WIAW: 36 Cent Brownie Sundaes

AND we’re finally at Wednesday. I’m not going to lie – I thought most of yesterday was Wednesday. But it wasn’t. I no longer have any sense of days of the week … does that ever happen to you?  But I digress. TODAY is Wednesday. And that means it’s a good day to share my eats and see what you are all up to and eating as well. Yup, it’s another What I Ate Wednesday!

My day started with some egg white oats. Egg whites, oats, flaxseed, brewer’s yeast and some dried fruit. Yum!

20170117_081826

And I had some boobie / energy bites for a snack/mid-morning dessert. 20170117_094133

And a handful of nuts. What can I say – I ran 6 miles in the morning and was HUNGRY! 20170117_105930

For lunch, we had a meeting out of the office at the new Yours Truly restaurant downtown. I had never been to a YT before, but it’s like a diner with tons of breakfast and other options. I debated heavily getting breakfast for a while, but finally decided on their Envelope – it’s a ginormous pita (it’s bigger than my fork!) stuffed with tons of veggies and dressing on the side. It was actually just what I was looking for and I’d definitely get it again! 20170117_125811

After the Envelope, I got dessert. We don’t typically get dessert after lunch meetings, but in honor of YT’s 36th anniversary, their dessert was only 36 cents!! That’s right – 36 CENTS FOR THIS GINORMOUS BROWNIE SUNDAE.  How could I say no?20170117_132250

I should’ve been stuffed after lunch, but I ended up snacking on another energy ball and some kombucha. I LOVE this flavor.

20170117_115256

I made B and I dinner after feeding FW some carrots (he’s not a fan). What was for dinner? Some sauerkraut, grilled pork loin, and whole roasted cauliflower and potatoes. 20170117_194137

And that, my folks, was my day. Not a bad one – after all, a 36 cents sundae in the middle of the day is a pretty good day in my book 🙂

Some questions for you:

  • If you’re at a diner-type place, would you get breakfast for lunch?
  • What’s your favorite breakfast-for-lunch or breakfast-for-dinner meal?

WIAW: Lunch Mishmash

Cheers to Wednesday! I don’t know about you – but being back after the holidays has been rough. I’ve been tired and getting over being sick – so I’m definitely happy it’s finally Wednesday – and time for  What I Ate Wednesday!

Egg white oats to start my day. I mix in some flaxseed and brewer’s yeast too!

img_20170105_084603_977

Morning snacks included some mixed nuts and boobie balls (aka energy balls for all you non-breastfeeding folks.20170105_121815

I love leftovers for lunch. I had leftover spicy chicken burger, peppers/onions and a bite of a salmon burger. Random? Yes I know – but that’s what I love. A mishmash! 20170105_131231

Snacktime included another apple and some cashews…yummmmmm – I love that mix of sweet and salty.20170105_153201

And dinner was mostly a freezer meal! It was turkey chili I had made a few weeks ago, along with some new cornbread.  I attempted to make cornbread without any milk (because I didn’t have any) – my usual recipe calls for buttermilk – and it turned out pretty good! It was a little more crumbly than usual but I managed to eat a few pieces (not pictured).20170105_194123
And that was it. A great meal for a snowy evening and I then passed out before dessert (okay, who am I kidding – I had a few pieces of cornbread for dessert, too).

Another week, another What I Ate Wednesday.
Some questions for you:

  • Do you have a favorite cornbread recipe?
  • What do you typically do for lunch – go out? Mishmash? Leftovers? Pre-planned meal?

WIAW: Some Holiday Eats

Happy Holidays!! I had such a wonderful time visiting family in New York and celebrating FW’s first Christmasukah. He’s 6 months old now – woweee! – but still too young to really know what was going on. He did have some fun eating the paper that gifts came in, though. Speaking of eating, here is a bunch of holiday eats for today’s What I Ate Wednesday. Instead of just one day, here’s a sample of some of the great food I had during the holidays.

Breakfasts were a spin on what I usually have – some oats with dried fruit, brewer’s yeast and this time topped with my mom’s granola.

20161224_092302

Lunches were leftovers … so no real food pics except trust me – see what we had for dinner and picture that for lunch 🙂

Of course there was plenty of snacking, including appetizers each night like fruit, cheese, nuts, hummus and baba.20161225_174328

Now onto the meals. We had ham one night for dinner. Lasagna. Chicken rollatini. All of those are sadly unpictured. But another night,  we feasted on a giant turkey breast.20161223_184312

And butternut squash. 20161223_184453

Oh, side dishes included pasta and noodle pudding. Because you can never have too much pasta 🙂20161224_193537

We also had this beautiful chicken one night. It was so good, I’ll have to make it sometime soon!img_20161222_194137_615

Don’t worry – while I was incredibly lazy for most of my trip, I did get in 2 walks and 2 runs. Doesn’t FW look so happy to be with me?

20161225_134041

After dinner, I often had tea. And sometimes an after dinner drink 🙂20161225_205031

And of course- dessert! We feasted on cookies and cake each night. My favorite? orange cake (not pictured) and the ginger shortbread cookies and these gingersnaps. I have a thing for ginger.  20161224_205137

Yum…is it bad that I miss those holiday eats already? My mouth is watering reliving them for today’s What I Ate Wednesday!
Some questions for you:

  • What is your go-to holiday cookie?
  • Did you travel for the holidays?

WIAW: brinner and bacon! (and the worst dinner pic ever)

Happy happy Wednesday! I know I’m usually cheering for the middle of the work week, but today I’m off!! That’s right- I’m off for the holidays and will soon be with my family in NY and I can’t wait! Our days will be filled with holiday goodies, snacks and of course, wintry delicious meals. In the meantime. Here is today’s What I Ate Wednesday – yesterday’s meals. Featuring breakfast for dinner and BACON!

Admittedly, the day wasn’t the healthiest. Or at least it didn’t start off that way- because I started the day with a gingerbread cookie! I just made these and they are so so so good!! Here is the recipe.

20161219_164449

Lunch was some egg white oatmeal with brewer’s yeast and flaxseed for BF-ing,  plus some fruit salad.

20161220_115402

And some delicious crunchy peanut butter. Yes, I ate more than just that spoonful 🙂

20161220_143454

For dinner I had a GREAT brinner and beer. And the photo was awful!! I’m so sorry – but instead, imagine a holiday beer – Shiner Holiday Cheer – and eggs, egg whites, spinach, nitrate-free bacon and toast.

20161220_192114

Aforementioned awful blurry photo. If you blur your eyes it almost looks normal! 20161220_194426

And cookies!! B brought home some cookies for work and I tried a few. My favorite were the coconut macaron and that green tree sugar cookie. 20161220_192101

There we go – another What I Ate Wednesday. Some questions for you:

  • What’s your favorite holiday beer?
  • How often do you do brinner?

WIAW: Vitamin C!

Happy hump day! That’s right it’s WEDNESDAY. Which means it’s totally time for What I Ate Wednesday.  (and no, it’s not Friday yet)

Today’s eats are from Monday. I’ve been fighting a cold coming on for the past few days and have been trying to get rest (unsuccessfully), take it easy (semi-successfully) and up my Vitamin C. So on this day I had TWO oranges! Well, one orange and one tangelo. Stay tuned…

Breakfast started with some egg white oats. I’ve been adding some brewer’s yeast and flaxseed to mine lately to help with my milk supply. Not sure if it’s working, but they tasted good! Oh and of course-  said tangelo.

20161212_084243 20161212_093325

Lunch was part leftover salad from Stone Oven (their Janea salad has tabbouleh, chicken, feta, roasted red pepper, couscous and amazing croutons – I’m hooked!) and part sweet potato that I roasted.Plus some fruit salad (a mini pear and thats right – an orange!) and baby carrots.

20161212_131725

I had a late work meeting so around 4 p.m. I decided to have some mixed nuts and a few of these boobie balls. Or energy balls – whatever you want to call them. This batch has mini chocolate chips and M&Ms in them – perfect for an afternoon sweet fix!

20161212_152909

Since I had a client meeting that started at 5:30 p.m., B was on daycare pick AND dinner duty. He made me dinner of runny eggs, beans and spinach – and it hit the spot.

20161212_193021

Yes, there’s a baby in the background!

20161212_192855

Oh, and I ended the day with some chocolate. B had picked up a box of chocolates from a local chocolatier over the weekend and I couldn’t help but dive in. YUM!

20161212_195609

That was it for my What I Ate Wednesday eats! I hope that I start to feel better soon – this vitamin C better do the trick! Since I’m still bf-ing, there’s not much in terms of cold meds that I can take.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you have any tricks to fighting or shortening colds?
  • Do you have a favorite nut?

WIAW: A [Semi] Day Off and Thanksgiving Leftovers!

As I mentioned, B and I were supposed to go back to New York and celebrate Thanksgiving with my family, but sadly our plans fell through. Since we had already planned to take a day off, we decided to keep the day off and just do a little work among enjoying a relaxing day together. Confession: I still put in 4.5hours of work – BUT – it was still great to be in my PJs all day, go out to breakfast and take a walk in the afternoon.

Because I was off, we had a great day of food. So here are some of those eats for today’s  What I Ate Wednesday! For breakfast B and I went out to the West Side Market diner and split two meals – sadly I only got a photo of the french toast. Whoops. But we split the french toast AND the hash. Both were great!

20161128_101449

Lunch was Thanksgiving leftovers! A little bit of turkey, some stuffing, veggies and cauliflower. Yum.

20161128_143848

My snack? Some of these Famous Amos cookies. I got them after our Thanksgiving Day 5 Miler (along with a banana of course) and opened up the package in the afternoon. They weren’t that bad!

20161128_180549

Dinner was spaghetti squash marinara. It included squash, some chicken sausage, spinach, sautéed onions, eggplant and of course tons of homemade pasta sauce and parmesan. Oh, and wine!

20161128_183156

I was totally going to have some Halo Top for dessert, but I got too tired and ended up going to bed around 9 p.m. Boring, I know! Especially since I picked up all these flavors this weekend!

20161127_162724

Some questions for you:

  • Do you have any go-to easy meals? Spaghetti squash marinara is one of mine!
  • Did you have Thanksgiving leftovers? I was so glad to have some for lunch!

WIAW: Pancakes for Brinner!

YAY for Wednesday! We’re halfway to Friday again. That means it’s a good day to share my eats and see what you are all up to and eating as well. Yup, it’s another What I Ate Wednesday!

Wednesday started with a coffee meeting. I had my first Starbucks holiday cup – I can’t believe it’s already that time of year! A decaf coconut milk latte was just what I needed to start my day.

20161110_092945

Breakfast was made for me by B – some egg whites, spinach and vegetables. It’s so good to be eating eggs and veggies again!

20161110_104713

Lunch was leftovers. Leftover salmon, roasted cauliflower, mashed cauliflower and roasted zucchini.20161110_132114

Snacks during the day included some energy bites and mixed nuts.

20161012_115035

While I prepped dinner, I also enjoyed some sliced pear.20161110_183455

Dinner was pancakes! I made some buttermilk pancakes and topped them with an apple butter and cinnamon apple compote. Yup, that’s FW in the background. He was just chilling while we ate dinner which was a nice change!img_20161110_191401

And that sums up my day of eats. No need for dessert when you have yummy pancakes for dinner!

Some questions for you:

  • Which do you prefer – pancakes, french toast or waffles?
  • Do you like pears?

WIAW: Post-World Series Eats

YAWN. I am still tired from last week – Cleveland was crazy, people. We had the World Series here which meant a few late nights and not as much sleep as normal (which is limited anyway now that I have a four month old …). Sadly, we lost the final game – BUT I was there! That’s right, I WENT to Game 7 of the World Series. It was an amazing experience. And today, I’m sharing with you  – the day after. Post-World Series eats for this week’s What I Ate Wednesday.

See-  my ticket!!

20161102_171059

My view. Wednesday night. 20161102_195249

Okay, now onto the actual food. Breakfast was some egg white oatmeal with dried fruit. I’m getting WAAAYY too into this meal. I added flaxseed and brewers yeast for some extra BF goodness.20161102_082911

Snack? Mixed nuts. 20161103_095754

Lunch was some delicious squash with honey and cinnamon.20161103_135908

AND some spaghetti squash with spinach and tomato sauce, plus cheese and pepperoni.20161103_135914

An afternoon snack was this green apple.20161103_150234

And dinner was breakfast!! I love brinner sometimes – B made me egg whites, tomato, spinach and avocado. And delicious Amish bread. I love breakfast for dinner!

20161103_194523

Oh, and wine. After a few stressful days at work, it was needed!20161103_195024

And that sums up my day of eats for the day after the World Series. Questions for you:

  • Do you do breakfast for dinner often?
  • What’s your favorite squash?

WIAW: Bacon Makes it All Better

Happy What I Ate Wednesday ! Hopefully you’re enjoying a great week and you’re enjoying some beautiful fall weather. It was actually in the 70s this week and last weekend, which is not fall for Cleveland, but I’ll take it!

Here are some of my eats from last Thursday. The day started out with some egg white oatmeal. I’ve been hooked on this for the past few weeks and on this day was no different.  I made a ton which was so good and kept me full for most of the morning. I also had some pumpkin spice chai tea.

20161027_085131

I ended up having some  boobie balls (recipe here) as a snack before a late lunch. Sorry for the blurry balls 🙂

20161027_130135

Lunch was leftovers – and they were so good! I had some veggie hash the night before with sweet potatoes and zucchini and I put it on top of a bed of spinach with some BACON. OMG I love bacon and it had been forever since I last had some – it was the perfect lunch. Paired with a local apple!

20161027_130126

Snacks that afternoon included some mixed nuts AND a homemade apple streusel muffin.20161027_143215

This picture doesnt do it justice, but these muffins were amazing. They were the bomb dot com. Does anyone say that anymore?

20161027_174222

Dinner was fresh from my freezer with some add ins. My mom had made some chicken rollatini for me and brought it the last time she visited – it was SO GOOD and it was so nice not to have to cook! I had that on top of some Ohio City pasta and roasted zucchini. 20161027_195437

That was it for my What I Ate Wednesday eats.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you like bacon? Any kind in particular? I like turkey or regular. I bought regular pork bacon that was nitrate free and had that with our hash for leftovers.
  • Do you plan meals so you have leftovers for lunch? Yes, if I can!

WIAW: Will 2 Apples a Day Keep the Doctor Away?

I have no idea what day it is. I’m in the middle of a cold fog (you know, when you’re sick and not sure which way is up?) and also a fog from taking care of a sick baby who is not eating and suffering an ear infection. Oh what? It’s Wednesday? Well there you go – glad I could resurface just in time for What I Ate Wednesday. This was Monday’s eats. Right when I really started feeling sick.

The day started off with … some meds! Yup, we had a trip to the doctor in store for FW so all I had time for was some medication.* For me, and for FW. Lame, I know, but even though my morning started earlier (the baby was up at 4 a.m. instead of my usual 5 a.m. wakeup) and the doctor’s appointment wasn’t until 9:30, somehow the morning went by too fast and that’s all I had time for. Deal with it.

20161024_080413

*I learned that if you’re breastfeeding, there are also very few actual types of cold medication that are approved. Which also is probably adding to my sick-head-fog…lack of meds!

When I got into the office, I had time to eat a muffin and an apple (this is apple #1) before heading into meeting after meeting.

20161024_112921 20161024_142226

I had meetings through lunch, but luckily I had made some energy balls so I had a few of these before my afternoon of meetings.20161024_112949

When my meetings were over I ate this salad. I didn’t realize the photo was so blurry, but it was spinach, roasted sweet potato and delicata, tomatoes, some broccoli rabe and leftovers from a salad I had eaten over the weekend – chicken, edamame, feta, corn.20161024_153506

Afternoon snacks included another apple (apple #2!) and some almond butter.20161024_153740

AND this delicious drink I made with the Swanson apple cider vinegar – it was water, apple cider vinegar, fresh ginger, cinnamon and some truvia. 20161024_173901

Dinner was taco night!  We had leftover veal breast from an amazing dinner B had made Saturday and we decided to use the meat for tacos.

20161024_191611

This was my taco salad. I may have had a few extra bite after this salad as well.20161024_192623

BUT I still saved room for dessert – ice cream! It felt good on my sore throat.

20161024_174217

And that was my What I Ate Wednesday eats!
Some questions for you:

  • What do you like to eat when you’re sick?
  • Have you ever had any spicy ice creams?
