This week we continued our summer vacation travels with a trip to Montreal! We finished up a quick visit with my parents in Upstate NY (Too short!) and then drove up to Montreal Sunday to spend a few days there exploring with the family. Having a hotel gym was nice, but it’s always somewhat hard to fit in some exercise when I am also spending time with my family. Luckily this week, B suggested I workout each morning while he grabbed breakfast with the kiddos. It worked out for me! I got in some alone time to workout, before we all headed to the hotel pool and then started our days.
And – I almost forgot! – now for a quick monthly recap. Some highlights from July:
- I was able to run mostly pain free! I had a few days of mandatory time off, thanks to getting stitches.
- I had to take time off weight training due to the stitches in my arm, but used that time to focus on core work (at least when I wasn’t on vacation).
- We enjoyed some vacations, and I was able to stay active with running during my time away.
- I kept up with my hip PT every day but one day this month!
With that, my monthly total running mileage was 154.4 miles! This was my highest this calendar year. Not the highest over the past 12 months, but the highest in a while.
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 6.31 miles running, 1.3 miles hiking, hip PT
It was our day to get back in the road and for us to drive up to our next destination– Montreal!
I started the day with a run around where I grew up. Then, we went for a short hike with the kiddos and my parents before getting on the road to Montreal!
We got in around dinner time, so we walked around the Old Town, before and after dinner, and enjoyed an outdoor meal.

Monday: 3.76 miles Montreal running, hip PT, lots of walking, including Mount Royal
I got in a short run around Montreal before it was time to start our day! We started with some pool time, then it was time to walk to lunch and then time for our hike! As a family, we hiked up Mount Royal, including the 400ish stairs. I was proud if the kiddos for all making it up and down!

Tuesday: 4ish mile run, hip PT, short weight workout
I started my day with 4 miles, running to the waterfront. I happened to run along the water just as this big boat was passing by!

Later in the day, we visited the Montreal Biome, which the kids loved. I loved seeing the capybaras and puffins (and penguins!).

Then we walked around Olympic Park before heading back to our hotel.

Wednesday: 3.65 miles treadmill walk/run, hip PT, and lots of walking
It was our last full day in Montreal! It was raining when I got up, so I opted to go for a little run/walk in the treadmill at the hotel gym, and then after some hotel pool time it was time to start our day!

We left the hotel and brought rain gear and umbrellas but we lucked out and it actually ended up not raining for any of our outdoor time– which included walking around the water and Old Montreal. We also visited the Science Museum, which the kids really enjoyed! After dinner, we also surprised the kids with a ride on the big ferris wheel – the biggest in Canada!

Thursday: 4.05 mile outdoor run, short weight workout @ the hotel gym
I decided to get another outdoor run in, and tested out a new (to me) running path in Montreal along the water. It went on for a while, and it was great to see a ton

Friday: 6.24 mile outdoor run, hip PT
Another day, another outdoor run! My legs were tired so I also got in some walking during the workout.
Saturday: 7.09 mile run back in CLE, hip PT and short core workout
We are back! I ran my usual summertime route at home, which was great! I was TIRED and did a little walking, which was nice. I also got in my hip PT and a brief core workout before a productive day – laundry, finishing unpacking,
On my run, I saw this hawk (?) with a dead squirrel! You can’t tell in the photo but it had a dead squirrel in its claws! After I took the photo it flew away with the squirrel hanging from it!

Total: 35.28 miles running, walking, hip PT
Some questions for you:
- Have you been to Montreal?
- Do you speak any French?
