The End of a Streak?

What constitutes the end of a running streak?

Since April 2020, I’ve run at least one mile every day. In the beginning for me this meant 4-5 miles/day. As I’ve gotten more and more pregnant, and bigger and bigger, I told myself to “just run one mile.” Then after that, I would walk/run the rest. But as if this week (Day 412), my “just run one mile” turned into “can you walk/run one mile”? And that’s when I wondered – is my streak over? Does a walk/run count for a streak?

If a walk/run counts, I’m still streaking.

If it’s running without stopping, then day 411 was my last day.

Here’s what this week looked like from a running standpoint:

Sunday: 2.5 miles

Monday: 4.4 miles

Tuesday: 4.5 miles

Wednesday: 4.66 miles

Thursday: 4.75 miles

Friday: 4.88 miles

Saturday: 3.11 miles

Total: 28 mi

Weeks Pregnant: 34

Running Streak: Day 411? 415?

Some highlights from the week:

Sunday, we went on a long hike with the kids! We went to a trail that overlooks the lake and it was great to get out with the kids and explore somewhere new before baby #3 arrives.

On one of my runs this week, I saw a momma and baby deer! She was very protective of the fawn, but I did manage to catch this photo.

On another run, I ran by a lake that they have recently drained. It’s a really old dam, and they’re doing some studies to see if they’ll need to update it, etc.

Some questions for you

  • What do you count as a running streak? Is any walking involved at all?
  • Are you seeing fawns out now that it’s almost summer?

  1. I think “technically” a running streak is at least a 1-mile (minimum) run every day. It looks like you’re still going above and beyond the 1-mile benchmark (even with the run/walk intervals). But, I think a streak is what YOU make it to be…you are staying quite active regardless of how you’re getting those miles done. So, keep on keeping on (but, as you know, with caution).

  3. I think it just depends on what you want it to be! If you want to be able to say you did a running streak, its probably just up until you stopped running the full mile. But streaks can include walking too, so if you want to keep counting your run/walks I think thats great! Because late in pregnancy, getting out for any kind of movement should be celebrated.

  4. I think you can make up your own “rules” — especially when you’re pregnant! It’s great that you are staying so active, no matter what the pace. Your family hike looks fun.

  5. Yep, I agree that you get to set the rules. I would personally say that as long as you’re doing some running, you can still count it.
    That fawn… so adorable!

  6. I agree with Cari-your streak, your rules! I run/walk in mine. Once during the Winter I didn’t even make it to one mile because of the snow. I am on day #292. If you can and want to then keep going. Great job!
