Well, I’ve got my heat training done for the summer just this week. June in Cleveland can be a variety of temperatures – 50s, 60s or even 70s and 80s. But this week we nearly broke records with highs in the upper nineties and “feels like” in the 100s!
Thankfully, I run in the morning but even then, I had some hot runs. It was in the 80s at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday and Wednesday’s run may have “only” been in the upper 70s at 5:30 a.m. but it was so humid it felt like I was swimming! Because I didn’t have anything on the calendar for training, I was able to just take it easy and run what I wanted both days. But it wasn’t easy!
Then, Saturday we had signed up for a 5K that was in our neighborhood – and the temperatures broke just in time. Race time temps were in the 60s and breezy – nearly perfect! So perfect, that I ended up winning a medal … but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Anyway, here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday – 5.01 mi stroller run with FW this time! He did such a great job – I ran to our bagel shop and back and he fell asleep so I got in a few more blocks, too. Then, we did a walk with the family of about 3 miles on.a fitness trail, so the kids could stop occasionally and do the fitness tasks (arm hang, pull ups, stretching, abs, etc.). A great way to spend my Sunday!
Monday – 5.03 miles
Tuesday – 4.15 miles run, then 8 minute abs and a little stretching
Wednesday – 5.34 miles
Saw these guys on my run
Thursday – 4.51 mile run – it was 80s at 5:30 a.m. and I was SWEATY!
Friday – 2.75 miles and some stretching
Saturday – 3.18 mi – 5K race, finished at 8:33 pace – not just a postpartum PR but 1st in my age group! Full disclosure – it was a small race but I was still pleased with my time. The medal was an unexpected perk.
FW and LM did the 1 mile fun run. It unfortunately wasn’t timed, but FW finished in 8:20-something, his best time ever! LM also ran the whole way. I’m so proud of them!
Total: 29.98 miles
Some questions for you:
- Has it been HOT near you?
- Not a question – but also wishing a happy Father’s Day to my dad and B! Feeling grateful to have some wonderful dads in my life.
l am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
wow way to pull off that speedy 5K pr and show the neighborhood who’s boss! Yes it is extremely hot and not so fun 🙂
Congratulations! That is a great pace, and I love the medal. Sounds like you’re embracing the heat. I know it’s hard- I live in Florida so it’s usually pretty hot, but this last week it was hot everywhere.
We had a very hot and humid week in Iowa, too! And, we have another hot week ahead 😉 It is what it is. Congrats on the 5K race, and to your littles on their racing efforts. It “runs” in the family, LOL 😉
How perfect, A neighborhood race, a break in the weather, and an AG win! Congratulatons!
We had a heat wave last week but have crazy cool weather this weekend, so I am not complaining.
Whoo hoo! Way to go!
Yes, it’s hot here. Meltingly hot. I hate it, but it’s too hot to do anything about it.
