Thanksgiving Miles

Happy Thanksgiving week! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This year was a different celebration and much smaller, but it was still nice to be with family and B cooked up all of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes, plus more. We feasted on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, butternut squash – and B made them all! I contributed with two pies, including my first pumpkin pie.

But we did more than just feast, we did our own Turkey trot, and we were able to take a few long walks with my parents, so I got in a few more miles this week than last. Here’s how the week looked:

Some highlights:

Our impromptu Thanksgiving day Turkey Trot was great. The night before Thanksgiving, B was texting with his brothers and they decided to do a group run. We ran from our house to his brother’s house, picked him up, ran to his parents’ house and picked up his other brother and then ran home. That was about a 4.5 mile route, so I did a few more miles on my own to get in more than 7 for my morning. It was my longest run in a few weeks!

Walking around with my parents was great. I do not take any moment we have with them for granted, especially these days. And, of course, the kids love seeing them!

Getting in a rainy 5 miler. Okay, so rainy runs aren’t my favorite, but it has rained the last several Sundays and I really wanted to stay inside, but I was glad I made it out there. I got soaked but it was much more entertaining for me than the treadmill!

Running some muddy trails on Saturday. Due to some family stuff, I was not in the best mood Saturday morning and didn’t want to go for a run. B suggested I hit up a local park and while I was there I went off the paved path we usually take and found a network of trails. I don’t do trail running, but it was nice to walk/run in the wooded area and spend time doing something different than usual.

Here’s to hoping the mild-ish weather stays and I’m able to get in some more outdoor miles this week, too!

Some questions for you:

  • Did you run any sort of Turkey Trot this year? Do you usually?
  • Were your Thanksgiving plans different this year?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. I’m sorry you had some rough family stuff. I don’ tknow why family can be so hard, sometimes.

I usually do a turkey trot, but this year, I had to do one on my own with a friend. Our local race was straight up canceled. Boo.

We had a quiet dinner at home, and A made both our pies and a mac and cheese. I only had to provide the stuffing. Easy peasy.
