This week was a good week of running, but man, we had some off days, thanks to some smoke days this week, I had to spend more time inside than I would’ve liked. The week started off with walking (thanks to my stitches), and then I was eager to get back to running but I ended up having to stay inside one day due to wildfire smoke from Canada. It was so smoky – even just going for a walk burned my eyes and nose after a few blocks!
I’m lucky I was still able to get in some workouts. Even without being able to lift weights, I got in some activity besides running. Here is what the week looked like:
Sunday: 9+ miles walking, hip PT, deep core workout
Still not being able to run because of my stitches, I was pleased to get in a lot of walking! The day included a long (6+ miles) solo walk in the morning, followed by a 2.5 mi family walk (we haven’t done one of those in ages!), and a short walk with just GM to a playground.
Monday: 6.24 miles running, non-weighted leg and deep core workout, hip PT, 2 mile walk with GM, 2 miles walking while working, 1.65 mile lunch walk
LOTS OF steps on Monday! With no weightlifting being allowed, I found an unweighted leg (mostly inner thigh) workout and did some of that before a deep core workout and my hip PT. I got in a slow run (first time in 3 days!) and then allllll the walks. First, a walk to and from a bakery with GM before my day started. Then, I also got in a short walk at lunch AND some walking while proofreading on the treadmill.
While on my run, I saw a coyote! This was the second time in a few weeks I’ve seen one, and this one was right on my running path, and spooked me a little. I stopped running, walked slowly away and crossed the street to get away from it. The last time I saw it, it hadn’t been nearly as close!

Tuesday: 6.53 mile run in the morning, hip PT, core and leg workout, 1.56 mile walk with GM, 2 miles walking while working, 2 mile walk at lunch
I started the day with a longer (15 minutes) core workout, then my hip PT. Then I headed out for a run. I was a little worried about the coyote, but I didn’t see it this morning – just a heron and lots of deer.
When I got home from my run, GM wanted to take a walk. We made it 1.56 miles, which was another great way to start my day.

Taking walks – especially with my kids – is great. We rarely get alone time, so the 1:1 time is appreciated. At lunch, I got in another walk around the local lakes, and then that night, FW and I took a short (probably .5 mile) walk.
Wednesday: 6.5 miles outdoor run, deep core workout, hip PT, some bodyweight leg exercises, 1.3 mile treadmill walk and 2.38 mile lunchtime walk
It was steamy outside with an air quality alert, so I wasn’t sure how I would be able to run. But I felt really good! I got in 6.5 miles, a deep core workout and my hip PT, along with a few bodyweight leg exercises. I also got in about 3.7 more miles of walking.

Thursday: 6.01 mile treadmill run, hip PT, deep core workout, short un-weighted arm workout, 2 mile lunch walk
Another day without lifting, so I focused on movement and easy workouts. I did a deep core workout and then a 5-minute unweighted arm workout. But oh my goodness- my arms were burning by the end ! Who would’ve thought it would be so hard to keep your arms up for 5 minutes? I then got in a 6 mile run. The outdoors was hazy from the Canadian wildfires so I wasn’t sure how my breathing would be – but 6 miles flew by. I also got in a 2ish mile lunch walk – but WOW that was different than my run. It was smoky, and I got home smelling like smoke and my nose even hurt somewhat.

Friday: 6.2 miles on the treadmill, hip PT, core workout
I woke up to another air quality advisory and after my experience with my Thursday walk, I decided to stay inside. I caught up on some series that I had been watching, and finished Off Campus! Ugh, I really loved the series and can’t believe I’m done with it – I was dragging it out because I didn’t want it to be over.

In addition to my coyote sighting (again!) earlier this week, I have also now seen a half a few times in our neighborhood and a bald eagle around our lakes. On Friday, I saw the hawk hanging out in our yard!

Saturday: 6.01 mile run, hip PT
We had to leave the house at 9 for a birthday party, so I set an alarm to get in a run – hopefully – outside! I woke up to still not the best air quality but it was SO MUCH better than yesterday!

I decided to still get outside and see how I felt – and overall, I felt pretty good! AND by the time I was done with my run, the air quality was under the 150s, so I felt good about my decision to be outside.
Total: 37.49 miles running, plus walking and hiking, hip PT
Some questions for you:
- How was your air quality this week?
- Have you watched Off Campus?
