The Weather in the Land Goes Up and Down

Up and down … up and down! Our weather and temps have gone up and down this week. And I can’t complain, especially about the UP! It is back to seasonably normal weather right now, but it was in the upper 60s on Wednesday, which was just AMAZING. I ran in the dark in shorts!  The taste of spring was exactly what me and my body needed. But now, back to the cold …

February Sunshine

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Are you excited for the big game? In my past life (just a year ago), I worked at an ad agency, and this day was a BIG deal. Not for the sports, but instead for the ads. There were several years in a row that I was “working” the game, taking notes of ads, live tweeting and preparing blog posts or content for the agency to share immediately following the game. It was fun – but I’m glad to be just enjoying the game ads and food tonight.

But this isn’t a post about football – it’s about running!

Winter is still in full swing in Cleveland, but at least this week we got a break from the snow and ice, and enjoyed some blue skies for a few days. This made all the difference, and I even got to enjoy the sunshine on a few midday walks.

Kicking off February

I have two reasons to be excited about this week – first, we finished January and I had decent mileage and second, I did a group run! I rarely run with people, and it was nice to be social and get outside with fellow runners to kick off the Cleveland Marathon training cycle.  On a less exciting note, this week another wave of sickness made it through our house and forced me to take a day off. But I’m feeling all better now!

Here are some January highlights:

Total running mileage: 122.88

Other activities: Some walks PLUS I did ab exercises 3-5 days/week every week!

Lowlights: Getting covid. It didn’t stop me from running, but slowed me down somewhat, and I am still feeling like I am recoverin some days. Also, the weather. We had plenty of cold, icy and snowy days. I ran outside 17 days, and inside 14 days.

Birthday Week

Happy Birthday TO ME! My birthday was this week, so I’m taking this moment to celebrate me on the blog 🙂

I was able to celebrate with the family last weekend – we went out to dinner, had a mini-staycation in a hotel, I got a manicure, and I got lunch with a friend. I also was able to get in a snowy birthday run! Would I have rather it been 50 degrees and sunny during my run? (That’s a rhetorical question – you should know the answer by now) But it was snowy and somewhat pretty/not slippery yet (it was FRESH snow), so it really wasn’t that bad. And, it’s exactly how I would want to start my birthday!

Lots of Inside Time

It’s always in January that I start to get tired of winter. We’ve been lucky to have a mild winter so far – our average snow fall is down! – but this week, almost each morning had something that made it difficult to run outside. Between heavy snow, melting snow/thus ice, and rain, it was a less-than-ideal week for running weather-wise. I’m thankful for my treadmill. Is it too early to start a count down to spring?

On the Mend

For those of you following along, you may recall that last week our family came down with COVID. Luckily it has been mild, and our quarantine is over!

But, I’m still recovering. It has pretty much been like a cold, but as with any cold, it’s hard to breathe at times and I’m TIRED. So, it has been hard to get out of bed this week and I haven’t been able to workout or go for as long of runs as I would like.

I’m happy to be still running, but can’t wait until my lungs/body/everything feels better and I can get in a longer run and faster run again!

Starting off the New Year positive

Well, 2023 didn’t quite start as planned. For all of you that started off the new year with new goals and are still going strong – congratulations! Our new year started off positive – but in a different way. It started off with sickness and then positive COVID tests for our household. This is our first time catching COVID (yes, we made it three years into the pandemic somehow), and luckily it has been mild for us all.

That said, it still has thrown off our schedule, workouts, and everything else this week. With all the kids home thanks to our quarantine, plus trying to work full time, I knew I had to get in some workouts this week just for my sanity.

Negative Twenty Plus Degrees Is Cold

I can’t believe that it’s almost Christmas!! The holidays are my favorite time of year, and I am so looking forward to seeing my family tomorrow. But before that, I enjoyed a few nice runs this week. This week, I got the pleasure of sleeping in! Since FW didn’t have school, I was able to get up at 5:30 (yes, that’s sleeping in on weekdays) and get in a few miles later than usual. It was realllly nice and that extra hour or so of sleep made all the difference. That was before the storm came though – the week started out mostly nice, with a few days of slight snowfall that had melted by lunch. But then, the storm came, and my workouts had to adapt … here’s how the week looked:

Buhbye Snow

Another week has come and gone and we had barely any snow! The sidewalks stayed clear and I was able to run outside every morning. I cannot stress how much of a difference this has made in my outlook.

We did have some cold weather return, but overall, it stayed in the 20s-30s in the mornings and I was able to bundle up, get outside for a run, and not have to employ my Yaktrax or worry about slipping and sliding.

A Taste of Spring

I think that all my complaining about our never-ending winter paid off – we finally had a taste of spring in Cleveland!

It was just that though – just a taste – as of course after our 2 days in a row of 40s and even 50 one day we were in the 20s again. But, those 2 days of warmth, sunshine and just a little snow melting was all I needed to start getting my running mojo back.
