We may-d (made) it!

WE MADE IT! That’s right MAYCEMBER as it is so fondly called on social media, has ended. We survived the madness!

School doesn’t actually end here until NEXT WEEK (first year in a while that we have to go into June), so there’s still some more end of year activities, and LM’s first softball game, but I have my eye on the prize — which is June and the end of school!

Since May is over, here’s what it looked like:

  • the return to running! I got in 108+ miles this month, which is low for me overall but higher than my last two months!
  • hip physical therapy – I’ve been doing it 3+ times a week, and most weeks more!
  • the return to weight lifting – I stopped for a few weeks while I was trying to figure out what was going on with my body, then it was my work trip, then it was the marathon week – but this week I’m back! (and sore!)

This week, I kept up my early morning workouts, but the sun was rising earlier and earlier so it was light by the end of my runs and I loved it!

Here’s what the week looked like … I’ll share a May recap next week most likely because I still have to get in my Sunday workout

Sunday:

Happy birthday to my daughter! She turned 8 and I wanted to get in a run before she woke up. I set my alarm, got in a nice outdoor run, and was home just as she had woken up. It was the best! The rest of the day included some fun with my parents, a walk to a store for her to buy a toy/stuffie, and a birthday party with her friends. We were worried it was going to rain for most of the day, but it ended up being clear in the morning and only a few drizzles for her party, so we were able to have the girls outside on the porch to do crafts and in the garage for an outdoor movie. It was definitely a successful birthday!

Monday:

Even though we had the day off, I still wanted to get my alarm set and get in my workout before my parents woke up, so I could see them before they left. I got in a short run, and then did my chest/tricep workout and then it was time to start our day! The day included a walk to and from the Memorial Day parade, as well as some time at my in-laws’ house. The weather finally cleared up and we had a beautiful sunny day!

Tuesday: 3.1 miles mostly walking, shoulder and leg workout, hip PT

I decided to take it easy and get in a little run/walk before my weight workout. Later in the day, I had some time to get in my hip PT exercises as well.

Wednesday: 3.24 mile run/walk, back and bicep workout, started leg workout, core workout, hip PT, 3.87 miles walking during the day

Tuesday night we had baseball, and by the time we got home, the kids ate something and FW showered, it was late! I woke up POOPED on Wednesday. I still got outside for a short run, after doing some weights and core. I also got in a few hip PT exercises before work. During the day, I got in a walk at lunch and some treadmill walking later — this totaled 3.87 miles, which was a nice add on!

Thursday: 3.75 mile jog outside, finished leg workout, core workout, hip PT, 2.8 mile stroller walk outside, 1.5 mile treadmill walk while working

After my leg workout, my legs were TIRED and sore. I planned on going for a leisurely walk in the morning on the treadmill while watching something, but by the time I finished my weights and PT, I had only 40ish minutes until I had to get the kids up and get myself ready for work. I knew I wanted to do more than 2 miles, and since it was already getting light out (yay!) I decided to see if I could run a little. I did it slow, and was able to enjoy the sunrise. After 2 days in the office, I was working from home, so GM and I also got in a short walk to the bagel store, bakery, and even for a quick visit with his cousins (who live on our street) before going to work. A perfect start to my day!

Friday: 4.8 mile run/walk, hip PT and 2.6 mile lunch walk, plus 2ish mile walk at night

I woke up to 50s and had planned to take a walk, but when I got outside I was chilly and wanted to move! So I did a walk/run for the workout, ending at 13 min/mile pace, faster than my usual just walk. It was so great to see the sun rise- I am really enjoying the earlier sunlight! I also got in a great lunch walk too – I was able to catch up with a friend who was also taking a walk at the same time, but in NY. I used to do lunch walk/talks more regularly and now that the weather is nice, I need to get back out there!

That night, my daughter and I had an impromptu date night! We ended up walking to a cafe for dinner and then ice cream. Perfect weather – it felt like a summer evening!

Saturday: 7ish outdoor miles and hip PT

FW’s 9 am. soccer practice got moved, so I got to sleep in! I woke up without an alarm at 6:45, and got out for an easy run. I ran slowly and just enjoyed my time, running in routes I hadn’t done in a while. I got in 7 miles before realizing I had to head home to move my car because there was a local race happening on our street and I needed to be able to access my car to take FW to piano. I did some hip PT and then we got back to our activities. The rest of the day included piano and a baseball game. It was GORGEOUS out!!

Total: 31.79 miles running, walking, hip PT

Some questions for you:

  • Did the weather finally clear up near you and does it feel like spring/summer? Yes! I may finally move our winter coats to storage!
  • When do schools end near you? Most are done here, but we have one more week!

Yes – I love this age 🙂 She’s fun to do stuff with, but not (quite) as moody as a teenager. And they still look up to you/love being with you!

I LOVE that last photo- is that where you were running? So beautiful. Anyway sounds like you’re doing well. How is the hip holding up? Is it feeling good? And yes, getting back to strength will make you very sore. As usual you had a great week of fitting it all in, with the busy kid schedule.

    School is done here!!!

Yes! It’s a short trail part of my usual summer running path (which is mostly paved trail), but it has been so rainy it has been a mudslide, so I have been avoiding that part of the run. It finally dried enough that I could run on it! There were still some muddy parts but it was at least manageable. So many more places for me to run now that I’m running in at least part of daylight!

Happy birthday to your daughter! So glad the weather held!

So we got out fairly late this year. Seniors were done on May 8, but the rest of the district got out on Friday. I feel like Memorial Day was maybe early this year.

Looks like a wonderful week full of all the things! I’m so glad it’s all going well!

Our weather feels like fall and then summer… spring in the NE.

Schools end in a few weeks. Glad your daughter had decent weather for her birthday party.

Happy to hear that your hip is behaving and you are back to running all the miles. How long do you think you will keep up with PT?

Happy Birthday to your daughter – it sounds like she had a really special day.

I love how much you are able to walk to — I miss that living in the suburbs.

You’re going to have to tell me your hip exercises. They have worked well for you!

Maycember indeed. It was 44 this morning!
As you well know from your ALbany time, we have another 3+ weeks. There are some days off that make it less than that, but it’s still much longer than anywhere else
Congrats on your return to running

Yes I remember! We had Regents/finals the end of June. But started later than we do here.

Happy birthday to your daughter! What a lovely idea to have a date night with her. She must have loved that!

I’m so glad you are able to run more and that you’re back to lifting weights too. I agree with Jenny – that trail in the last photo looks wonderful!!

School just finished in our district. Did your schools go later due to the number of snow days this year? The weather has been great lately in Ohio. Happy-almost-summer!
