Hello from Atlanta!
We’re back on vacation — this time with the whole family! FW’s birthday was this week, and as part of the fun, we decided to take a family vacation.
Thanks to vacation, and me trying to take it somewhat easy due to some hip pain, I had a low mileage week. But it was definitely a fun week! Here’s what it looked like:
Sunday: 4.75 mile treadmill walk, chest and tricep workout, hip PT, 2.85 mile outdoor walk
Happy Father’s Day! B was gone early to golf with his dad and brothers, so I had to stick to the treadmill. I set an alarm and woke up to get in a workout while the kids were sleeping. I decided to give my hip a rest and focus on walking, plus weights. That morning, while B was golfing, the kids and I decided to go for a walk. We walked to the nature center near us and ended up getting in 2.85 miles! It started as a walk to see a lake, then a walk to see turtles (we saw some!), then a walk to the nature center … it was great!
Then we met up with B and his family to celebrate Father’s Day. It was a beautiful day! We ended the day at the pool, where B did laps and I watched him and the kiddos. It was in the 60s and that’s just a little too cold for me to swim 🙂
Monday: 2.75 mile walk/run in the morning, hip PT, shoulder and leg workout, back bicep workout, core, 2.65 mile mid-day walk
I woke up feeling my hip and knee – and it was pouring out – so it seemed like a good day to just mostly walk. I focused on hip PT, some core, and some weights, then got in some walking with a few spurts of jogging here and there. I also got in a mid-day walk in between the rain. I was in the office, so I did get in lots of steps walking to and from meeting rooms, our cafeteria, etc.
Tuesday: 3.1 miles mostly walking, leg workout, hip PT
FW’s birthday!! I woke up and got in a leg workout and then a 10K outside. It was a beautiful day! The rest of the day didn’t include much activity – besides celebrating FW and going to his baseball game at night. I can’t believe he is already 10 years old!
Wednesday: 2.75 miles treadmill walking, some core and hip/hamstring PT, 2 mile jog
I had an EARLY morning! I had to leave the house by 7:05 for a dr appt so I got up super early to work out .. but you know who else got up super early because he had a bad dream? GM … soooo, my workout wasn’t quite what I would have liked (and it was all indoors with GM), but I was glad to have gotten in some movement. My hip was feeling a little sore so I opted not to finish my leg workout from the day before and just focus on core, hip PT, walking and jogging.
Thursday: 4.5 mile jog/walk, short core workout, hip PT
I did a longer hip PT/strength workout, and then had time for a short core workout before getting outside for a jog to test the hip. I will be honest, it wasn’t feeling great. The doctor told me it’s okay for me to run on it but I’m not sure if a few days off would help it feel better? Or maybe less sitting? Which isn’t ideal because Thursday night we were leaving for a car trip – we were driving to Atlanta, which was 12+ hours in the car!
Friday: 2.12 treadmill miles, some weights
After getting into the hotel room in Knoxville after midnight, I was tired when we woke up! But our hotel had an amazing gym, so I was dying to get in a short run, some weightlifting, before meeting up with the family at the amazing hotel pool.

The day also included some walking around Knoxville, ice cream, a book store and meeting up with one of B’s cousins, and then hitting the road for our final destination, Atlanta! When we got there, the first thing the kids wanted to do is get in the pool there. I had two times and two different pools and two different states in one day!

Saturday: 3.3 mile run, hip PT
I set an alarm so I can get in a short run before B and his friend had plans to play pickleball, so I would be watching the kids for the morning. That meant some more pool time with the kids, before we headed downtown as a family for the FIFA fan fest!

We had originally planned to go to a World Cup game, but tickets ended up being more than $3,000 a seat when we looked, so we ended up just going to The Fan Festival and then the aquarium. It would have been really cool to go to a game, but the kids loved the aquarium!

Total: 19.18 miles running, plus walking, hip PT
Some questions for you:
- Did you get tickets to any World Cup games?
- Have you been to the Atlanta Aquarium? I learned that is the largest aquarium in the western hemisphere.
