Tuesdays on the Run: Sick Week

This post will be somewhat sort because I’m sick. I’m getting over a flu-like cold and therefore this week included not so many runs, unless you count running after a 15-month-old. Even that was short-lived, as I tried to spend at least some of my free time napping.

Total for this week: 3 runs, 13ish miles total

  • Tuesday: 5 miles
  • Wednesday: 4.68 miles
  • Thursday: 4.15 miles

Some of the highlights:

I did get in 3 runs before the plague hit. I slept in Thursday and Friday and opted to just go for a long walk on Saturday.  I actually started to run a little with the stroller on Saturday morning, but had too much coughing/throat hurting (I had to breathe with my mouth open) that I decided that walking was a better fit.

Here’s to hoping that I kick this cold soon and am back and running again!

  • Do you run when sick? Typically, yes. As long as it’s just a cold! But this one has got me down for the count.
  • Any tips for getting better fast?

Vacation Running

I have to admit that I slacked somewhat with my running last week. While I got in plenty of steps most days, I didn’t get in my usual 5+ workouts during the week. But I have no regrets – I was on vacation! And, when I’m on vacation with B and FW, it’s sometimes hard to fit in a run. After all, unless where somewhere that is easy to run with a stroller, one of us has to watch FW and it takes away from our family vacation time (which gives me big mom guilt). So, considering all of that, I’m pretty pleased with last week’s runs.

Some of the highlights:

ALL of the runs were done outdoors! And since I was on vacation, it was so nice to be running during daylight hours on more than 4-5 hours of sleep.

This was my view for some of those runs – greenery and a farm in upstate NY.

And beautiful water for two of my runs, which were done in Annapolis.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you run on vacation?
  • What’s your ideal scenery for running? Water? Farmland? Forest/trees? Mountains? City?

Tuesdays on the Run: Fourth of July Week

Is anyone else still wishing it were last Tuesday and we had the day off from work and could be just spending time outside enjoying the Fourth of July? I definitely am! Last week I had off Monday and Tuesday off, and we enjoyed spending time outside with a hike on Monday and a run as a family on Tuesday.  The week included 5 runs, including 2 outdoor runs and one with a stroller:

My favorite run of the week was on Tuesday – B, FW and I got out to the park and got in a stroller run. I pushed FW for about 3 miles and B took him for the last mile or so:

It wasn’t a bad week, but my mileage was much lower than it has been. My legs just felt heavy and tired most of the week – it probably didn’t help that a few nights in a row I got barely 5 hours of sleep. And then yesterday, I pulled a muscle or something in my lower back/butt. TMI? I’m not sure what’s up, but I can barely walk straight, so this week may not include much running sadly 😦

Some questions for you:

  • How many hours of sleep do you get in a typical night?
  • What are you looking forward to most this week?

First Mother’s Day Weekend

I celebrated my first Mother’s Day with B and FW this weekend! Last year, I was 30+ weeks pregnant and felt funny every time people told me Happy Mother’s Day. But this year, with a 10-month-old boy, things are a little different 🙂

This year, B, FW and I celebrated with a weekend full of things that I enjoy doing.

For example, Friday night we got a beer at one of our favorite local pubs. Oh, and my phone died Friday so all of these photos are from B’s phone – and I was pretty much sans technology all weekend!

Saturday, I had to work in the morning, but was able to meet B and FW for a late lunch. We met up with a friend at Great Lakes Brewing Company before doing some shopping at the West Side Market.

Then, after a little shopping and errand-running, we went to the Indians game! It was FW’s first game.

The weather was great – it was a little chilly but sunny and mild the entire game.

And then, for dinner, B made me pizza!

Sunday morning was GREAT. We started out with a run on the Towpath.

Followed by some donuts from a nearby donut shop. They have a CASSSATA CAKE donut just for Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day and omg it is amazing (not pictured).

And then, some brunch. We feasted on some Mexican Eggs Benedict and shared a pancake as well.

While FW napped, we were also semi-productive; B helped me meal prep for the week and I caught up on some more work. It’s been busy and I’m trying hard not to get behind!

That afternoon, we went over to B’s family’s house for Mother’s Day dinner. We had small plates, a bunch of food that people brought over as a potluck. Some of the goodness included crab cakes, salad, cheese and bread, fruit, shrimp, open-faced steak sandwiches, bruschetta and more!

All in all, it was a great way to spend my first Mother’s Day.

Questions for you:

  • When was the last time you were without a phone or any technology?
  • Do you like cassata cake?
