Cleveland Half Marathon Training: Week 7

This week was another great week in terms of weather for running – every single one of my runs, including my speed training (8×400 m) was done outside.

Here’s a look at week 7 of my Cleveland half marathon training:

Some highlights/lowlights:

This week was the first time that I used my Garmin Fenix to help with interval training. I typically do speed work inside on a treadmill, but I opted to try it outside, since it was 50s in the morning. It was actually kind of fun to do my intervals outside – my only issue was that some of the runs were uphill and some were downhill. But I guess that is good for training in real world conditions?

Here were some of my splits:

I didn’t get in a really long run this weekend. I had a 10k race on the schedule, but since my parents were in town, I decided to take the weekend off from running. Instead, on the two days I was scheduled to not run, I did a 7 and 5 miler.

Next week is another 9 miler and then the following week I signed up for the Cleveland 10 miler! It will be my longest race since 2017!

  1. In answer to your question, YES!! I love 10-mile runs, I just wish they were more common in my area. I try to do as much of my training outside, regardless of what kind of workout I have on the agenda. I have a few different hills that are great for hill sprints (various distances), and a span of sidewalk (2 city blocks, with no cross traffic) that is ideal for intervals/Fartleks.   2. I do love 10 mile races and feel like they are much easier on my body recovery wise than half races. I should use my Garmin to do more speed work but so far I have not. Thanks for linking up and have a great week!

  3. I wouldn’t say I love them but I do like 10 mile races. We have a few here in Chicago.

    I love doing speedwork outside and always use my Garmin for them. One of the best features of that watch.

  4. I have done a lot of my intervals on the treadmill, but I do really love being able to program my Garmin for speedwork when I go outside! It’s so simple. I do use my Garmin when I’m on my treadmill too if I’m doing a time based interval. It doesn’t track the mileage properly, but it does alert me when I need to go fast or slow, so that makes it a no brainer. Gotta love that on an early morning run!
