Technically Spring

While it was technically spring this week, it didn’t feel like it. We started the week with some chilly temps, but ended the week with SNOW (yes, really .. again!). I also ended the week feeling crummy, so this week’s Cleveland half marathon training was far from perfect. Here’s what it looked like:

Sunday: 3.6 mi run + 5 mi walk
I had 40 minutes crosstraining on the schedule, but I only have a treadmill, so I decided that meant 40 minutes on the treadmill while it was cold and rainy. I did 3.6 miles – run and walk – and then the weather got gorgeous out. So, we got out for a family walk. I got in 1.5 miles with everyone, then another 3.5 with G, meaning 5 outdoor walking for the day. My feet were pooped!

Monday: 5 miles – tempo run

Tuesday: 4.76 miles – easy outdoor run

Wednesday: 3.1 treadmill miles

I woke up to a heavy rain/wind, and G woke up around the same time. I was only able to get in a few miles before putting him back to bed, and then everyone else was up.

Thursday: 7.51 miles

I had looked ahead at the weather for the weekend, and thought maybe I’d get in a long run Friday or Thursday. And it’s a good thing I got it in Thursday because … it was the last day I ran this week!

Friday: NO morning run.

FW was up from 1-3 a.m., and then GM was up until around 4. Usually I set my alarm for 4:30 for a long run, so there was no way I was going to get in a run on less than 3 hours of sleep. So, I slept instead from 4:30-6 a.m. and didn’t run. I thought about going for a run during my lunch break, but then GM was sent home sick from school and we instead spent time cuddling, feeding him, etc. If there’s one thing I’ve learned is I can’t get frustrated with things outside my control. It’s hard, but I also need more than 3 hours of sleep 🙂

Saturday:  Another no run day – just some yoga.

FW had a fever throughout the night and morning, and B wasn’t feeling well either. Sure enough, I started feeling icky as well shortly after waking up. I did some yoga, thinking it was back pain, but later my full body started aching. It was cold and snowy so at least I didn’t waste a perfect running weather day!

Total weekly:  24.1 miles

So, another week that didn’t go as planned. I’m so glad I got in my long run on Thursday — two rest days isn’t bad and hopefully I’ll be back again next week.

Some questions for you:

  • Do you long run on weekends or weekdays?
  • Did winter come back near you this week, too?

  1. Oh boy, that sounds HARD! Those sleepless nights are so painful- glad you were able to get a little extra sleep instead of running. It sounds like you’re coming down with something… I hope you feel better soon! The good thing is you got in your important runs this week- a couple days off won’t make a difference.

  2. Oh, sorry to hear it was a rough week. You still got in some solid workouts (all that walking!). While we did have snow Thursday morning, none of it accumulated…but the temps were definitely more winter-like than spring last week. I know it won’t last forever (fingers crossed), but UGH.

  3. Sounds like a spring “bug” is making its way through your family. I hope everyone recovers quickly.

When I have a rough night of sleep I try to do *something* for my morning workout, but usually something light/easy with a low risk of injury. I certainly couldn’t do a long run!

  4. oh no sorry to hear that your little ones were not feeling well. Hope you all have a better week and get more sleep all around

  5. Snow! What?
It sounds like you have had one heck of a week. It’s so hard having sick littles. We are super low on sleep here, too. Between the puppy and travel and the weekend volunteering and camping, I am exhausted.
