Taking a Little Time Off

This should be a blog post about finishing off February strong, and kicking off Cleveland Half Marathon training. I always start training when the first week of March hits, but this year is a little different … but before I go to far into that, I do have some February highlights to share:

Here are some February highlights:

Total running mileage: 118.93

Other activities: Some walks, ab exercises 3-5 days/week every week, and one group run – the Cleveland Marathon Kickoff run

It’s Still February

Does anyone else feel like that February should be over already? I swear, February is the shortest month but it always feels like it’s the longest, especially this year. I really thought I was about to write a post that included all of February in review, but alas, that will have to wait for next week.

That said, it was a good week! My parents came into town and we had some good outside time with them and nice weather this weekend, which was great. Especially after last week’s up and down weather, having a beautiful Sunday and spending time outside with my whole family was GREATLY appreciated.

The Weather in the Land Goes Up and Down

Up and down … up and down! Our weather and temps have gone up and down this week. And I can’t complain, especially about the UP! It is back to seasonably normal weather right now, but it was in the upper 60s on Wednesday, which was just AMAZING. I ran in the dark in shorts!  The taste of spring was exactly what me and my body needed. But now, back to the cold …

February Sunshine

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Are you excited for the big game? In my past life (just a year ago), I worked at an ad agency, and this day was a BIG deal. Not for the sports, but instead for the ads. There were several years in a row that I was “working” the game, taking notes of ads, live tweeting and preparing blog posts or content for the agency to share immediately following the game. It was fun – but I’m glad to be just enjoying the game ads and food tonight.

But this isn’t a post about football – it’s about running!

Winter is still in full swing in Cleveland, but at least this week we got a break from the snow and ice, and enjoyed some blue skies for a few days. This made all the difference, and I even got to enjoy the sunshine on a few midday walks.

Kicking off February

I have two reasons to be excited about this week – first, we finished January and I had decent mileage and second, I did a group run! I rarely run with people, and it was nice to be social and get outside with fellow runners to kick off the Cleveland Marathon training cycle.  On a less exciting note, this week another wave of sickness made it through our house and forced me to take a day off. But I’m feeling all better now!

Here are some January highlights:

Total running mileage: 122.88

Other activities: Some walks PLUS I did ab exercises 3-5 days/week every week!

Lowlights: Getting covid. It didn’t stop me from running, but slowed me down somewhat, and I am still feeling like I am recoverin some days. Also, the weather. We had plenty of cold, icy and snowy days. I ran outside 17 days, and inside 14 days.

Tired and Ready

I have one more long run left until the Cleveland half marathon, and to be honest? I’m ready. I’ve been feeling tired lately, and fitting in my long runs has been harder this training cycle than usual.

I have typically liked doing my long runs on Saturdays, but FW has track meets Saturdays now. B is also training for the half marathon, and he does his long runs on Sundays, so I need to be home to watch the kids. I’ve been fitting all of them in so far on weekdays, which means a lot of EARLY mornings (meaning waking up at 3:30 a.m. this week), but also not the ideal conditions. Almost all of my runs have been done before sunrise, with 30-40 degree temps. Race day, I imagine will be sunny and a lot warmer, and I’m in no way prepared for that!

That’s a long way of saying, I’m looking forward to taking a few days off and not waking up before 4 a.m. Here’s to hoping for an uneventful, injury-free rest of training!

Technically Springtime

While it is technically spring, this week’s weather was once again wonky. Most of my runs are in the morning, and they were in the 30s or even upper 20s one day! But Sunday was nearly 80 degrees. Oh well, just another week in half marathon training for a spring race right? (I can’t believe the Cleveland half marathon is less than a month away!!) Here’s what this week’s training looked like:

One Month Until Race Day

We’re ONE MONTH until Cleveland half marathon race day! Ahh! The weeks are going by so fast, and it hardly feels like we’re less than 30 days away from the race weekend.

That is probably partially because earlier this week it felt – and looked – like winter. Sunday and Monday I ran outside in 30 degree temps. Tuesday I woke up to rain/ice overnight that had turned into snow so I hit up the treadmill. It hardly feels like it should be almost May and halfway through spring!

Double Digits

And just like that, I’m back at double digits this week! I can’t remember the last time I ran 10 miles at once, but it’s been some time, and it feels good to be back. With a little over a month until Cleveland half marathon trace day, I’m just hoping to keep it up, and stay healthy and uninjured. Is that so hard? (Don’t answer that, it is!)

This week threw some wrenches into plans, but also included some positives. GM was exposed to COVID at daycare, and had to stay home while the class was closed for the week (he tested negative thankfully). On a positive note, FW was on spring break, which meant I could sleep a little later because there was no early school bus to catch. Even just sleeping in 40 more minutes has made such a difference. It gives me hope for summertime!

Here’s what the week looked like – all outdoor runs!

Cleveland Half Marathon Training + Giveaway

Finally – a good week of half marathon training! After a few off weeks (being sick, etc.) I finally got in a few short runs and my long run, making this week’s Cleveland half marathon training a relative success. Which is good, because we’re just a little over a month from race day!

Here’s what the week entailed:
