A Taste of Spring

I think that all my complaining about our never-ending winter paid off – we finally had a taste of spring in Cleveland!

It was just that though – just a taste – as of course after our 2 days in a row of 40s and even 50 one day we were in the 20s again. But, those 2 days of warmth, sunshine and just a little snow melting was all I needed to start getting my running mojo back.

The week started out cold, miserable and incredible icy. So icy that I almost fell walking down our driveway several times. The sidewalks were no better. But then it warmed up, we had some sun, and I was able to get outside for a run again after almost a week of staying indoors. It’s amazing how much better I feel during an outdoor run. On the treadmill I stop, get water, check email, start up again, stop, change what I’m watching, etc. Outside, I run pretty much consistently and just feel more motivated. So, after Sunday’s treadmill run, the rest were all outside!

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 5.5 treadmill miles, but then a long walk with the family. We walked over to the nearby lakes, which were frozen solid! B and FW are standing on top of the solid ice in this pic. And this was the only day I was stuck inside this week!

Monday: 5.52 miles

Tuesday: 6 miles – I did 5 outside and 1 inside.

Wednesday: 5.1 miles

Thursday: 5.11 miles

Friday: 5.26 miles

Saturday: 5.31 miles – and it was 42 degrees! Meaning I actually wore capris for the first time in … FOREVER. We also got in a long walk with the family by the lake.

Weekly mileage: 37.8 mi

Running streak days: 310

I also got this message on my Garmin app early in the week – I’ve kept up my step goal for 200+ days!

Some questions for you:

  • Do you have a step goal? How often do you meet it?
  • Did it warm up near you?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Step goals are a joke for me. If I don’t run, I barely get any in, especially working at home. I do walk Scooby, but that’s one mile, and I usually only do it once a day – my husband takes him out too.

I know that lake is frozen solid, but living where bodies of water don’t freeze like that, it freaks me out!

  2. You are on quite a run streak! Good for you. I like your Garmin display better than mine I need to play around with that. Not my strong point! We also had a little taste of spring weather it was really nice. I don’t do step goals bc it never counts my cycling or elliptical. I do intend to step up my afternoon walks again this month

  3. I am eager to wear shorts…soon! I have a couple pairs of 7/8 tights (which are more of a capri-length on me), so those were worn at least. Way to go on that run streak! Totally agree…the outdoor runs go so much easier (and feel almost effortless) than the treadmill ones.

  5. I used to do much better with step goals when I worked in an office but since WFH I really have to make an effort to get up and walk around. Like Coco, if I don’t run, my steps are pretty crappy for the day 😦 I hope to get out for more lunchtime walks once the weather is nice.

  6. i don’t have step goals, but on days where I wear my garmin it will periodically tell me I reached my goal (what goal???) I do walk around a lot, and I have an active job.
Congratulations on that streak- it’s impressive!

  7. Yeah, this weekend was downright hot. I think we saw it get into the 80s. Good times.

I try to hit a step goal over the course of a week. I’m not wearing my watch today, so there will be a big missing chunk. Oh, well.

  8. I had a step goal when I was in the classroom but then stopped because it was too much pressure to meet that goal. I also stopped wearing my Fitbit because I didn’t want another thing on my wrist.
