Hello Darkness

Hello, darkness! What a dark, dark week for running for me. Daylight is quickly shortening here in Northeast America so I had quite a few dark runs this week. I also came down with whatever crud is going through our house (FW has had a cough on and off for a few weeks, GM has an ear infection, etc.) so between that and the darkness, the week overall has felt very blah to me. I’ve tried to keep up with my workouts because after running I feel a little more awake and a little less cruddy, but I haven’t been sleeping well, so it has been hard to get out of bed!

Knowing that, here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: No run – instead a gorgeous hilly hike with the family!  We made it a few miles with some gorgeous views of an old castle, leaves changing color and … best part, nobody whined during our hike!

Monday4 miles in the cold and dark and diastasis recti ab exercises

Tuesday: 4 miles in the cold, wet and dark and diastasis recti ab exercises

Wednesday: 4.02 miles and diastasis recti ab exercises

Thursday: 4.17 miles and diastsis recti ab exercises.

Friday:   4.06 miles. And this was a strugggggggle! My alarm went off and I inadvertently snoozed, several times. I rarely do that – I was tired! I luckily did make it out of bed, but only had time to go 4 slow miles before starting the day.

Saturday:  3.1 miles run and ~3 mile stroller walk in the afternoon with GM. It was such a gorgeous day and I was so glad to be able to get outside and enjoy it!

Total: 23.35 mi running

Some questions for you:

  • Any Halloween plans?
  • Do you have any fall traditions?

l am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

We all have weeks when things seem tough, even for doing the things we love (like running). I have found myself snoozing more than usual in recent weeks…I think the increased darkness has my mind confused.

Good for you for getting out there in the dark even though you weren’t feeling well. I actually enjoy running in the peacefulness of pre-dawn.

I was telling someone this morning that I would not run if I had to go out in the dark. Good for you for getting it done. Hope the time change helps you!

I am not loving the dark mornings either. Or it being pitch dark when I leave the office in the evening.

Wow on the castle. I don’t think we have any of those around here.

    Happy Halloween!

The dark makes it so challenging! The U.K. actually fell back this weekend, so I have one week where I am an hour closer to my colleagues and family in the US! It’s kind of nice.

Halloween was so lowkey and weird. Since my husband hasn’t been feeling great, I’ve just been so bogged down and haven’t had the time to make things epic. A had a great time with his buddy, and that’s what counts.
