We just got back from a few days in Chicago for a fun family vacation. My son’s last day of kindergarten (!) was the week before Memorial Day, so we decided to spend the week out of town and took a road trip to the Windy City. Unlike last year, where I was doing my running streak and had to get in a run each day, this year, I was looking forward to taking a few days off, but also running a few days while I was there. And that’s exactly what I did! I was able to get in a a few runs on my trip, but on the days I didn’t get out, I instead took long walks with the family and still got in my step goal.
I love getting in runs in new cities. It helps to break up the boredom of running the same route(s) day in and day out, but it’s also a great way to explore.
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday – 4.03 miles before getting on the road
Monday – rest day – no running, instead, lots of walking
Tuesday – 3.5 miles
Wednesday – 4.01 miles for Global Running Day
Thursday – rest day – long drive home from vacation, but also included some walking to start the day
Friday – 3 quick (for me) miles
Saturday – 5 miles – about 4.7 with the stroller and then .3 around the block “run” with LM
Total: 19.54 miles

Some questions for you:
- Do you have any vacation or trips planned?
- Do you like running on vacation?
l am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
Running on vacation is hard because I feel bad leaving my husband behind in the hotel room. I’ll do it at the beach, but not if we’re on a more special trip.
I’m looking forward to running in Chicago this week – on a business trip.
I get the feeling bad, too! I have such guilt for taking time away from my family to run on a family vacation. Enjoy your Chicago running this week!

I never ran on vacation trips when the kids were with us. Now that we’ve taken some trips without them, I usually sneak out for early morning runs. I agree, it’s a great way to explore!
Well, you know I love to run in new cities and Chicago is a fun one when the weather cooperates! My daughter lives there now so I get to visit a few times a year. Have a great week
I love running in different places, whether a new city or just revisiting a place I don’t run as often. It’s a great way to sightsee
