WIAW #31: Girls Night Out!

Happy WIAW! I’m back with another fun What I Ate Wednesday post, and this week features Monday’s eats. I had a birthday dinner out with some ladies, so I’m entitling this post GNO 0r Girls Night Out!

Now that’s in your heard. You’re welcome!

The day started as usual… Egg whites, spinach, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. I love it. B makes it for me nearly every day and I can’t complain!

20150914_083521

I had a nectarine for a snack before lunch.

20150914_141252

For lunch, I had a whole lotta food on top of lettuce. A.k.a a salad, right? That’s lettuce, carrots, tomato, some pickles, goat cheese and salty roasted almonds. AND leftover sea bass from dinner Saturday night.

20150914_130553

Snacks that afternoon included Wintergreen mints and Werthers (not pictured), a local apple and some carrots.

20150914_153006

And tea and honey. ❤

20150914_144316

For dinner, I had plans to meet up with some former coworkers for dinner and drinks to celebrate August birthdays. We went to Crop Kitchen in Uptown. It was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the patio and the food was pretty good! I had a warm farro salad and some wine. We had plans to go to a bakery for dessert, but it was closed on Mondays … whoops.  So for dessert I ended up having a granola bar (unpictured 😦 Sorry!).

20150914_184650

That was about it! Not a bad day. Minus the bakery being closed 🙂

Only one question for you this time:

  • Do you eat the same thing for breakfast every day?

WIAW #30 – My Day Off

Happy WIAW! I took last week off from writing, but I’m back with another fun What I Ate Wednesday post, filled with some fun eats. It was a not-so-typical day, as I had the day off to spend with my brother and his friend who were in town from San Francisco. So here you go- yesterday’s delicious eats!

The day started with a handful or two of some delicious homemade granola. Then, the three of us went for a run. 5.6ish miles in 81 degrees.

image

image

So it’s no surprise we were craving acai bowls and smoothies for lunch. I had an acai bowl and split some avocado toast with smoked salmon with my brother. So. Good. I love Restore- every single time I go it is delicious.
image

During the afternoon, we headed to a coffee shop and I got a large latte. I haven’t had one in a long time and it hit the spot!
image

For dinner, we were all in the mood for sandwiches.l and something quick before my brother had to head to the airport. We were in Tremont, so we hit up La Bodega. I had their vegetarian special- it was a toasted sub with feta, roasted red peppers, pesto aioli, spinach and onions. I ended up only eating half and gave my brother the rest.
image

After dinner I had some Werthers, a chocolate truffle and chocolate covered coffee beans. No, I didn’t eat the whole package – they belong to B so I had to save him some!
image

Pretty much a perfect day of delicious eats! Not as much veggies as I typically like, but a great day with my brother and showing him some local eats. And now I’m back to work and back to more homemade meals.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you prefer sandwiches hot or cold?
  • Best thing you are yesterday?

WIAW #29: Just an ordinary day

Happy What I Ate Wednesday party people!

First, let me warn you that this day is just an ordinary day. A pretty boring, eat breakfast and lunch at my desk and dinner at home day. That being said, it was still pretty yummy, so here we go.

Side note – did anyone else have this song in their head now? #sorryimnotsorry

Anyway, I digress. For breakfast, B made me my usual. Egg whites with hot peppers plus veggies. Yum yum yum. Tired of seeing this same meal? Oh, those are farm fresh local tomatoes. So. Good.

20150825_085021

For lunch, I basically had last night’s dinner leftovers on top of lettuce, plus goat cheese. So it became a salad! Salad with olives, salmon, tomato, roasted cauliflower, sweet potato, broccoli and green beans. Plus a few nuts. Colorful, huh?

20150825_135844

20150825_172519

For snacks, I had some delicious fruit. Grapes and this apple, which was also local.  I can’t believe it’s practically apple picking season!

20150825_142408

Oh, and of course a pickle! I made pickles this past weekend (they’re so easy!) and couldn’t resist having a few before dinner.

20150824_180817

B made me dinner, too. Yup, breakfast and dinner today .. and we had a shrimp stir fry. We had a few veggies that needed to be eaten (bok chou, broccoli, eggplant) and combined with soy sauce, hoisin, sriracha and fish sauce, it was delicious!

20150825_200035

And for dessert? Some homemade granola. Yum!

20150824_213700

Some questions for you:

  1. I need a new breakfast. Any ideas? What’s your go-to?
  2. Have you ever pickled?
  3. What’s your favorite/least favorite kind of apple? I love so many kinds it’s hard to pick a favorite. Least favorite – red delicious!

WIAW #28: Camping Eats

It’s Wednesday…which means it’s not only Hump Day but it’s also What I Ate Wednesday!

I’m pretty excited to share with you something completely different for me – today, I’m sharing food from Saturday, when B and I went camping! That’s right, all of these meals are from my time in the woods.

For breakfast, B made some bacon and eggs over the campfire. Plus some freshly “toasted” bread. And grapes. Not a bad way to start the day!

IMG_20150815_094316

i ate these grapes all weekend

i ate these grapes all weekend

We took a pretty long hike and by the time we stopped for lunch, i was starving!  We ended up stopping along the route and eating on a rock with a great view. Bread, cheese, veggies and meat sticks for lunch. Easy, and packed in a backpack!

20150815_140652

Here’s a pic of our lunch WITH the view:

20150815_140649

Dinner was once again over the campfire. While B was preparing it, I snacked on some more veggies and cheese and grapes. Come on, you didn’t think we ate ALL of that for lunch, did you?

MORE CHEESE!

MORE CHEESE!

20150815_194552

camping dinner

And dinner was SO perfectly cooked. I don’t know how he did it, but we had potatoes, onions and steak – all made over the campfire. Such a good dinner!

Oh and don’t worry – we also roasted marshmallows over the fire for dessert. I had two…or four or five.

20150814_213347

Some questions for you:

  1. Do you like s’mores?
  2. What is a typical “camping” meal for you?
  3. How do you like your steak? I like mine rare 🙂

WIAW #27: NOT healthy eats

Happy What I Ate Wednesday!

Be forewarned – today was NOT a very  healthy day. No zoodles. Not many vegetables. AND – beer and ice cream for dinner. Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself. Today’s eats are pretty fun, for me at least and really weren’t that bad. It’s not my typical workday where I bring my own food and prepare my own dinner. Nope – I had lunch AND dinner out!

The day started out with an interval run, the last of my training for the Cleveland Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Half. After the run (about 5 miles total), I was pretty hungry and very grateful for this ginormous breakfast from B. Those eggs were massive.

My breakfast - courtesy of B:)

My breakfast – courtesy of B:) Yes, it started off healthy …

I had a snack of some homemade granola as well.

Confession - i made this to share, but I've eaten most of it.

Confession – i made this to share, but I’ve eaten most of it.

For lunch, I had a meeting out of the office. We went to a Vietnamese place – I love Vietnamese food! I enjoyed a cabbage / shrimp salad and fresh summer rolls. My FAVORITE!

20150503_183256 20150811_131856

Afternoon snacks included some grapes, a plum and some zucchini (not pictured).

20150811_152209 20150811_093028

AND some homemade oatmeal peanut butter cookies (yes, plural) when I got home. Sweet tooth was happy!

20150811_153810

At night, B and I had tickets to see the Indians play the Yankees! Though I’ve lived here 7 years and am now for sure an Indians fan, it’s still a weird feeling when I see them play the Yankees. I was born in New York and lived there for more than 20 years, so there’s a part of me that will always love seeing any New York team play.

Dinner was at the game. I typically go for a veggie burger or a pretzel, but I wasn’t really that hungry after all my snacking. So after having a beer, I went straight for dessert- soft serve vanilla. Can you believe this was a small?

20150811_184232 20150811_205351

So yes, my dinner was ice cream and beer. And yes, I’m not proud of it, but I’m publicly sharing it on WIAW. Ahh well – there’s always tomorrow!

Some questions for you:

  1. Do you ever have super snacky days? What do you snack on?
  2. Favorite baseball team?
  3. Ever had beer and ice cream (or insert other not-so-healthy combination here) for dinner? Come on, I can’t be the only one ….

WIAW #26: Sundaes on Saturday

Happy What I Ate Wednesday, folks. It’s one of my favorite days of the week – seeing all the great eats that everyone has to share, plus sharing my own. AND today’s is an especially fun day of eats, because it was my SATURDAY eats. Which meant ice cream, kombucha, popcorn and more fun stuff. Are you ready?

The day started out with a nice 5k with B and myself. After the run, it started to get hot off and I was craving some fruit and something fresh. The cure? We stopped off at one of my favorite downtown breakfast spots, Restore for some avocado toast, a smoothie AND an acai bowl. Don’t worry, we split the three between us:

IMG_20150801_120936 IMG_20150801_121328

After breakfast, we headed to the West Side Market to pick up groceries. I was still feeling in the mood for fruit so I grabbed this bad boy and some grapes to snack on during the day:

20150711_112943

After the Market, we headed out to Hingetown, where B got coffee and I got – you guessed it – kombucha at Cleveland Tea Revival. I can’t get enough of this stuff!20150718_105202

We had a relatively lazy afternoon after that and ended up going out to dinner, to the movies, and then out for dessert.

We had a gift card to Town Hall and enjoyed an appetizer of lettuce wraps (sorry, forgot to take a photo before … you can see some remnants below).

20150801_175049

And I got this massive kale, beet, goat cheese, almond and veggie burger salad for dinner. I ate leftovers for 2 days 🙂

20150801_175044

We then headed to the movies and saw Trainwreck. B got popcorn, and I had a few handfuls. NO – I did not take any pictures during the movie 🙂 But AFTER the movie, we went out for ice cream. Holy cow, was this  sundae delicious. Salted caramel ice cream with toffee bits and a bit of B’s whipped cream and cherry. I had a long run planned for Sunday morning, so of course I had to count this as part of my cargo-loading 🙂

1438481678507

That concluded my Saturday. Wow, looking at this, I want to go back! So much good eats in one day!

Some questions for you:

  1. Do you tend to splurge more on weekends?
  2. Do you like sweet/salty combo? Yes! Salted caramel ice cream – chocolate covered pretzels – i want it all!
  3. Have you seen Trainwreck? What did you think?
  4. Runners – do you have any go-to eats the night/day before a long run?

WIAW #25: Vacation Eats in Mendocino

A very happy What I Ate Wednesday to you! I’m excited to share with you a great day of eats- different than my typical everyday eats – in fact, I’m vacationing with my family in California and we had a great day in Mendocino. A great day with a nice walk around the town, and wonderful eats.

Gorgeous Mendocino!

Gorgeous Mendocino!

The Inn that we were staying at delivered a great breakfast to us in the morning in a cute basket. The Inn boasts 100+ chickens, so of course there were some fresh eggs included with breakfast:

We took a great walk after breakfast around downtown Mendocino, all around the Headlands along the ocean. We got hungry along the way and snacked on some Malley’s Dark Chocolate Almonds.

Screen Shot 2015-07-29 at 12.53.52 AM

After our walk, we stopped for lunch at a cafe downtown. My mom and I split a lunch – we got a salad trio, with quinoa, kale and brussels sprouts salad. It was really good and tasted so fresh.

20150728_152224

Dinner was so good. We ended up eating at MacCallum House, an inn in town, and had an amazing meal. We enjoyed a bottle of local Pinot Noir, some fresh baked sour dough, and shared a cheese platter.

20150728_192552 20150728_194401

My mom and I split the arugula, proscuitto and chèvre salad and ratatouille. I love splitting meals, and it was the perfect way to try a bunch of food without getting too stuffed.

20150728_195928 20150728_195924

Dessert was so so so good. We had a fresh blackberry soufflé and split it four ways. Since it had been my mom’s birthday, they put a candle in a side of cream for her to blow out.

20150728_203332

That concluded our day in Mendocino. It was such a good day of eats – I really can’t complain! As always, click on the badge below to see what WIAW is all about.

Some questions for you:

  1. What’s the best thing you ate yesterday?
  2. Have you ever been to Mendocino?
  3. Splitting meals – yay or nay?

WIAW #24: TGIF!

Today’s What I Ate Wednesday post is a FRIDAY. Alas, it wasn’t an overly exciting Friday-  just your standard workday Friday.

Breakfast was egg whites and veggies. I know – shocker. I’m a creature of habit 🙂

20150717_091503

Lunch was mishmash – leftover spaghetti squash with homemade tomato sauce and basil (yummmm!) as well as a pre packed salad with a store-bought veggie burger.

20150717_135837

Snacks that day included some super salty almonds (Yum!) and more spaghetti squash. This time with honey and cinnamon. I forgot to take a picture (thus a photo of the empty container).

20150717_145422 20150717_172156

B and I had a long run planned for Saturday, so we opted for a low key Friday night. I love vegan food before long runs, so we tried out a new restaurant. The food was pretty good – I had a sweet potato veggie burger wrapped in collard greens.

20150717_183332

And of course, I had to have dessert. I made myself a mini bowl with a bunch of random treats – white chocolate chips, banana bread, chex and chocolate.

20150717_203106

That concluded my Friday. As always, click on the badge below to see what WIAW is all about.

Some questions for you:

  1. What do like to eat the night before a long run? Anything vegan, typically. Wraps, sandwiches, salads etc. YUM!
  2. What’s your typical Friday night? This wasn’t typical but it was nice to stay in for a change!
  3. Have you ever had spaghetti squash in a sweeter manner, like I did?

WIAW #23: Jury Duty.

Happy What I Ate Wednesday! It’s my 23rd WIAW post and for those of you that know me know that 23 is my lucky number. So of course this WIAW includes some of my favorite foods – cheese and froyo and candy 🙂

I had jury duty this week so my eats were a little more controlled. Meaning I had to pack my own snacks unless I wanted to see what they had at the courthouse (note: Apparently the food at the courthouse was actually good. Oh well!)

Breakfast, instead of my usual egg whites (I didn’t think bringing those would be a good idea) or smoothie (I usually make this with the office Vitamix), I grabbed a big bag of frozen grapes. Only some of the grapes are pictured, below. Because let’s face it, I already ate half the grapes before I took a photo.

frozen grapes are SO GOOD!

frozen grapes are SO GOOD!

I had done some meal prep over the weekend and managed to make a few salads for B and me to take for lunches this week. You can’t see all the goodness in here, but it’s baby lettuce (my favorite!), arugula, tomato, roasted sweet potato and chicken.

20150713_125315

For snacks, I had made some peanut butter granola. Again, that’s about half of the granola I packed. I also packed some carrots.

20150713_140327 20150713_151635

For dinner, I made some spicy Italian chicken burgers (these were bought at the West Side Market, I just cooked them) with some peppers and onions and a caprese quinoa salad (with fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil). The meal tasted so summery to me – it was perfect!

20150713_182309

It was a beautiful evening, so B and I took a walk and got some froyo at a place not to far from our apartment. I LOVE frozen yogurt places – mainly for the toppings bar as you can see – and it is the first time we’ve gone all summer!

Screen Shot 2015-07-13 at 9.22.22 PM

That concluded my Monday. How did I do? Would you eat all of that too?

As always, click on the badge below to see what WIAW is all about.

Some questions for you:

  1. What do you get on your frozen yogurt? Anything and everything. I like a basic flavor and then toppings galore! I mixed few pieces of cheesecake bites, cookie dough bites, butterfingers, snickers and even boba and mochi. Oh, and of course one sour worm. Just because.
  2. What’s something great you ate this week?
  3. Have you ever had jury duty?

WIAW #22: No Groceries.

Happy What I Ate Wednesday! Does anyone else feel like it should be Thursday, or even Friday? I’m still recovering from the Fourth of July and a busy work week.

Anyway, these were my eats from Monday. I got back late Sunday from our trip to Milwaukee and didn’t go to the store. I didn’t meal prep. So here  it is – what you see is when I don’t have groceries (until the end of the day).

The morning started with another smoothie bowl. I know – for a person who doesn’t like smoothies, I’m starting to really enjoy smoothie bowls. They can’t replace my typical eggs, but when you don’t have any groceries but do have some frozen fruit, a Vitamix and protein powder at work, this will do. Again, it doesn’t look that pretty but it tasted pretty good. It was some Hemp vanilla protein powder (free sample I had gotten in the mail), some water, some ice, and some frozen strawberries and blueberries. Topped with some flaxseed and chia seeds for texture. AND eaten with a spoon. Evne though some of it was in a glass (see how much it made?!)

IMG_20150706_093827

Lunchtime I headed over to one of my favorite downtown sandwich and salad places, Stone Oven and got my favorite salad. Janea’s salad. Feta, chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red pepper, bread, croutons, tabbouleh and couscous salad. Such a good meal. I was in food heaven.

20150706_130155

Followed by a nectarine and a few nuts (not pictured) AND some white chocolate chips (I had already eaten some when I took the photo).

20150706_135958

20150701_163507

I also had some Werther’s and mustard. Yes, I like mustard packets. By themselves.

20150706_150030

For dinner,  I had plans to introduce a friend to some zoodles. She had never had them before, so I headed over to Heinen’s after work to pick up some goodies to cook and we ended up making a dish for Meatless Monday – vegetarian lomein with zoodles instead of pasta. It was pretty good!

20150706_204534

She brought over dessert – some paleo zucchini brownies and cookies she had made. They were both really good! I’m a purist when it comes to dessert, and these didn’t taste like traditional cookies and brownies – but they were still really tasty. I may have taken some for leftovers. Zucchini brownies for breakfast anyone? (It may defeat the purpose, but they’re so delicious with peanut butter too :))

20150706_213935

So there you have it. That was my day without groceries until the evening. Click on the badge below to see what WIAW is all about.

Some questions for you:

  1. What’s your favorite quick and/or on-the-go breakfast?
  2. Have you ever had any paleo desserts? What did you think? Do you recommend any recipes?
  3. Anyone like me? Do you eat mustard plain?
