Back At It

Back At It

After a few days of vacation for just B and me, we are back to the grind – but it’s the summer grind/routine, so at least that means sleeping late!

This week started in Florida, but we came back Sunday night and the rest of the week were back to our typical summer routine. A little slower mornings, daylight runs, and continued hip PT and weights. Oh, and a combination of swimming lessons, softball, and baseball every night 🙂 But that’s all fun.

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 3.1 miles running in FLORIDA, hip PT, 1 mile walk

It was our last day on vacation, and we had to head to the airport around 8:30, so I set my alarm to get in an early run. The sun was rising above the water when I woke up, and it was gorgeous! I also got in an airport walk – after we checked in, B watched our stuff/ate breakfast while I did a few laps around our terminal. I wanted to move a little before sitting for several hours, and I’m glad I was able to.

Monday: 5.05 mile run/walk, 2.65 mile walk, hip PT, shoulder and leg workout

Back to our regular Mondays! I got up, got in a run, did my hip PT and weights. I also got in a nice walk during the day. It felt good to be outside and it cooled down a ton!

Tuesday: 5.2 mile run, back and bicep workout, hip PT

It was another beautiful morning! I woke up, got in some weights and PT, and headed out for a run. My knee is still not 100%, but it was feeling good enough for 5 slow miles, which I will take. Especially when it is 60 degrees at 6 a.m.!

Wednesday: 5.16 miles morning run, hip PT, core workout, some legs

With my knee still somewhat 100%, I did only part of my leg workout, focusing on kettlebells. Those felt alright, so after I did my core workout and hip PT, I headed outside for a run! It was a slow one (body was tired) with a little walking, but a beautiful morning. I did see lots of trees still down from a storm we had had earlier in the week – it happened Sunday and I hear there are still people without power!

Thursday: 4.12 mile jog outside, hip PT, core workout, 1 mile treadmill walk while working, 2.5ish mile evening walk with FW

I had to shorten my workout because I needed to be on my laptop at a certain time to register the kids for swimming, but I still was able to get in some core, hip PT and a run/walk. It was another beautiful morning!

That evening, FW’s 8:15 baseball game was postponed so we unexpectedly had some time to ourselves while GM and LM were at swimming. We decided to go for a walk! I expected us to only end up walking for a few blocks, but we ended up going around a nearby lake and to our nature center. It was a gorgeous night!

Friday: 6.23 mile run, hip PT, core workout, 1.94 mile walk, 2 mile treadmill walk while working

My legs were sore (2 days later!) after Wednesday’s kettlebells, so I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to run. After my core workout and hip PT, I decided to try to jog a little and then see if I could walk some. Well, my first mile felt surprisingly good, as did the next, so I just kept going. I made it to a morning 10K, under 10min/miles! I love summer running – it’s light out, and also, no training schedule. Just get out and run whatever I run!

I was lucky enough to get into more walks during the day, one with the family to pick up some breakfast and treats which we enjoyed on the porch, and another while I was working.

Saturday: 5 mile stroller run/walk, hip PT

When I woke up, GM asked me if we could go for a stroller run. We hadn’t done that in forever, and now that he’s 4 (almost 5!), I’m not sure when the last time we will do this will be, so of course I had to say yes. We ran 2ish, walked a bit and ran/walked the rest.

Later that morning, we all played pickleball! “Played” is use loosely- but it was fun as a family.

Total: 33.71 miles running, plus walking, weights and hip PT

Some questions for you:

  • Have you been watching the World Cup?
  • Did the weather cool down for you this week at all?

It’s great to hear that you had such a nice time in Florida celebrating your anniversary with your husband!

Yes, absolutely take advantage of any stroller run your son asks for because they grow up so fast!

We had some decent weather again this past week with lower humidity and lots of sunshine. I’ll take it!

A big fat NO to both your questions- it won’t cool down here till November. And I’m not into soccer- I’ve tried but I just can’t get interested in it.

I forgot about the knee injury- I guess it’s feeling pretty good because you ran a lot this week. Yes, summer schedules are nice! I like more sleep and running in the daylight. Glad to hear everything is feeling good with you.

What a fun family week for you! To answer your questions, no we are not watching the World Cup (not soccer fans) and sadly yes, it has really cooled off here. We’ve had a lot of rain and are waiting for more!

That lake walk looks so beautiful and yes, definitely do the stroller runs when you get the opportunity! That kid will be a teen soon enough! It looks like you had a great week with family fun and workouts. I’ve been following the World Cup especially when I was with my parents, now I check the results to know what happens. Here in Ireland we have a lovely heatwave now and I don’t want it to cool down!

After a very hot (and humid) week in Houston, the low-60F temps felt really cold today (in Iowa). I have to agree with what you said about summer running…no schedule, just running what feels good. I totally rocked that strategy last week, LOL.

what a great airport/ travel day strategy! well done! and you got some nice miles in this week. The kids really look happy 🙂 It’s nice that they are enjoying their summer so far! Not really following the games, but got sucked in on Saturday while the Netherlands played (smashed) Sweden. we have a pub about 5 min from here, nice little neighborhood bar and they were showing the game. It was nice that it was just a small venue with people behaving normally rather than in town where people are too drunk to even watch ( I sound like an old curmudgeon now haha).

It was actually 10 degrees cooler than normal up North! Highs were around 65 degrees. It was quite nice! Sounds like summer is in full swing at your house now. It’s always nice to sleep in a bit. Enjoy!!

Some Florida time sounds wonderful! I love some family pickleball as well. I am not watching the World Cup but I am enjoying hearing what the fans from other countries are saying about the USA. Many people are negative about our country but there’s a lot to love. It’s been cooler and rainy here but the heat will be back this weekend.
