June Virtual Coffee Date

Wow, I cannot believe it has been SIX months since my last virtual coffee date. Where has the time gone? There’s been a lot going on in our lives, but of course everything seems pretty much the same, but with warmer weather, woohoo! So today, I’m joining Coco and Deborah for their virtual coffee today, while also sharing a fitness update for a fitness linkup.  So, if we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that …

I’d tell you that today was the last day of school, and I have all the feelings. I’m so ready for summer, but also a little emotional because we said goodbye to our preschool for good. My four-year-old is officially done, and that chapter is closed. We’ve been part of that preschool community for almost 10 years with all three kids, which feels wild. It has been such a special place for our family, and we’ll miss it!

I’d tell you that summer is my favorite season, and I say that every single year without fail. I love the longer days, the warmer weather, the extra sunlight, and yes, the chance to sleep in a little. It’s just so much better for me and my running – our schedule isn’t as crazy in the mornings and there’s more light. While the weather isn’t always the best for running, it’s my favorite season to get outside!

sunrise runs are the best!

I’d tell you that things are just a little busy right now. I really thought things would slow down once school ended, but that is definitely not the case. We jumped right into baseball and softball season, and this weekend we’re wrapping up soccer with a tournament. And because apparently we like to stay busy, swimming lessons start next week for LM and GM, four days a week. So much for a slow start to summer!

I’d tell you that I’m still navigating my hip injury. I was diagnosed with a torn hip labrum back in April, but thankfully I was cleared to still run the Cleveland Half Marathon in May, even with very little training leading up to it. It wasn’t my strongest race, but I did better than I thought I would! Now I’m in a bit of a maintenance phase, trying to keep running, stay consistent with my hip PT, and actually remember to take rest days so I can stay healthy and keep running through the summer. I had a follow-up appt with my sports medicine doctor this week, and he said my right hip is still weak, but it was a lot stronger than when I first visited him 2 months ago, so the PT is definitely helping! He told me I can keep running and to keep my hip strength up. But I have been loving my early morning runs now that it is daylight– and hope to keep doing them!

I’d tell you that I’m determined to make better use of our outdoor projector this summer. We have it, we love it, and yet we barely use it because summer always flies by. I told B that I want to host an outdoor movie night once a month and invite friends and family. It just feels like the perfect easy summer tradition. Now I just need to decide what our first movie should be! Oh, and find some dates we Don have baseball or softball or swimming … etc.

I’d tell you that B and I have something really exciting coming up. We are taking a vacation without kids to celebrate our 15-year anniversary! The last time we got away together was two years ago for my birthday, and we went to Florida where it rained and was somehow in the 40s. I’m really hoping we get a little more cooperative weather this time around. No matter what, though, I am so excited for some time away together.

this was from our last solo trip – more than a year ago!

I’d tell you that we still need to plan a family trip this summer. I need to get something on the calendar, especially for the weeks when the kids don’t have any childcare. I’m torn between taking them to the ocean since they’ve never seen it, which feels like such a core memory kind of trip, and planning a city adventure since I love exploring new places. I’m sure I’ll decide soon, but for now I keep going back and forth.

last year we were in Boston as a family at this time!

That’s what’s going on in my world right now! Questions for you:

  • Are you in full summer mode yet?
  • If you host outdoor movie nights, what is your go to first movie of the season?
  • Beach vacation or city trip, what would you choose?
  • Do your summers tend to slow down or somehow get even busier once school is out?

Welcome to I Crashed The Web — proof that I’ve been oversharing online since the early days of blogging. It started as a blog (back when that was cool), morphed into a mom blog (when that was cool), and now it’s my happy place for all the things I love: running, baking, reading, traveling and life with my family of five.
