Happy Birthday TO ME! My birthday was this week, so I’m taking this moment to celebrate me on the blog 🙂
I was able to celebrate with the family last weekend – we went out to dinner, had a mini-staycation in a hotel, I got a manicure, and I got lunch with a friend. I also was able to get in a snowy birthday run! Would I have rather it been 50 degrees and sunny during my run? (That’s a rhetorical question – you should know the answer by now) But it was snowy and somewhat pretty/not slippery yet (it was FRESH snow), so it really wasn’t that bad. And, it’s exactly how I would want to start my birthday!
Here’s what this week looked like:
Sunday: 4 treadmill miles, some free weights and pool time! — We had a family staycation downtown at a hotel with a pool, so I got in some hotel gym time, followed by hotel pool time with the family. While we were there it started snowing heavy, so I was glad to be inside, though bummed we couldn’t take a walk. It was serious snow, and I don’t think the kids would’ve lasted more than a few minutes without getting stuck/frustrated/etc.
So nice to have a nearly empty gym!
Monday: 5 outdoor birthday miles and ab workout — It had snowed most of Sunday, so the snow was still fresh Monday morning with some flurries still coming down. I hadn’t run outside in nearly a week and was dying to get outside for some fresh air. I bundled up, got on my Yaktrax and enjoyed my birthday run!
Tuesday: 4.16 outdoor miles and ab workout — It was another snowy morning, so I put on my Yaktrax again. Some parts of the run were perfect, other parts were a little slippery. At one point, I felt my foot get caught on something (I thought) and almost did a faceplant on the ground. Somehow I caught myself and kept running. I decided to stop for a second to inspect my shoe/Yaktrax to make sure they weren’t broken, and that’s when I noticed one was missing! My Yaktrax got caught and it fell off my shoe! If anyone has a pair of Yaktrax, they know how hard it is to put on and I was about 1.5 miles away from home. So I paused the run, walked around and found the missing Yaktrax, and somehow managed to shimmy it back on my shoe, tighten the strap, and ran home.
Wednesday: 4.54 miles and ab workout — I got in a few miles outside in my Yaktrax, but then it started snowing so I ran back in to do my last little bit. We got in a few more inches, ugh!
Thursday: 5.5 treadmill miles and 2 ab workouts — Once again, I split the workout – 4 mi in the morning and 1.5 mi and abs during lunch.
Friday: 4 treadmill miles and ab workout – I woke up to snow again. It had rained then turned into ice and then snowed. I decided to stay inside again, but was tired. I mostly walked, half asleep, before finally waking up to run a few miles before getting ready for the day.
Saturday: 2.8 treadmill miles and 1.5 mi walk. We had another morning/afternoon of kid activities, so I was just grateful to get in a workout before it started. After the kids were all down for naps, I got in a short walk by myself, which was great. Fresh air always perks me up.
Total mileage: 30 mi
Questions for you:
- If you wear Yaktrax or something similar, have they ever fallen off while you were running?
- Do you have a winter birthday?
l am linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
Happy Birthday. And congrats on another big mileage week. At least it’s bug to me. Lol.
Nice to get away a bit for you birthday! Yes, I have had my Yaktrax fall off and I thought it was me bc I don’t get to use mine that often. Way to get in all those miles this week! Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday! Starting your birthday with a run is always a good thing. Glad you were able to get away for a bit and celebrate. My birthday is March 21st and when I lived up north, I always loved how my birthday was the beginning of spring.
Happy Birthday (a few days late)! Great mileage…you definitely get a lot more use out of your treadmill than I could ever hope for (especially now that she’s died, LOL).
Happy belated birthday! It sounds like a fun one — as does the family hotel stay. I would have loved that as a kid, and it looks like your kids enjoyed themselves in the pool!
My bday is in mid-November, so it’s culturally but not meteorologically in winter. 😉
That is mysterious how the YakTrax escaped you!! I have pretty much given up on mine. If it’s not clear enough for me to run on pavement I just don’t want to risk falling down. Happy birthday! Sounds like a great family getaway.
Happy belated birthday! Sounds like you had a fun little getaway.
Oh wow, I can’t imagine a Yaktrax coming off on its own, especially considering how hard it is to get them on. I’m glad you found the missing one, though.
Right?! They usually take me a few minutes to put on. I somehow was able to get it back on my shoe with ONE hand while standing in the snowy street and make it home. I thought I was going to have to sit down and get wet/gross to get it back.
Happy belated birthday! A getaway with the family sounds like the perfect was to celebrate to me!
Last winter, one of my YakTrax broke on the trails, and lo and behold, as I was running with only one Yak, I spotted a lone one hanging from a tree branch! I thought it was meant to be, so I popped in on, and off I ran!
Thank you! That is SO funny about the YakTrax – not it breaking but finding a new one. Definitely meant to be!
Oh happy birthday to you! What a fun staycation and celebration! I don’t have YakTrax (go figure) but that would be scary to trip or get them hooked on something.
Happy birthday! Sounds like a lovely week! Glad you could celebrate with the people and activities you love 🙂
Funny about the yaktrak! Glad all is well.
Happy belated birthday, Melissa! What a nice way to celebrate it, with a gym and pool and a birthday run too. I also have a winter birthday, mine is in two weeks. Not sure how we’ll celebrate it! Probably just a dinner out or similar.
Have a good birthday!!!
