142 Days of Running

For the first time during the streak this week, the weather almost prevented me from continuing.

Monday – Labor Day – I had plans to “sleep in” (until the kids woke up between 6:30-7) and go for a run while my parents watched the kids. Well, by the time I was ready to run, the skies were dark and it was pouring out. And not just pouring, but thundering and lightning. I checked the radar and it looked like it was going to rain alllll day. So, I hopped on the treadmill. It was my first treadmill run in MONTHS but there was no way I was going to let the weather ruin my streak. Plantar fasciitis? It may. A vacation without a treadmill? Perhaps. But some thunderstorms at my house? Not happening.

It ended up being a CRAZY storm, though. Our whole backyard turned into a lake. And, some roads near us flooded like crazy. The rain came down so fast and hard! Luckily, but the next day, the water had receded.

My total for the week was 37.45 miles. My plantar fasciitis has been acting up on and off, so I opted not to get in any long runs this week.

Here is a look at the full week:

Here were some other highlights from the week:

My parents were in town for the long weekend! This meant on Sunday morning, they watched the kids while I went for a run. We then spent the morning at the beach, which was perfect (and timely, since it was the day before the torrential rains).

I’m still running much slower  than ever, so I did try one day of interval training (Thursday), which I haven’t done since March.

While my parents were here on Monday, B and I got in a little date! We went out for ice cream and then walked around. It was the first time we’ve been out without the kids SINCE JANUARY. And it was nice 🙂

Also not running-related at all, but TODAY is B’s birthday! So, I’ll get in a short run and then spend the day doing whatever he wants to do. We’re spending the day in a cabin, and the weather looks like rain again. So, will I keep up the streak? We’ll see!

Some questions for you:

  • What weather will you not run in? Thunder/lightning. I’m terrified of it! I don’t mind rain, I don’t like cold/ice, but I won’t run in lightning.
  •  Have you had a COVID birthday yet? What did you do?

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

  1. Your determination to keep the streak alive is impressive! Nice work! And happy birthday to the hubs! Mine is coming up too–but we don’t usually do anything exciting, so the pandemic won’t change that, lol!

  2. My birthday is March 14th, so the hubs organized a small dinner party at our house with some of our friends…and the world then turned upside down a few days later LOL His birthday is a couple weeks after mine, and two of our kids’ bdays are in July. My sister’s is in early June, both of my parents’ have come and gone (May and August). Our youngest has her bday in November…and it’s very likely that will be another COVID celebration s well. Oh well…it is what it is. Great that you can keep the streak going, but ugh to the PF!

  3. A while ago after seeing a woman out running as a hurricane was rolling in, I wrote about knowing the difference between being a badass runner and a dumbass runner. 😉 I draw the line at lightning/thunder and high winds — there have been freak accidents with falling limbs, and I don’t want to make the news. Happy birthday to your little! My DIL’s bday is in October — if it’s too cold to eat outside they may get fancy take-out.

  4. Lightning and thunder is what I will not run in. Snow yes but ice no. I don’t want to slip and fall.

My mother’s birthday was last week and we had a small cake for her. It was just 3 of us that were here that day.

  5. I won’t run in rain or hurricanes or lightning storms. It’s gross and I hate it.

A and I both had COVID birthdays. A had a drive-by party where his friends decorated cards and drove by with signs and balloons for his day. Mr PugRunner picked up dinner for mine and my neighbor brought over her mini horse for me to love on, but that was back in May. Things have loosened up here since then, so things would be different.
