout, some diastasis recti core exercises, and then I was able to get in an outdoor run. My legs were tired, but it was nice to be outside in just a vest and capris! Later that night, we all got in a short family walk, which we haven’t done in ages!

Tuesday: Back and bicep workout, start of shoulder and leg workout, DR core, 5 outdoor miles – with negative splits, 3.3 miles walking while working on treadmill – I was hoping to do my tempo run/speed workout for the week, but my legs were tired. So I told myself to do it, but just start slow and get progressively faster each mile. That’s a thing, right? Miles 2-3 are always the hardest for me because they both have some uphills and when I’m trying to go faster, it makes it hard! But then the last mile(s) aren’t typically that bad. I was aiming for 40 minutes/4ish miles, but I finished at 4.6 and decided to keep going. I made it! Later in the day I was lucky to get in some walking on the treadmill while working.

Wednesday: Finished back and bicep workout, leg day, diastasis recti abs, 3.1 mile treadmill run, 2.5 mile treadmill walk while working. My legs were a little sore, so I took it easy. Finished my back/bicep workout, did some leg work (ok maybe that’s not taking it easy), did my DR workout and then a short slow treadmill run. I also did some walking while working.

Thursday: 3.33 treadmill run, more DR abs, 2.6 mile treadmill walk while working – My legs were feeling a little tired today so I decided to take it somewhat easy. I got in a DR workout, then a 3.33 mile run. I was later able to get in 3ish miles on the treadmill while working.

Friday: 11 outdoor miles – The kids were off school, which meant I could sleep TWO hours later and still get in a long run. It was glorious! I went outside with the goal of 10 miles and midway through the run I did some runner math and got confused — I thought I had to run 9, then remembered 10, but then somehow ended my run with 11. My brain doesn’t always work in the middle of a run, and this was prime example – but I’m so glad I got in 11! I was THIRSTY by the time I finished and gobbled down some water and granola I had recently made the second I came in the door.

The flowers/buds were blooming outside!

Later in the day, we went over to my inlaws’ house to decorate some Easter eggs while th kids were off school. It’s a fun tradition that we do every year.

Saturday: 4.18 outdoor miles – My legs and feet were TIRED from Friday’s long run, but it was 70 degrees and B convinced me that I should go out for a run. So I did! I made it out and back just before a thunderstorm came through – phew!

Total:  33.62 miles running plus weight training.

  • How’s your weather been? It is finally spring here! Some windy mornings but I was able to run outside 5/7 days this week!
  • Do you celebrate Easter? Any fun plans? We’ll do Mass, an Easter egg hunt and a brunch. Growing up half my dad’s side of the family celebrated Passover, so some years I was able to go to a seder AND celebrate Easter!

I am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Hooray for running outside! You know I almost always run outside–it’s a lot nicer when the weather is mild. It’s still so windy, tho.

I miss those days when my boys were little and we did all the holiday things. I still do little Easter baskets for them, tho!

You had a great week of workouts as usual, Melissa! Great job on the Friday long run and going longer than planned. Yes, I agree that running math is hard! LOL

Happy Easter to you and your family!

some years I celebrate both and this year neither. it’s been pretty cold here until yesterday. So we are behind in signs of spring. kudos on a good week of running especially with school break.

Happy Easter! We don’t celebrate in a religious way, but my daughter still gets an Easter basket and a little egg hunt (ha, she’s 16!) And I’ll make a special dinner.

Sounds like you had a great week. You never know- spring could be here to stay. It is the end of April! Or, you could get dumped on by one last snowstorm (no, no… that won’t happen.) Enjoy your day!

I’m so glad you finally have spring weather! That tree in bloom looks glorious. And finally some good outdoor running!

I don”t really celebrate Easter anymore but my husband cooked a wonderful lamb shank in the barbecue so maybe that counts!

Nice that you were able to get in a run in that nice weather on Sunday. Our weather people have just about promised that it won’t get cold again, but usually there is some risk of a freeze/frost until mid-May.Those trees are so pretty. We’re seeing the last of the blooming trees right now.

LOL on giving your legs a break with a strength workout or a run — uummm???

    Happy Easter!

So many great runs this week!

Would you believe that we didn’t even bother to dye eggs this year? I just wasn’t into it. We did make deviled eggs, though and that was fun.

So glad you had some down time with the family!
