Oh deer

It is starting to truly feel like fall here! While my lunch walks are still sunny and 70ish, the mornings are getting chillier – and sadly, darker. And the deer – oh boy, the deer! Every morning, afternoon and evening I see tons of deer out. Baby deer, bucks, females, etc. They’re all over it seems! Luckily they’re pretty used to humans so when I go for my runs I don’t spook them, but I still try to be careful around them just in case.

The week was busy-ish – Sunday included a dumpling-making class with my sisters-in-law, Tuesday was one of my book clubs, and Thursday was another! And yes, I still got in some running, walking and lifting. Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: 10 miles running, hip PT, short weight workout

Back to my long run Sunday! It was drizzly and looked like it would rain nearly all morning/day, so I put on a hat, some running clothes, and got out the door. It rained on and off throughout my run, so much that I was SOAKED to the bone when I was done and very eager for a hot shower. It had been some time since I’d felt that wet! I felt like my fingers were wrinkly nearly the entire rest of the day. That night, I got to enjoy a dumpling-making class with my sisters-in-law! We made and ate tons of them – it was a lot of fun.

Monday: 5 miles run, hip PT, shoulder workout, 2.3 mile walking

After Sunday’s 10 miler, I wasn’t planning on getting in more than a few miles. But once I got outside, the weather was crisp (60s!) and my legs felt good. I ended up with just enough time to run 5 miles, feeling tired but good the whole time. Then, it was time to get to the office for work.

Tuesday: 5.02 mile run, hip PT, back and bicep workout, 3.1 mile walk

Pretty standard but full Tuesday: I had work, then book club, and knew that meant I’d be tired Wednesday – so I tried to get in some good movement Tuesday morning. I woke up this morning to temps in the 50s for the first time in several months – so I was eager to get outside and see how a run felt. It felt pretty good and I was able to get in 5 miles with mostly running and then a walk later in the day. And yes, I saw deer.

Wednesday: 2.25 miles walk/run on the treadmill, hip PT, leg workout, plus 6.73 miles walking

As I thought, I would be tired today after book club Tuesday – and I was! I got started on my PT 35 min later than usual, and then it was pouring out when it would’ve been time for my run. I ended up focusing on a leg workout and then by the time I was done, I had time for just a very short walk/run on the treadmill. I did get in some walking during the day, including a few miles over a few different times of day, including an outdoor walk (with more deer).

Thursday:  5 mile outdoor run, hip PT, chest workout and 6.79 miles walking

I was actually feeling good on this run, despite sleeping in. The weather was in the 50s – brrr — but that was good for the run! I ran fast (for me for a morning run) and enjoyed getting in 5 miles before racing home to get ready for the day. I also got in some walks during the day again after the sun came out. I did see more deer but didn’t take any photos.

That night was my other book club! This meeting I was able to walk to, and it was nice enough for us to enjoy our discussion on the patio. Maybe our last outdoor book club of the season though – it got chilly by the night’s end!

Friday: 7.27 mile run, hip PT, 3.05 mile walk

I was out at my other book club Thursday night, but still woke up early enough to get in a little bit of a longer run Friday, since I didn’t have any weight lifting plans. I would’ve run a little longer, but it was time to get ready to go to the kids’ school early for Muffins with Mom!

Saturday: 5.03 mi stroller run, hip PT, shoulder workout

GM got up before anyone else did, so I decided to do something we haven’t done in a while – a stroller run! He’s bigger now but it was fun to get out there with him and run and get some bagels. It was also chilly out – it was 50s when we went out for the run so he bundled up!

Later we had soccer and other activities – it warmed up to 70s by the time of soccer and it was a great day! My daughter’s team won and it was a good self-esteem booster after a few weeks of losses.

Total: 39.69 miles running, walking, hip PT and weight training

Some questions for you:

  • Do you see deer on your run often? Or other wildlife? Around here, I see deer, a coyote sometimes, lots of bunnies, skunks, chipmunks, etc.
  • Did you have beautiful fall weather near you?

I see deer on my runs from time to time. I don’t catch them in my yard, but I’m pretty sure they stole our cherry tomatoes!

Way to go on getting all those runs in after busy nights.

Yay on your daughter’s soccer team win! It really does feel good when you break a losing streak.

In your Wednesday picture of the deer, the cat on the front porch is eyeing the deer and wondering why it’s eating his humans’ plants. We see deer regularly in our back yard, just passing through from one forested area to another. They’re fun to see, but I don’t like it when they stop to eat my flowers.

The trail you ran on on Thursday is so pretty! I think I’d be spending a lot of my runs/walks on there.

Yay for your daughter’s team’s soccer win! I’m sure that was a moral booster.

A deer.. and a cat on the porch! So cute! I haven’t seen a lot of deer yet, but I haven’t been home long. Tis the season! That dumpling making class does sound fun.
