Well, 2/3 of the kids are back to school! That means earlier (and darker) mornings, rushed afternoons, but back at a routine, which isn’t that bad. And next week, GM goes back and for the first time ever, they’ll all be in the same school. It’s exciting and also I’m sad that summer and this part of our year is over.
Here’s what the week looked like, including some (sadly) darker morning runs:
Sunday: 8 miles running, hip PT, chest and tricep workout
I set my alarm to get out somewhat earlier than usual, because I wanted to spend a little time with my parents before they headed back to NY. They still ended up heading out early, but I did get to see them for breakfast and as they packed up. It was a gorgeous morning – cooler than it has been, sunny and a perfect breeze for a run. I also got in my hip PT.
Monday: 6.02 mile run, weight training (shoulders, started back, biceps), hip PT, 1.75 mile walk
Last Monday of no school! I enjoyed sleeping “late,” before getting in some weights, PT and a run. It was 60 degrees, which felt really good for a run! I also got in a walk with GM to grab bagels for the day. It was bittersweet to know that we have
Tuesday: 6.22 mile run, hip PT, weight workout (some legs + back/biceps)
My LAST sunrise run before school! I tried to run to some scenic areas and truly just enjoy the views. And that was what I did.

Wednesday: 5.54 miles walk/run total, hip PT, core workout and some weights, 2ish mile walk
Just as I assumed, getting up an hour earlier meant a dark, cooler run. I thankfully felt good and after some weights got in a faster than usual run.

Then it was the first day of school for the big kids! Both kids had a great day, which made my heart so happy, but the house felt strange without them around. GM was home and kept me busy, and we even got in a lunchtime walk to pick up some bread and a bagel sandwich for him.
Thursday: 5.02 mile outdoor walk/run, hip PT, core + chest workout
I struggled on this run! I got outside, in the dark, and immediately felt no motivation. I told myself I’d walk 3 miles, then of course I started to run and made it 5 miles walking and running before it was time to get home to get ready for work. If this is what the school year is going to be like, I am in trouble. I already miss the sun!
Friday: 5.56 mile run, hip PT, core and short weight workout, 2 miles walking while working and 2 mile lunch walk
TGIF! I made it through 3 days of school for 2 kids – and I definitely didn’t love the earlier mornings, but I survived. I woke up to rain but while I was doing my PT and weights, it ended so I got out for a run. I felt good – better than Thursday! I was also able to finally get in some walking during the day. I got in a treadmill walk while doing work/proofreading a few documents, and then a 35 minute lunch walk. Yay!
Saturday: 7.1 mile run, hip PT, 2 mi walk
Oh my goodness, after 3 days of waking up EARLY and going out in the DARK it was such a blessing to be able to get outside in the SUN and sleep in a little bit! I got in 7 miles and it felt really good. Also, the deer were out! I ran on a few paths and a few times I had to redirect because there were deer in my way, including a mom with 2 babies who meant business. I also saw another coyote but it ran away too fast for me to snap a pic.

The day was really busy but also really fun. We had LM’s first school soccer game of the season, followed by an ice cream social for the girls’ teams.
Then, we went apple picking, which is my favorite!

At night, there was a music festival in our town, so we enjoyed some live Mariachi music at a Mexican restaurant, and then walked around outside to listen to the outdoor music they had with the streets closed. It was a perfect night and so much fun!

Total: 43.47 miles running, walking, hip PT
OK this is wild – but I had THIS MANY MILES exactly (43.47) last week, too! With 7 very different days. Whoa!
Some questions for you:
- Do you have a goal # of miles to run? OR a “feel good” number? I like 30-40 but it will go down during the winter as I don’t love the dark and ice. So enjoying the 40ish weeks of late!
- Have the deer been all out near you?
