Sunrise Runs

The days are truly getting shorter, as summer is coming to an end. And one sure sign of this is the fact that it is dark when I wake up, and getting light while I run. The good news is, I’ve been able to catch some beautiful sunrises! And I know these running sunrises are limited, because as soon as school starts, I’ll be up and outside earlier.

Here’s what the week looked like:

Sunday: 9.65 miles running, hip PT, .8ish mile walk

This felt good! It was supposed to rain all morning, so I was pleasantly surprised when it ended up being sunny all day and perfect weather for my run (sunny, 70s). I was also surprised at how good this felt!

Later in the day, my daughter and I got in a little walk for ice cream. My nephew is working at an ice cream shop, so we were able to visit and buy ice cream from him while he was there.

Monday: 5.01 mile run, weight training (shoulders, back, biceps), hip PT

I had a busy day, which meant not as many steps as I would’ve liked. I did get in a morning run, but there was no time for walks during the day!

Tuesday: 5.01 mile run, hip PT, weight workout (some legs + back/biceps), 2 miles walking

I was dragging this morning, and I didn’t get out of bed and starting my workout for almost 20 minutes after I intended … woops! I was still able to get in some running, short weights workout and then a walk afterwards.

Wednesday: 5.5 miles walk/run total, hip PT, leg + core workout, 1.35 mile walk

I was tired again this morning after staying up a little later than usual on Tuesday (thanks to book club and chatting with my brother), so didn’t get out to run right away. I was glad to get in 5.5 miles, plus some walking, weights and core.

Thursday: 6.32 mile outdoor run, 2.3 mile walk while working, hip PT, pilates core workout, 2 mile walk at lunch

After all that running S-W, I was tired! I decided to get in a walk … but of course when I got out there, I wanted to run. So I tried mostly walking with a little bit of walking thrown in, and it felt good. I also did some deep core and hip strengthening work.

I also got in a bit of slow treadmill walking while working – I had a long newsletter to proofread and decided to do it while walking to get in some steps and also help my brain focus.

Friday: 7.11 mile run, 2.27 mile walk, hip PT, core workout

I had gone to bed late Thursday so I wasn’t sure how much I’d be able to run, but I felt pretty good on Friday! My hip was acting up a little bit so I made sure to get in some PT exercises before getting outside. And bonus – it was a gorgeous sunrise!

Since it was Friday, we also walked as a family in the morning to our local bakery to pick up some challah plus breakfast treats. I didn’t get any other walks during the day, so this was a perfect activity before starting work.

Saturday: 7.11 mile run, hip PT

Got out, got in a run, did my PT, and then we were off to start our day! We had a few activities planned for the day, including FW’s piano lesson PLUS a makeup lesson, a Target run and a few other errands planned for the morning into early afternoon. It was so nice to not have any other activities planned – our last weekend until soccer games start!

Total: 45.98 miles running, walking, hip PT

Some questions for you:

  • Are you outside during the sunrise?
  • Do you have a garden?

I love those sunrise skies! I’m up very early on my pool days, so i’ve been seeing some pretty skies on those mornings. Soon, I’ll see them on my runs too!

When are the kids back at school?

The big kids go back in a week and a half – my youngest is in two weeks. I am not ready as you know!

      Sunrise swims sound lovely!

How fun to be able to walk to get ice cream and how cool that your nephew works at the shop. Your daughter will cherish those memories forever!

I am almost always up before the sunrise, but often see it from the basement gym rather than from outside. Back when I ran, I saw it from the trail most days. 🙂

Ooh a trail sunrise sounds delightful! I’ve been loving my trail runs over the summer, but when the kids are back at school, it’s too dark for me to run on the trails so it’s back to the neighborhood for me.

How nice to be able to walk on a treadmill while working! Do you have one of those small treadmills under your desk? If I had a larger office I’d love to have one!

Sunrises are so beautiful, and I much prefer that rather than sunsets – the morning light is so pretty. I wish I could make myself get up early and go out at sunrise for photography but I never seem to manage. Perhaps this autumn I can get my sh** together with it.

I’ve been wanting a walking pad for my desk, but I actually just sometimes put my laptop on my actual treadmill. It’s not the best for typing, but it’s not bad if I’m doing a lot of proofreading.

You probably know I love my sunrises. Unfortunately, it’s been too rainy and/or foggy recently to see much. Last week was pretty damp!

You really have had such awful weather! Hopefully you’re able to take advantage of some outdoor runs this week.

I know- we have to cherish these lighter mornings while we have them! School has started here, but I haven’t started my early morning runs yet. I just can’t bring myself to get up that early. I’ve been running later in the day, but that gets complicated sometimes. I need to switch back to early mornings.

Your nephew works in an ice cream store! Within walking distance!!! I think you need to support him as much as possible and go every night until school starts : )

I should have clarified that he works in an ice cream shop near my kids school. We were at their school for an event and we were able to walk from there. It would be dangerous if we could walk through everyday from our house! I imagine he will cut down his hours when he’s back at school.
